Frankly I don't see how anyone today can still be Jewish. The Jewish faith is so beautifully fulfilled in Christ. Once you see all these connections between the old covenant and the new, it's difficult to deny the faith.
@richardkeough79848 ай бұрын
I have always thought the same thing - how can this be?? The one answer I heard that makes sense to me points to the Jewish leaders or Rabbis (plural of Rabbi?). Rabbis do not wish to lose their power and privilege, which would occur if the Jews convert to Christianity (sound familiar?). So they discourage, if not forbid, the reading of the New Testament. Second, if a Jew does read the New Testament they have canned answers that offer different interpretations of OT passages and prophesies. This is not hard to do if you don’t want to see the truth. That’s the best explanation I have heard.
@bekblaku13648 ай бұрын
It’s much more nuanced and complex than this. Jewish identity is steeped in centuries of hard-fought tribulation and struggle in order to maintain their identity and not be destroyed as a people. For thousands of years, Jews managed to survive despite not having a land to call their own, whereas any other peoples would have perished long ago. Their religion is also their culture, and for them to forsake their religion would mean they are forsaking their ancestors and their identity. With respect to the more religious Jews like Orthodox Jews, they still believe that they are the chosen people of God - not an easy thing to let go of. Finally, I can say with certainty that the reason many of them remain Jewish is the failure of Christians to evangelize them with love and truth instead of just the truth, which St. 10:19 Paul says is just noise.

You say that the new passover meal of jesus is celebrated on the night of the passover of the jews. But archbp sheen said it is anticipated, it is not yet the passover night because it is yet on thursday. Will you clarify please?
@sophias59564 жыл бұрын
from my superficial knowledge of this (dw I'm catholic i do have some level of knowledge abt this, just not the level of these clergymen), the passover was such a big deal, the festivals spanned several days bc traveling to Jerusalem was a lot, so they (the jews) might as well hang out for a few days. ive always been under the impression that the new passover meal was eaten on one of the days of the celebrations, but not THE passover night
@francisaugustine7100 Жыл бұрын
I think Archbp Sheen referred to John (evangelist) who deliberately set the crucifixion day to be the Passover. Dr Pitre refers to the synoptics.

I am confused as to why Jesus was eating the Passover meal on the Thursday when surely the Jews Sacrificed the lambs for the Passover on the Friday at the time when Jesus was crucified. Also the bodies had to be removed from the crosses and buried quickly before the feast day.
@pastoralmissionaucklandcat60174 жыл бұрын
Jesus ate/ shared His Last Supper on Thursday, and conducted His sacrifice on Good Friday - Himself as the Passover sacrifice - as is in the OT when the angel of the Lord passed over Egypt the day after they ate their meal of the lamb - the Day of the Passover Day was the day after. So they ate the night before He died. Why Christ' body to be taken down and so were those of the 2 thieves before sundown as the Jewish culture is no work to be done on the Sabbath. THeir Sabbath starts at sundown on the day before Sabbath hence on Friday sundown. Hence we see further when the women went to the tomb on the resurrection day, the day after Sabbath early in the morning to apply the spice ointments on His body as they couldn't do it on Friday. One of Dr Pitre's video but he explained it better.
@SheldonDsouza1264 жыл бұрын
The answer is in the gospel... "First day of Unleavened bread". We would need to understand the feast in the context of 1st century. And the bodies were taken down as the Passover of that year also coincided with the Sabbath. They didn't want the bodies on the cross on the Sabbath. John's gospel reveals it.
@ThanksStJoseph4 жыл бұрын
This is a discrepancy that St. Jerome couldn’t explain. It wasn’t until the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls that we know why John’s Gospel has Jesus being Crucified as the Passover lambs are being sacrificed. Basically the religious establishment of the day had stopped celebrating according to the OT law following the solar calendar but had instead adopted the lunar calendar. If you trace these two calendars back you find a 3 day discrepancy. Jesus was most likely celebrated the Passover according to the solar calendar as the Essenes did.
@commscompany15024 жыл бұрын

