Pretty wild that the 7 Eleven has been there for over 50 years.

That steep hill next to the water tank was called, "Suicide Hill." Cars had to back down backwards because they couldn't climb it sometimes! early 70's when I wash 5-7 years old? WOW : )

I rode my huffy down suicide hill and lived! My guess is that this is 1970-'72?

At one time, the hill was much steeper than in this video. I believe it was widened and smoothed over sometime around 1966. You probably remember it when it was really steep by your comment.

I love seeing the water in Pond 20... It was so pretty at night with lights reflecting off the water. So much more appealing than the dustbowl we have now.

Yes! Of course! In 1965 we lived on Georgia St., in Imperial Beach. Every weekend I was off to the roller rink! I loved skating!

Does anyone remember when the entrance to the 5 Freeway (101 it was called then) from Palm Ave. (now Imperial Beach Blvd.) went underneath the freeway bridge when going north?

I'm in my early 20s and I thought this was a very interesting video to watch. Palm Avenue now, where I live around, is very populated with restaurants and colorful scenery and sadly homeless. It looked like a wasteland back then although I could see from another older person's perspective how it being empty and plain is just simply better. Always cool to see and learn something new about the history of certain areas.

In 1964, the hill on Palm Ave., at 1.02 was much steeper and very narrow than what it appears in this video. I believe the city smoothed in down and widened it sometime in the late 1960s, because as the population grew, people were probably afraid to drive up it. The sight would knot your stomach. It literally looked like the hill went straight upward, and like you'd tip over backwards if you dared go up! The fear of another car blindly coming from the opposite direction intensified the fear. I was about 8 or 9 then, when my uncle had a pick up truck, and he'd let us kids ride in the back, then purposely drive up that hill to scare us all! He gunned it of course because he wanted to make sure we all got a thrill, and we did! Miss those days. Good times!

What year ?

This collection consists of film created by the Transportation and Storm Water Department from January to October 1970. Some are from a later date. Described as a Photolog by the department, each reel of 35mm color film was taken by a camera attached to a car driving down the street or highway, producing street level views. The individual reels were converted to a digital version by the City Clerk’s Archives. Users may freeze and print the images.

@@sandiegocityclerk9598 this has to be later than 1970...probably more like mid-70's. I grew up on Palm Avenue...on that little side/frontage road on the north side of the main roadway. When we moved into our brand new home in December of 1969, that median wasn't built yet. The main Palm Avenue roadway was only two lanes...and there was nothing but dirt between the roadway and our side/frontage road. All of the neighbors, when digging up our front and backyards before planting grass/lawns, would wheelbarrow the gathered rocks out to that dirt strip. I don't think the main roadway was widened until 1972 or 1973...when I was in junior high school.

@@rayseva1278 Not mid 70's it was earlier. My dad owned a business on Palm in 72-75. I don't see it.
