kornettisten1 I don't like it either, Kerstin and Tom! I never get a notice whenever either of you post something on You Tube; and it's very difficult keeping up with you and others without some kind of notice - like an email that we used to get.

where do you get the arrangement? I would do anything to get it for euphonium quartet... Love it by the way. Sounds great and keep it up!

What program do you use to put yourself in the background playing multiple parts? I loved the way you did the Palladio quartet showing you in all 4 parts.
@TomsTenorHorn4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, hope you picked up my message on the previous video but if not ... ... each individual part is recorded in front of a green screen and I use a process called 'chroma key' to remove anything that is green from the image and then you drop whatever you want behind it, in my case it's just the other videos of me making up the quartet ... I would think any video editing software will have this effect as standard ... I personally favour Magix Movie Edit Premium, very easy to use and loads of effects. Hope you give it a go, all the best ... Tom

Hey, cool stuff here. Im looking into picking up a tenor horn. Any advice for a brass player? (trumpet for 6 years)
@TomsTenorHorn10 жыл бұрын
Hi Sean, thanks for commenting and subscribing to my channel. Best advice would probably be to go for a second hand Besson 950 Sovereign ... they hold their price well but they are worth it in the long run ... mine has been going since 1987. Build and intonation are maybe the best and it's still the instrument of choice for most British style brass bands. Not a huge difference in mouthpiece size between trumpet and tenor horn and you should find it very free blowing in comparison. Recommend a Dennis Wick 3 or 2 mouthpiece ... or an Alliance 2A. Not sure what else I can advise but if I can help then just ask away!! Best of luck and I will look forward to hearing your first upload ... regards from Tom:-D!!

Hi, I'm from Switzerland and I play tenor horn too. I would like to know how you manage your videos quartet ...? Thank you for your answer ! Have a nice day !
@TomsTenorHorn9 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie and thanks for listening ... The audio tracks are recorded individually with an overhead mic and synchronised with a metronome played through an earpiece. Adobe Audition CS5.5 is used for panning each part and finally mixed to a stereo track ... The video parts are recorded in front of a 'green screen' and edited together with Magix Movie Edit Pro 2014 ... I hope this helps and best wishes from Tom:-D!!

I need your help! I'm on school break at the moment and i brought my instruments home to practise. I keep my tenor horn by the back door (which is draughty) and we've just had snow. I picked up my instrument to practise just now and the sound isn't clear and the pitching isn't right. It souds like when you shove a scarf into the bell to play it, but nothing is down there because it's been in my case! I don't if the cold weather has affected it, but i need your help fast, as i am also doing my grade 6 exam soon and need a reply fast!!
@TomsTenorHorn7 жыл бұрын
Hi there ... you can get a muffled sound if the valve is stuck partially down ... check to see if the valves are moving freely ... warm the instrument up and maybe oil your valves and let me know how you get on.
@hol14267 жыл бұрын
Mags496 hi i decided to fully clean my instrument in the bath and now it is not blowing at all. Do know why that is?
@TomsTenorHorn7 жыл бұрын
Hi again ... it sounds like you have one or more valves not lined up with the slot in the valve casing ... someone playing a joke on you ... has anyone swopped the valves around ???
@hol14267 жыл бұрын
Mags496 no...what i don't understand is that it's not been touched and suddenly when i pick it up to play it it isn't working properly...it was fine before?

Sorry, without seeing or hearing it I don't think I could give you a good diagnosis ... maybe a local music shop or a school friend could help?

Hey can you play ténor horn in bass clef
@TomsTenorHorn10 жыл бұрын
Hi Shaylin ... not sure if I understand the question. The instrument wouldn't really have a usable range to play the notes generally classified as bass clef (normally notes sounding from around middle C on the piano downwards) Brass Band sheet music is mainly written in treble clef, even the tubas ... with the exception being the bass trombone. I hope this helps ... best wishes from Tom:-D!!
@thatguywithalimp28810 жыл бұрын
I mean like if you were to transpose it could you still read it in bass clef I'm a trombonist and reading in another clef is a little uncomfortable
@thatguywithalimp28810 жыл бұрын
Not to mention another key
@TomsTenorHorn10 жыл бұрын
Hi Shaylin ... I get the question now! I first heard this played by David Childs as a Euphonium quartet: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYu4ZGZrgp6dZ9E and it should also sound good on Trombones ... can't see why transposing to read in bass clef would be any problem.
@anonym0usplatypus10 жыл бұрын
shaylin young Well if you ever learn tenor clef (an essential requirement for trombonist playing in a full orchestra setting) then it is easy to learn treble just add 2 flats to the key signature.
@aidanchristensen15814 жыл бұрын
Amazing performance! Though I know you are confined by the limits of the range of the instrument, I just wish the last cord had a nice Bassy root tone. Its just kind of..... unsatisfying.
@TomsTenorHorn4 жыл бұрын
Hi Aidan and thanks for listening ... there's a really good Euphonium version by David Childs on KZbin, worth a listen to if you're interested.

You are booked. All 4 Players You call this Tenorhorn. But it's not a German one. I call it Alto Horn. You are at ABRSM Grade 9 Player sure.
@TomsTenorHorn10 жыл бұрын
Hi wernertrptube and I appreciate the compliments:-D!! You should probably just book the 1st and 2nd horn... the other two are not as talented and certainly not as attractive:-D!! Yes, you are correct, it is an Alto Horn in most countries and I can't think of a good reason why we call it a Tenor in the UK. Thanks for listening and best wishes from Tom:-D!!
