The best short video about skinning palms!

l'm in The Florida Native Plant Society. What the narrator should have ALSO stated was that removing any fronds that still have any green on them is bad for the tree. Among many things it opens the tree up to disease and also makes the tree uneccessarily weak at the crown and susceptible to snapping off in high wind. I'm the landscape chairman at my 26 acre condo complex in Florida and it took me awhile to wrestle control over landscaping from people that were clueless. The landscapers KNOW what they're doing is wrong, but they just say, "we're just doing what the client asked for". For me, it should be what's best for the plant. l'd love to see these landscape companies be more ethical and tell the client they won't do anything to harm the plant. Unfortunately it's always about the mighty dollar. Should be like doctors: Do no harm! Also, if you like wildlife, best to leave the tree in as natural state as possible.

Hahaha yeah but we got bills to pay and kids to feed so fuc the palm; give me the cash and I’ll cut all the fronds off if that’s what they want.

On a washy in a warm climate this is rarely problematic. If you did it to say a crownshafted slow palm I would say it’s most likely going to cause issues.

The ANSI A300 Part 1 Pruning Standards and the International Society of Arboriculture Best Management Practices Tree Pruning are very helpful and should be part of every tree care tools. Continued education is a very important part of the arboriculture profession. Just do it.

For cutting up big leaves from mature Bismark, is it better to use chain saw or reciprocating saw? I read online that chain saws cloged up. I got to do it at my mom's house in S Fla.

What he didn't mention was that his trimmer was also cutting off living green fronds which didn't really need to be removed, but which is done just to reduce the amount of dead fronds which will accumulate till the next pruning.

mopardude1000 The green fronds break on their own prematurely at times. I have seen it happen.
@treeguygrant6 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Removing green fronds from the tree takes away nutrient producing tissue. Most service providers like myself perform the work scope that is supplied by the client. In this case, the client cares more about the "look" of the property than the photosynthesizing tissues of the palm itself. They are aware that this is more risky for the plant, but choose the aesthetic appeal over the natural.

Is there any benefit in pruning a palm tree other than aesthetics and perhaps security? Does it make the plant grow faster in any way?
@treeguygrant5 жыл бұрын
The only other benefit that we've had customers comment on is the reduction of pests like roaches and rats. Pruning does not make the plant grow faster.

Curious what tool you should use if you do not have a chainsaw and are an average home owner that doesn't want to pay for expensive tree trimmers. If anyone has a recommendation, please let me know.

A powered pole saw, either gas or battery operated would be ideal and cost around $200 or less. A regular pole saw is very labor intensive.

I called the company listed on the website and they said they don't use bucket trucks to trim them, they climb them using the stake boots. So I don't know what this video is trying to say...

How can I get one Palm Tree pruning Machine?
@Flaccadubledot4 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for this video! I have a question, maybe you can help me. There was a big storm in my town in the south of Italy recently, and I then went to a park and found lots of boots scattered around the park. They were intact I thought the wind (which was really super strong) pulled them down the trees, but watching this video I wonder if that's possible.. do you think it is? or would you have another explanation? Thanks!!

In SoCal we have migratory birds that nest in our palm trees, so please do not trim your palms between March and September. Hooded and Bullock Orioles migrate here from Mexico to build their nests and can have up to 3 clutches of babies, and as many as 12 babies a year.

The natural untrained tree is best for the palm tree and provides haven for other yard and natural life. But people want the look so they over cut em. Don't want to pick up a old leaf. So phoney.
