I miss my city so much. Every time I go back, I get so sad because its so overpopulated with people and cars. Love this video. I wish they had Central Ave. Thank you for a little time travel. Also I do miss going to the Kmart and mom would buy us subs at the little deli.

Hudson Gas station was .34c per gal so this was around 72 or 73 I guess. When I started driving at 16 in 74 gas was 45c at Thrifty. The good ole Hillcrest Sears. Trevalyn Oldsmobile on Park & University was popular. Burnett's Furniture. Security Pacific Bank. Consuelos Mexican Restaurant on Third. Ugh. I miss our good San Diego. Better. Better people.

Seen the old Kmart 54 and University,but my best memory that means a lot to me is seeing the gone but never forgetting Palisades gardens roller skating rink on Utah and University love roller skating wish I could go back in time 😢😂

@@sandiegocityclerk9598 This footage is fantastic. I was born in 1974 and going back to see what the roads I spent a lifetime riding down looked like back then sure brings back a lot of memories. The street I grew up on isn't in the archive, but all the streets surrounding it are.

I lived on University Ave in the 60s and I'm so glad you have this video. I actually saw my home. It was fun watching this but sad the old places are now torn down. Including old homes around my area. It was so peaceful back then. I miss it so much.

I told my parents to buy real estate over and over starting in about 1974. What did i Know. I was just 8 that year lol, born and raised in San Diego living the best life with all the other middle class(well lower middle lol) Navy/IBM kids and families. Safe public schools and neighborhoods. I miss home, but I just shake my head at what it has become. Still praying for a world series win for the Padres before I die. I dont care how nice Petco is, Ill take San Diego Stadium and Winfields Pavillion or good Plaza level seats any day of the week.

I just love seeing what the traffic signals looked like back then. They were so simple. It's pretty cool that some of them are still here like the signals at University Ave and Richmond St.

Some highlights that I remember are the original Roberto's and Synthetic Trips head shop. I remember smelling the bread as you went by Balboa Bakery. Also, Winchell's doughnuts, Jetco discount store, and Mandolin Wind restaurant.

Spent a lot of time in the University area from 1981-1988 when I lived on 30th. Lots of ample shopping, good walking and bicycling everywhere!

Another great momery is going to that Kmart with my uncle and taking the no7 bus to downtown that 7 bus still runs through University Ave to downtown to this day!

2:14 Guaranty Chevrolet Service (the car sales building was up on El Cajon Blvd) I was working there at this time , during the first gas crisis, new cars had only 5 gallons of gas , the pump had no gas for demos or even managers cars

From 1:35 to2:55 is now City Heights which is one of the worst parts of the city.

Not really. Do you live here? There are now offices, new strip malls, shopping centers at University and Fairmount. New apt complexes. You obviously still think it's 1982.

I’ve lived in City Heights back when I was in my twenties. It was at least an affordable place back then despite being a sh*th0le. Now it’s an expensive sh*th0le.

@@patr70 I will stand by what I said. I moved here 1982 and I avoided this area. Now, it's filled with with new construction and businesses and is very, very different. Perhaps you have never been to the area since 1970, I don't know.
