Carnatic music system is still preserved in Tamilnadu due to Nagaswaram and Tavil (Dolu) Vidwans (non-brahmins) and Nattuvanars (Dance Masters who too are non-brahmins of combined Tanjore District) and encouraged by Brahmins. During 19th and first half of 20th century there is no discrimination between Brahmin Vidwans and Non-brahmin Vidwans. Lot of stalwarts are non-brahmins who ruled the show during this period may be upto early 70s of last century. Secondly Rasikas from non-brahmins had been considerably declined due to Dravidian Parties rules in Tamilnadu whereas Brahmin Rasikas are still likes and attends the Sastriya Sangeetham concerts so also lot of Brahmin Vidwans ruling the show now except very few non-brahmin Vidwans. Brahmin Rasikas are encouraging their wards to attend Carnatic music concerts whereas it is vice versa among NBs. Still eminent Nagaswaram and Tavil Vidwans are continuing their heritage in Tamilnadu. These apply to Bharathanatyam too. Now Bharathanatyam and Carnatic music are encouraged by large number of Brahmins and negligible NBs.
