Thank you for watching! Notice the 4x4s in the middle of the barn...... that and I used some scrap 2x4s to stake the top pallets in with top floor joists. Primarily the 4x4s are the anchors. It is perfect for the goats and sheep.... and they love it. Also, since attaching the gate, it is super easy to feed them and close them in whenever needed.

This video is such a great idea. 😀 I did have trouble hearing you over the very loud music at the beginning of the video(edited to add that I like the music - it's very nice and upbeat, but my ears are a bit sensitive). I was wondering if you might have a way of turning that down a little so we can actually hear what you are saying clearly? Thank you very much. 😀 Wow! The pallet barn turned out brilliantly! The goats seem so happy with their new home. 😀

Thank you very much. Unfortunately, I can't adjust the volume at this point unless there is a trick that I do not know..... however, if the music was playing, then I probably wasn't saying anything of great importance. But I do hear what many have said and will ensure this is not a continuing problem with my videos.

The loft doesnt look like it transfers the load to the ground. Meaning it looks like the loft is dependent on the beam that runs front to back which are attached to the 4x4s with screws. Maybe add some support under everywhere that is suspended by the screws. Looks great though!

Good evening sir! Really enjoyed the video. I was wondering about the longevity of the pallets being on the ground like that. Will they last with them not being treated?
@homesteadmississippi710Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! First, most of them are heat treated. However, they are very protected by the aluminum roofing we put on the sides. It stays bone dry inside. I think they will last for quite a while.

great job! question on 2x4s you used on the roof, is it better to put the 2x4s on their side vs face down for strength?
@homesteadmississippi7102 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and great question! For strength it is definitely stronger on the sides and if this were a house, that's how they would be..... but for a simple barn build such as this, face down is strong enough. In fact, wouldn't use 2x4s on a house, would use 2x6 or 8s. But great question and thank you!
@sic-n-tiredtired42732 ай бұрын
Came out sweet, I love pallet builds i have a green house and a shed built ou of them. but why did you have the 2x4 Rafters laying flat ? Never seen that before.
@homesteadmississippi7102 ай бұрын
This was done on another farm that I work at and some of the other structures were built that way so I decided to stay with the status quo. Plus it was less cuts for me to make. And thank you for watching!
@sic-n-tiredtired42732 ай бұрын
@homesteadmississippi710 that's definitely a much quicker and easier way to do it i was just wondering about the strength, but dang if that holds up I'll be doing mine that way from now on thanks again for the video.
@homesteadmississippi7102 ай бұрын
@sic-n-tiredtired4273 they'll hold up..... I walked on the tin for other work. Tieing them in with the laterals gave them extra strength. I wouldn't do that for a house and OSB on top of them.... but just for thin sheets of metal roofing for a little barn.... DONE!

It is nice work; I am just curious what will hold the lean to roofs up as the boards were not installed in a structural way. Installing them vertically like floor joist is what gives the support. Even without a heavy load the boards will warp over time causing the roof to sag. I'd hate to see a beautiful structure like this to have failure. I have been wanting to see something like this done as I have thought about it myself. However, I have much larger animals to house so I have been in debate on what to do for my situation.

Possibly could put a door on top for a bale of hay to go through to the ground. Just would slide bale of hay,open door and push hay bale out. Could put a mound of sand on the ground where hay bale comes out to cushion it when it drops to the ground. If you see at a garage sale a small exercise trampoline. Get it and position it where hay bale drops, bounce right off.😉

It is just so expensive to build anything now. This is a great idea. I would like to get a milking cow, I would love to have one. I don't know if I would like the milking part though. We would have to build a barn for it. A horse would be nice too. My youngest sister was born with spinal bifida and she passed away at 10. I was 5 when she was born. It is difficult to lose a sibling and terrifying too.
