Greenland will vote for being more and more independant from Denmark at least. Mining is just in the very beginning in Greenland, but they hope it will pick up and make them economically independent in not too distant future. Being under the US is likely not what the majoirty would wish, they are like Scanidinavia social democrats, quite different setup from the US, but guess they won't mind having a close economical relation with the US

As a conservative American, if the majority of the people of Greenland decide they want to join us then I will have no objection to this idea, but if the majority are not in favor of this then I can't in all good consciousness support this idea and so far I'm not convinced that the majority of Greenlanders want to join us.

Iceland got quite much ice, about 10% of the area is covered by glaciers, but more green than Greenland for sure) An early explorer of Iceland did climb a mountain and looked around, did see a lot of ice, and called it Iceland. He just happened to look at a part of the country that had high concentration of ice. Regarding Greenland there are some costal areas in the south that got much green grass in the summer, and 1000 years ago there was even more green areas and less ice. Main reason for the name is the first vikings named it Greenland to attract more people coming settle there, and the name Iceland was already taken

There would be some compensation to Denmark for the public lands but the main issue for the people that live there is the transfer of sovereignty. Would Greenland's residents rather be part of the US or would they rather be part of Denmark and the EU? I think we already have some kind of military base on the territory and we could probably get Denmark to allow additional bases if that were mutually desired. We don't have to annex the territory for that. These sorts of things have happened before. We got the Virgin Islands from Denmark for $25M in 1917. All residents were allowed to stay and were eventually given US citizenship.

Unlike the United States, they are blessed with a free, high quality healthcare system, access to higher education at no cost, low crime and a peaceful society. So, why would Greenlanders want to be a part of a Trump dictatorship?? Take a look at the most recent United Nations ‘Happiness Index’ - all Nordic countries are among the top 10🇮🇸🇸🇪🇳🇴🇫🇮🇩🇰.

As it is, Greenlanders get voting rights and get to go to Denmark for free education, they get free healthcare, etc… none of which is offered in America Greenland would never be granted statehood (because they’d vote Democrat), so they’d be just “Cold Puerto Rico”… And Greenlanders aren’t stupid. Greenland already has significant autonomy within the Kingdom of Denmark. It is not simply a territory with no say in its future; the people of Greenland have political rights and the ability to shape their future through democratic means. In fact, Greenland has the right to seek independence. This is guaranteed by the Self-Government Act passed in 2009, which expanded Greenland’s autonomy and provides the legal framework for full independence should the people of Greenland decide they want it. At this point, Greenland is still part of the Kingdom of Denmark, and the government of Denmark cannot simply sell Greenland to another country. Denmark doesn't have the authority to do so because Greenland is not a commodity to be bought or sold. Greenland is a self-governing territory, and any decision about its future must come from the people of Greenland, not external parties. And that is why Denmark said NO, it is not there to be sold, but if it wants to become independent, it can do whatever it wants to. But that still doesnt mean they want to belong to the USA NOR will Denmark just sell them, so its a HARD NO FROM DENMARK. However, if Greenland were to become independent and later choose to form a political or economic union with another country, it could explore that option on its own terms. But this is a decision for the Greenlandic people to make after achieving independence from Denmark. If Greenland wanted to pursue full independence, it could hold a referendum, and the people would decide whether to remain part of Denmark or establish a fully independent country. The Danish government would respect that decision, as it has promised in the Self-Government Act. So, if Greenland chose independence, it could become a sovereign state with full control over its affairs. But right now, again, it still belong to Denmark and they will not sell it.

The Greenland subsoil contains billions and billions of a variety of valuable minerals, rare earth metals, precious metals, precious stones, coal, graphite, uranium, and deposits of copper, gold, lead, molybdenum, titanium, and zinc. Greenland has been a mining nation since the late 1700's. Sealing, whaling, fishing and hunting are another main source of income. Russia, China, and Australia are all competing for Greenland's resources. Greenland is larger than Mexico and the world's largest island. Greenland has been politically and culturally associated with Europe for about a millennium. It's Greenland's wealth of resources Trump is after. He would drill every foot of the island if he could get a hold of it. He's not worried about anything but Trump Co.

