I met this gorgeous cat last month. They were extremely friendly and talkative, very relaxed and curious about me. What amused me was that they ignored the school group entirely and seemed to be complaining about them afterward. But I could hear [him?] purring and he rubbed against the fence every time I talked to him. Very confident, relaxed behavior.

I worked on taming a pair of half grown feral kittens that turned up in my area. If they are not socialized with humans before they 6 weeks old they don't trust people as much. I finally got them to trust me, but handling them is different than with a socialized cat. I must never make quick movements or it will scare them, and I always show my intention to pet them, which gives them the option of moving away if they aren't in the mood for it. Even then, sometimes they will have the same look in their eyes as these Pallas cats. Like "Can I trust you?". A very intense look like they are trying to figure out your motives. I lay down for a nap and was pleasantly surprised when both kittens jumped up on the bed to lay down near me to take a nap too.

I hope the zoo introduces some of their natural live prey into the enclosure now and then. These cats really look like they need to do some stalking-hunting; they’re listening around for small animal sounds. Since they hunt at night, zoo visitors wouldn’t see the carnage.

DagiBart - cyka nuggets most modern zoos don’t grab animals out of the wild. There are more tigers being held illegally as pets in the state i Texas alone than there are wild tigers left in the world. Where do you think those tigers can go after they are rescued? They can’t be released to the wild if they were hand raised. It’s either a zoo or being euthanized. They deserve to live at least.

Another equally intriguing animal from the same region as the Pallas.....is the Tibetan FOX. It has strange slitty eyes which might be to do with the thin atmosphere at higher elevations. You could suggest this also applies to human beings living there??. Another animal (antelope family) has a bulging snout which is said to help pre-heat the freezing cold air before inhalation???.

Alex ThisIsNotRave to clear up any confusion, these cats weren’t from the wild. Most likely they were captive bred animals as they don’t capture animals from the wild anymore these days
@alexthisisnotrave45954 жыл бұрын
@@zooemperor3954 So the best they can do is to try to reintroduce them to their natural habitat instead of keeping them captive.
@zooemperor39544 жыл бұрын
Alex ThisIsNotRave that would be nice and I am all for reintroducing them into the wild if it were that easy. If not properly trained, the animals could do worst since there’s nobody to help them out and they have to catch their own food, find adequate shelter and avoid predators like wolves, Golden eagles and snow leopards. The mountains of Asia are an unforgiving place. Plus, this is a breeding program for the animals and I have seen the cats myself and they’re pretty well cared for. I know they as a species would be happier in the wild, these particular individual animals may not even know what the wild is. Plus, the indoor exhibit was smaller than the outdoor enclosure as well
@alexthisisnotrave45954 жыл бұрын
@@zooemperor3954 But do we know if they had tried to teach them how to survive by themselves? Im sure those animals can keep some of their predator instincts, I think you could work from that, and periodically reintroduce them to the wild.
