Vader is an awesome badass, but he brings too much personal emotion to every fight. Thrawn brings little to no personal baggage with him to the War Room. Anakin failed as a Jedi because, feelings. Vader failed as a Sith because, feelings. Had Vader never fell in love with Padme he or Anakin could have been a supreme battle strategist. He was great at strategy anyway, but without the emotional baggage, unstoppable.

His emotional baggage is what made him unstoppable, as it fueled his power in the force. I genuinely think that the only thing holding Vader back from becoming the most powerful being in the entire Star Wars universe was his suit.

@@sac-_ Vader is my favorite character in all of Star Wars and my alltime fave villain, but he was not unstoppable. His son Luke became all but unstoppable when he defeated his father. Vader wanted to turn Luke, not kill him so he went easy in RotJ, due to his love for his son aka emotional baggage. Without that baggage Vader would have ended it pretty quick. Due to Luke's love for his father, emotional baggage, he wouldn't kill Vader. Neither were truly unstoppable. Based on skill and knowledge of the force, maybe, but their weakness for love and attachments put a significant hole in their defense. Against anyone but family or the Emperor, Vader was unstoppable. And you're right abt the suit, Palpatine would have been no match for Vader if he'd not gone to Mustafar and lost to Obi Wan. Palpatine, Thrawn, Tarkin and most Jedi masters remained unemotional in battle, thus could remain focused on the here and now and think strategically and win.

Here's another angle on the Thrawn / Tarkin / Vader spot, maybe The Emperor was pointing out he would have normally left the Rebels to either Thrawn or Tarkin, so that Vader could focus on Sideous's ultimate goal in finding Luke was to turn him to the dark side, but secretly he wanted to replace Vader with someone he could mold into what he hoped for Vader before his incident on Mustafar.

Everybody is talking about Trawn, but i think that Tarkin is soooo underrated. Guy is survival and hand to hand combat expert, great planner, leader, hunter, and a good pilot. He's kinda badass... (im not saying that he's better than Trawn tho).

the main difference between Vader, and thrawn/tarkin as military strategists, it not that Vader is inferior or superior, its just that Vader is a different kind of strategist, When it comes to warfare, Vader is very much hand's on, he is possibly the most experienced, battle hardened field Commander in the empire, and is often seen personally fighting on the front lines just look at the battle of yavin, when it was attacked, what was his reaction? to personally get into his star fighter and deal with it himself So i disagree, i don't think that Palpatine was implying thrawn/tarkin were superior to vader, rather, he simply understood that they were better suited for this kind of task, while Vader would normally be better suited for other jobs that they would not be so yeah, not better or worse, just different

I thought this information was always assumed and didn't need to be said. Of course Thrawn and Tarkin are more tactfully skilled than Vader. While Vader has a lot of experience, Tarkin has more and Thrawn is a literal battle genius. So I don't find this information all that interesting.

As skilled as they were, neither Thrawn nor Tarkin were force users and as such, not Sith material. As skilled as they were, they were tools to be used by the Sith. Ruling the galaxy was the destiny of the Sith alone; not some political body such as the old Republic or the Imperial Senate, not military strategists, and certainly not someone or something put into power by the rebellion. No... only Palpatine would rule, until the time came when Vader- the only other dark side force user in the galaxy- would replace him. IF that time ever came. Unless... another dark side force user could be created...

So now Vader’s a strategic buffoon? All SJW’s can do is deconstruct existing characters. Anakin was a General in The Clone Wars, obviously the Force is guiding him. Same goes for Vader. In TESB, Vader’s mad that they’re too close to Hoth - sounds like he had a plan. “”Zahra,”” aka, Admiral Daala. This storytelling is so lazy. She’s even on Kessel, too. Daala was at Maw Installation.
