I got my Emperor Palpatine with the mail in promotion that Kenner did. I remember as a kid feeling really perturbed when he came out in stores. I felt like my slowly collecting points and waiting 6-8 weeks for delivery meant nothing.
@alphaprobe204 жыл бұрын
I agree- I think that’s why he sat around in stores for so long. As a kid, I missed the ESB Boba Fett mail in promotion, but I had older friends who somehow kept the card backs. That was perfect timing for me, Rotj and enough proofs of purchases to get an Emperor in the mail. At one point, I had two Emperor figures, but neither was actually purchased at a store. Enough kids had them already to waste the shopping opportunity on that one!

EDF Central- I was totally in the same boat! Toys on Christmas or birthday. I was lucky because I had an older friend who was starting to grow out of the whole SW thing. He just happened to have a few card backs from ESB that he gave to me. I combined them with a few from my birthday haul to mail away. The irony is we just tossed the card backs! They weren’t in great shape, but from what I’ve seen on the collectors market, they would be worth something to somebody today....

@kibagami744 жыл бұрын
As a kid, I loved that toy line (and movie), I had all of it but there wasn't that much to get. The Kraken was awesome, like almost all my old great toys, I either threw it away or gave it away....sigh... of course Kraken and Godzilla had some fights. Very much agree about Medusa, I thought she was the coolest monster and scene in the movie but no toy. The Scorpions and the 2 headed wolf beast would have been cool too. And Charon made a god stand in for the Emperor when I was in a Star Wars mood.
@hamletstragedy89884 жыл бұрын
I had the Shogun Warriors Godzilla and had plans for a fight between him and the Kraken. I imagine they didn’t make Medusa for financial censorship reasons. To me Medusa was an epic monster; sadly, the average toy designer and parent probably only noticed her physical appearance (boobs out) and final fate in the film and probably opted to leave her out. I’ve seen customizers online “add” to the line by making characters in the same style as the originals!

Great video! I was born in 1980. I follow your channel because I'm a fan of 70's toys. I started to collect action figures again in the summer of 2000. The goal was to finish off my old lines. While I was doing that I discovered the brilliance of 70's figures. I never knew about Mego. My mindset was there was only G.I. Joe and then Star Wars came along. I honestly thought that kids in the 70's only had that and matchbox toys. Once I finished the lines of my youth, I dove into the 70's pool. You 70's kids would be very impressed with my collection of your era. Anyways, yes, you have hit the target with these figures. Darkseid, I last seen him in the stores in 1994. The Emperor, I want to say 1989 for me. The store down the street from me had a racks of Power Of The Force figures still in '89. Really cool video. Great job as always.

1 - Kang was in the first Secret Wars comics - barely. He betrayed Doom and Doom had Ultron whack him early on; he then casually brought him back when he stole the Beyonder's power, just to show that he could, and then sent him back to his future timeline in one motion - so yeah, he was an odd choice. 2 - The 1989 Batman novelization had a great closer for Bob: 'Good Old Bob. Good Old Dead Old Bob'. IIRC, some fans thought Joker did this so he could have his other goons dress Bob up as him so he could fake his death at the end. Bob made a semi-return in the reference-rich Lego DC games, in the Super-Villain game, wherein Joker and another baddie get chased by a mutated creature sent after them that Joker identifies with surprise as "Robert!?" and is in fact supposed to be Good Old Bob.

He's probably the Avengers' most frequently recurring antogonist...every Avengers writer has to do a Kang story at some point. Constrictor was a more baffling choice!!

@@CoriolanusQuince ok that explains it, i wasn't into most team based comics back when i read them (x-men & jla being the exceptions, & i still dropped those eventually)... that aside, i didn't mean so much about kang specifically, but just about leaving a toy on the shelf because i wasn't familiar with them & then wanting the figure years later

I had F.L.U.F.F.I. and enjoyed it thoroughly, I don't think I even saw the cartoon but his bargain price must have made him attractive to a kid. ;)

If I came across The Love Boat toyline back in the day, I totally would have bought an Isaac. He could have worked the bar at the Mos Eisley Cantina.
@BrickMantooth4 жыл бұрын
I think everyone should own an Isaac.

Brick, Marvel might have been listening ... Kang might be the next big Villian for the MCU
@BrickMantooth3 жыл бұрын
If they are listening please work with Hasbro on a Micronauts movie, with ROM Spaceknight and Bug in it. Pretty please Kevin Fiege.

In the Super Powers line, does anyone remember Robin and Wonder Woman being pretty hard to find? I couldn't find them anywhere.
@mathieu42044 жыл бұрын
Wonder Woman wasn't popular in my area and I remember that she was one of the few figures still available after Christmas. Back then, the pegs were pretty bare after the Holidays and the stores didn't restock for a while. We didn't have Boxing Day yet.

I remember my friend bought several hundred wonder woman from a toy distributor in 1991, it was all they had.

I had both. I don’t recall any of the first couple of waves being too tough to find. Although now that I think about it, I had Green Arrow but don’t think my best friend even found one. He had Firestorm, and I never ran across one for me. We were in high school, so were actually going to different stores around town to seek out figures.

Feel like Plastic Man from the Super Powers line should be on this list.

Really? I only saw him once in a Pathmark on Long Island.

Kang is lurking in the shadows waiting for that movie appearance. Then he will use his time travel technology to retrieve all of those peg warmers and case fresh figures and sell them on eBay and at Cons to fund his plans for universe domination.

Dear Sir, I wish to complain bitterly about my exclusion from this list. My frumpy lavender dress, limited articulation, and complete lack of accessories made me quite the warmer of pegs. Good day! Yours etc., the Robotech Master.
