He was well-known in his times, such as Salieri. It is shame that people don't know Tomášek and know Salieri for fictional rivality with Mozart. These men deserve more fame for their awesome music...

I very much agree with your thoughts. I have recently found, by accident, a host of music by these contemporaries of Mozart and Haydn for a range of instruments including the English Horn. I do wish established Classical music stations would set aside a couple of hours each day to give this very rarely, if ever, music air time.

Václav Jan Křtitel Tomášek (17 April 1774, Skuteč, (Bohemia) - 3 April 1850, Prague) was a Czech composer, pianist and music teacher. He also played the violin and organ. His earlier compositions are in the style of classical period, but his later works are in the style of early romantic period. Tomášek was very important music teacher in Prague. His most important works are 6 piano sonatas, 2 piano concertos, choral works, quartets, small works for organ, few operas and symphonys…

Wonderfully played, with a lively, sparkling tone, quite appropriate for the constantly singing melodies. Goes for the other link with the Cto #1, too. Thank you!

You are not familiar with Czech music, MOST of them composed in perfect mozartian style!