As a child I always heard that Jesus was coming back for us. Well, this is now 2022., and I think we can safely say that NO ONE is coming back for us. I am sorry. No offence intended. Jesus (if he really existed) was a devout Jewish man who was deeply embedded in the Judaism of his own time, and if he were here today, he would not identify as a Christian. He would mostly likely think of himself as a Reform Jew. I have no doubt that Jesus and many of his contemporaries believed that their "salvation" from Rome was :"at hand" because one needed some sort of hope, some sort of belief that life under Roman could not continue for long, but their History has been taken wholly out of it own time and appended onto our own time with no true justification for doing so. No one is coming back for us. A[nother] good man was brutalised and died in the utmost agony at the hands of the ancient Romans, but he was only a man, and if anyone did today in our world what he did in the ancient world, he would be hospitalised, diagnosed as mentally ill, and given a hefty dose of thorazine. This story only really fits and "works" in their time period. It does not belong outside of its own historical time. Do I love the idea of this passionate man who wanted to see justice done and God revered? Of course I do. Do I think he was divine and born of a virgin? No, I do not. Sorry.

Revelation 22:18-19, isn't Palm Sunday adding to God's words? Galatians 1:6-10, isn't Sunday the "Dies Vernerabillis Solis." The day the Roman pagan's worship their sun-god. Christmas, the birthday of their sun-god. Easter, celebrated with candy, eggs and bunnies. The Day is called "Resurrection Day," and should be celebrating by breaking bread. All this is a different Gospel. This is falsehood and the Bible said that people who take part in this will be punished. GodBlessU!

"The Day is called "Resurrection Day," and should be celebrating by breaking bread." What do you think we do at the Mass when we celebrate the Eucharist?
@therose85214 жыл бұрын
@@stewartcollins948 Sunday is called Resurrection Day once a year, the first Sunday after Passover. Pentecost also happens once a year, 50 days after Resurrection Day. All the other Sundays of the year are simply common days. Like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Saturday is the seventh day, called Sabbath. Most "Christians" don't distinguish between the Holy and the common, Jesus rose on the first day of the week. Ezekiel 22:26. GodBlessU!

@@stewartcollins948 Do you mean when you celebrate Passover?
@stewartcollins9484 жыл бұрын
@@therose8521 You said we should celebrate the Resurrection by breaking bread. Catholics already do that with the Eucharist. Catholics already do what you are suggesting.
@therose85214 жыл бұрын
@@stewartcollins948 What does Eucharist mean? Passover means plagues and disasters passover God's people. Why did Constantine abolished the Sabbath Day in A.D. 321 and implemented Sunday service, why did they abolished the Passover in A.D. 325? Why did the Catholic Church institute Christ's birthday on the same date as their sun-god December 25? Why did the Catholic Church removed the 2nd Commandment from God's ten Commandments and split the 10th Commandment into two commands to cover up for their removal of the 2nd Commandment? Daniel 7:25. Why do they add and subtract from God's words? Revelation 22:18-19. GodBlessU!

Zechariah 4:6 by my Spirit, says the Lord ( Jehovah ) Almighty. Psalm 118:1 Give thanks to the Lord ( Jehovah ) for he is good: his love endures forever. Isaiah ( Prophet for the last days in the Great Isaiah Scroll: 45:5 I am YHWH and there is no one else, and beside Me there is no God.... John 4:24 God ( Jehovah ) is Spirit.... ( And he can rest that Spirit on any man he chooses ) John 1:32 Then John gave this testimony: I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. 1John 5:6-9 This is the one who came by water and blood - Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit ( Jehovah ) who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit, the water and the blood, and the three are in agreement. We accept man's testimony, but God's ( Jehovah's ) testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God which he has given about his Son. 1Timothy 2:5-6 For there is one God ( Jehovah ) and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men - the testimony given in its proper time! Malakah Shal Ahmath really? He is far more qualified than you think. Dr. Brant Pitre is a Distinguished Research Professor of Scripture at the Augustine Institute, Graduate School of Theology. He earned his Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Notre Dame, where he specialized in the study of the New Testament and ancient Judaism. He is the author of the best-selling books, Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist (Image, 2011), The Case for Jesus (Image, 2015), and Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary (Image, 2018). He is also author of Jesus and the Last Supper (Eerdmans, 2015), co-author with John Bergsma of A Catholic Introduction to the Bible: The Old Testament (Ignatius, 2018), and co-author with Michael P. Barber and John Kincaid of Paul, a New Covenant Jew (Eerdmans, 2019). Dr. Pitre has also produced dozens of video and audio Bible studies, in which he explores the biblical foundations of Catholic faith and theology (available at BrantPitre.com).
