This was one of the greatest xmas gifts I ever received in my childhood, and one of the greatest Sci Fi toys of a generation. I remember looking at the Wishbook page endlessly, and waiting for xmas morning for it, assembling all the amazing accessories, all the way to playing with it (and crashing it often!) in my back yard the following summers as its accessories and attachments slowly went AWOL. I even remember seeing it's battered, empty, doorless, thrusterless shell perched on our curbside garbage cans after my parents finally decided it had lived a full three or four years of life and needed to be retired. I also remember how disappointingly rudimentary and uncooperative the action figures were... I think the sheer space involved in the thing is the only reason I haven't reacquired one. Great video!

I had one of these. I loved playing with that thing. I was a big fan of the show, although in my area, they never aired season 1, which made for an odd situation where literally every item of merchandise I ever saw for the show featured imagery and characters from the first season. This eagle was no exception. But what I saw on my TV screen as a kid was a little different: no Victor, but lots of Tony and Maya, and you never saw the color coded left sleeves in season 2 because everyone was wearing jackets all the time. Four decades later I found another one on Ebay, complete in the original box, and yes, it's a very nice play set. I put the Mattel and Palitoy figures in it, and they look great, especially sitting at the console. I also have the three small figures from the Eagle 1, and their bottom halves are interchangeable, so you can make them sit or stand anytime you like.

Great review as always! Yes, I received this for Christmas that year and it was awesome. I did have issues with the limited articulation of the figures and the fact that only one set of the legs was molded to sit. Kids could remove the torsos and swap them with other legs (2 standing, 1 sitting). And yes, the guns were quickly lost along with the ill-fitting helmets. The white chest packs seemed to stay attached for the most part. I loved the “shuttle” option too. I did find that I lost the smaller engine nozzles over time, but the main nozzles and landing gear stuck in their slots pretty well. I only removed them when the Eagle crashed (which was often in my little scenarios). My Eagle was quickly hijacked by my Star Wars figures in 1978. Not having a Millennium Falcon meant that Han and Chewie “stole” this ship and it flew alongside Luke’s X-Wing. But time took its toll on this toy. The sad story was that my mom tossed my broken Eagle out in the early 80’s. This included some Star Wars passengers who were “resting” in the four pods of the ship (which doubled as personal quarters). Lots of great memories though and I’d buy one again for my son, should it ever get a re-release.

Well done. I had this toy as a Christmas gift. I built an "H" shaped marionette rig and attached it to my Eagle 1 with wire and rubberbands so it could fly. Probably the toy I most wanted as a true 1970s space kid. But I did not get it. And I suffered the fate of seeing my younger cousin open his at his house on Christmas morning. It was crushing to me. Probably shaped my views of economic inequality to this day. He allowed me to play with it later that morning and I went back home to my less interesting toys and that was that. A few months later I was at his house and saw it sticking out of his toy box, already missing pieces. He never really was a fan of Space 1999 and yet I played role playing adventures from the show almost daily. Such is life. It was and is a wonderful toy and I thank you so much for this loving video about it. The ship is hard to find at an affordable price on eBay so I probably will go to the grave without ever having it. Same with that McMansion and Beemer. But at least I have youtube! :-)

My brother and I got one each for Christmas. The action figures' legs detached from the torso to be switched from one figure to figure. The crane came with a measly 3 inch black string which we replaced with a much longer string. The space ship was indeed VERY durable. No matter how many times we crashed them (threw them down), they hardly sustained any severe damage. The cockpit popped off, but was easily snapped back into place. But the hinges on the passenger cabin doors did break off quite easily. All in all, excellent toy. Brings back old memories.

I think that I still have the main body of this toy in the attic somewhere. If you were 7-10 years old when this came out like I was, it was great because of the way that you could remove parts and put them back on, and for the ability to connect the front and back to create a mini shuttle, and for the bay doors that would open, and in general just for all of the thoughtful details. It was best to find some other action figures to use to play with instead of the basic ones that came with it though. This is truly one of the most magnificent toys of the 1970s!

Oh in rewatching, I think there was one element of the figures that was missed in review. It wasn't that Dr. Bergman was the "sitting figure" It was that Dr Bergman was the "default sitting figure". If I remember correctly the torso to legs used a similar quarter turn connection that the Heroes in Action line used. So the set had 1 sitting and 2 standing legs. You could swap them onto any character.

I got it for my sixth birthday in November that year. One of the greatest toys ever and it was almost indestructible. I could drop it from (child) waist height and parts would come off, bit it wouldn't break. I obtained one about three years ago and hope to do some mild restoration work to it.

The only Eagle I saw in person was when I was a young child and a friend who lived down the street was from England. He had 2 of the Dinky diecast Eagles. At that time and at that age these toys were the most amazing toys that I had ever seen.

I’m stunned that no collectible manufacturer has yet to make a tribute to this toy.

I believe that Product Enterprise produced several two foot long models of the Eagle transporter as well as some twelve inch versions.

My Favourite Christmas gift as a kid. I played with it and when Star Wars figures came out they populated it as the crew then. In the 2000s my own boy played heavily with it and I still have it today. though it's missing some parts and is beat up as rough as it's been played with spanning over forty years it is one tough toy.

I had the Eagle as a kid; loved it. I wonder these days why NASA never developed the concept for a real space craft. It certainly is feasible and realistic 🤔😀

I got this brand new as a kid, I loved it and we had moved to the Florida Keys so I couldn’t watch the show anymore due to lack of television stations. I had the die cast metal eagle too. I can’t tell you what ever happened to my eagle but I am sure it went to goodwill when my parents got tired of seeing it lying around.

When the first Star Wars figures were released and there was no Millennium Falcon for a year, this became the stand in. Han Solo fit perfectly in the cockpit (although Chewie had to sit in the back as he was way too big) and, for a time, I called it the Millennium Eagle. Great memories. I still have my Eagle (although the stun guns are nowhere to be found) and love it as much today as I did then. Ah, to go back in time with a few hundred dollars and buy a whole fleet of these amazing ships.

interestingly, the first design for the Millennium Falcon was VERY Eagle-like. Basically, take the cockpit for the Falcon and use it on the Rebel Blockade Runner instead of the sideways-barrel bridge that it had. So, in essence, you had an Eagle with a different cockpit. The similarity to Space:1999's iconic ship caused Lucas to redesign the Falcon and the original Falcon design became the Blockade Runner. Also; i did the EXACT same thing you did as a kid. Also; even after the Falcon toy was released, the Eagle was still in regular service with my Rebel forces for years.

@@allthingsnerd.4484 That's true. I remember reading that the Blockade Runner was the original Falcon design. My Rebel Alliance used the Eagle as a transport for a long time after the Falcon ship was finally released. The only characters who could fit in the Eagle's cockpit were Micronaut Time Travellers and even then their feet got stuck in the Eagle's weird cockpit design. Great memories and even better to know i wasn't the only one who did this. Cheers!!!

Excellent video. This was one of my favorite toys growing up in the ‘70’s. It survived many battles and the addition of bottle rockets as weaponry. I ended up selling it for $800 on eBay in the early nineties. Even though I made a bundle, I’d love to have it back today.

This became one of my favorite toys. I got it for Christmas one year and it was the only toy I played with all year. Then, sadly, I lost it when we moved. To this day I don't know what happened to it.