“More security and economic prosperity than Denmark” what a joke of a comment. Have you looked at American cities and towns. It has become a 3rd world country in America. It is the capitol of criminals, homeless, drug addicts, sex traffickers, trash, corruption, and corporate greed exploiting the people. On top of tha, they are being enslaved and controlled by Zi0nists and giant capitalists. America is based on liberalism and greed which pushes individualism, while being imperialistic. Who wants to be part of that? How can one expect a state like that to hold together? Americans can’t even fix their own degenerate country yet they want to steal more land from others just like Israel. Greenland belongs to Denmark or if they wish to be independent, that is up to the Greenland people, NOT Americans.

Plus, schools are safe with no mass shootings. I suppose Denmark’s government debt-to-GDP ratio, which is among the lowest in the EU, is of course much higher compared to the wealthier U.S. -A lot of security and prosperity ahead.

According to the documents published by Denmark in 1997, the U.S. Army's "Iceworm" missile network was outlined in a 1960 Army report titled "Strategic Value of the Greenland Icecap". If fully implemented, the project would cover an area of 52,000 square miles (130,000 km2), roughly three times the size of Denmark. The launch complex floors would be 28 feet (8.5 m) below the surface, with the missile launchers even deeper. Clusters of missile launch centers would be spaced 4 miles (6.4 km) apart. New tunnels were to be dug every year, so that after five years there would be thousands of firing positions, among which the several hundred missiles could be rotated. The US Army intended to deploy a shortened, two-stage version of the U.S. Air Force's Minuteman missile, a variant the Army proposed calling it Iceman

I just hope other countries have this kind of offer by the USA. Too many people want to go and live and many countries want to ally themselves. I just hope Greenland people look at the big advantage for their future. Politicians will always think of themselves and of course Denmark want to have a grip for longer years for power and control. At the end of the day, it's you as people decide what's best for you. Alaska, Hawaii and other pacific island territories of the US is doing great so I'm sure Greenland would too if they be part of US territory. I went to Hawaii, Saipan and the Marianas islands territory of the US, theyre all great! You can take NCLEX exam in Saipan if you want to apply as a nurse in the US. Most Asian does there.

We didnt sell voluntarily. this is history repeating itself. Not true about the immigration. Denmark is one of the most restrictive countries in Europe when it comes to immigrations.

@@lottek3271 well they tried to sell it for Jutland in the 2nd Schleswig war... And yes it was sell or have it taken by the Germans in ww1. I have alot of respect for the Danes but they cannot protect this territory alone against serious enemies... Who knows what will happen and yes Denmark isn't the worst offender with out of control migration within Europe.

@@Runninlejit Correct, but US already has a base on Greenland and they are supposedly allowed to expand their military presence without asking Denmark, per agreement made in 1951. So why does US want Greenland? For the minerals most likely. That is imperialism. However, the people of Greenland need to make the decision to become independent of Denmark. I am not so sure they want to, even if they are promised a bunch of money. But who knows.

The Danish government took Greenlander children under the guise of "educating" them, then adopted them out to Danish familes, and were never returned. Only recently did the Danes apologize. But the government limits the indigenous people's access to their own resources while taking the lion's share. I want Greenland to vote to join the US. Maybe they could become a US protectorate which would allow them to maintain 💯 % sovereignty which is the most important thing.

@in5anity975 oh I refuse to deny our past atrocities. But the Danes took Greenlandic children within the last century and they CONTINUE to exploit their land. And for the record, I'm for allowing first and foremost, GREENLAND TO DECIDE THEIR OWN FUTURE, even if it does not include the US.

Perhaps Greenland could be a territory of the US in some capacity, so that it keeps its self determination, while receiving the protection of the US. Greenland has too small a population to defend itself, it's already subsidised by Denmark.
