Palm muting is so vital to dynamics! Great video! I remember my first teacher taught me palm muting because I only had one volume when I was a teenager...wicked loud. He taught me to palm mute to quiet me down lol

Thanks for that tutorial. To be honest though, I have a really hard time hitting all the strings on a palm muted upstroke. Is that even the case? Do you even play the two highest strings when muting the full chord for that percussive sound? It feels like doing the "full" upstroke (all 6 strings) after after muted downstroke with my hand staying in the same position is really awkward and makes the chord sound strange, especially the two highest strings. I tried to figure out whether it's necessary to play the highest strings on an upstroke but your playing was way too fast for that... ;) I can get the muted sound on the other 4 strings on down- and upstroke, but this one is really getting me. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Have a good one and keep up the good work!

@@aodancoynemusic Oh it helps for sure, I was really desperate since I thought my wrist would have a certain flexibility after 20 years of piano practice, yet I couldn't make it. It's really hard being patient about learning a completely different instrument, not gonna lie... ;) I saw that you were moving your hand down the bridge "on the fly" sometimes, so there is definitely a lot more practice involved than first meets the eye. Thanks a bunch for your answer, really appreciate it. And although DADGAD is still completely overloading my EADGBE brain I am watching dem tutorials! Keep it up! All the best, Salvaraez

Glad you think so. I'm hoping to buy myself a decent bodhran at some point. Check out John Joe Kelly playing - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYi7mnuDhZ2HfLM
