Also a bit difficult to replicate when trying to learn by doing in order to see the game's reaction to certain actions and alignments while pondering original ideas. Im still on my first slow-play-through and damn there are a bunch of quirks. Its pre-release though, and it doesnt help that im quite a bit anal and ocd. It made Cities Skylines 2 and Frostpunk hell on me on the "building a functional, surviving community" side. Maybe NMS made me lazy and/or rusty. 😆 That said, that initial placement is crucial and I learned a lot and love the vid. Maybe ill be rebuilding/restructuring a lot less during base relocations now. 🤘

Getting that first foundation piece positioned just right is turning into a nightmare for me. Devs need to make it so we can adjust the initial placement of a foundation piece after its placed so we can get it adjusted how we want. The camera perspective we have is just bad for adjusting heights.

It gets really tricky when matching up foundations on two levels so that the part on the hill is aligned correctly with ceiling pieces from the lower foundation. Takes quite a bit of trial-and-error, but it allows you to put a level floor across the whole area while keeping all of the ore nodes available.

@@IcyTorment Yeah, I found out after finally completing the building that the first coal node the entire base is lined up on was too close in my game, so it stopped spawning. I think this video could benefit from showing how Dauntus placed that first foundation, not just where it was placed.

Devs need to make it so you hold a button and the object locks into the world grid.

For the first foundation you should show the one which is next to the charcoal boulder at 4:28. To have accuracy I was at your initial foundation position and face the boulder, then i approch it with stone foundation and when it turn red because of the boulder a just step back a bit and place the foundation, like that I am more accurate overall.

A few things i may add. To prevent a pal from getting stuck under stairs, be sure you enclose bouth sides with walls (also 3 stairs size is better for pathing). If there is a hole on stairs and item on ground on other side, pal will try to pick it up and get stuck. Second thing. When you build on big hills you can raise the foundation as high as possible and then put stairs on side. After this you make a foundation under those stairs (takes a few trys to get it perfect) as close as game allows you to height and your pals will still be able to use those stairs as they were normal. 3... to remove anoying trees i recomend just making a bed on that spot. (if you cant make foundation due to ore being to close) 4. So since your jormuntige ignus like to climb the trees so much (the one for farming), i found a solution yesterday: Make a room 2x2 and place down farming spot at edge. Enclose this edge with walls 3 in height. Now for spot where pals farm, make 2 walls high and put roof on top. Now climb this roof and make angeled roof to the 3 wall to enclose the trees. This will prevent your dumb ai from finding a way to climb it.

Place it down and then fly up before you build it! You can always build something tiny like a floor torch next to the box to check your spacing and see where you built previously

I just wish they would give us half walls or some sort of cap like Merlons. I do NOT like using the janky triangles, while they sort of work-not really. The new pillars they gave us, however, finish off corners very nicely. You might try it.

I built mine here but opted to lay foundation around the entire perimeter, went 2 walls up and built a floor over the entire base area then put in stairs to access the inside and built my buildings on top.

It seems to me like this vid was made before they added the change building mode option to the right side of the screen with the rest of the building controls. I just pressed the button associated with that option and the stairs connected to the edge of the foundation perfectly fine. Hope this helps anyone who is struggling.

How did you get the palbox onto the stone part? Also how did you setup the rest round the base? I can't setup the new base until I have some mining done but I keep going outside the circle (I did turn off the detoriation) but I still want my pals to mine which they won't do if it's outside.

It took a lot of trial and error. Maybe 4-5 placements. One you get the first foundation stone down through you are golden :) it’s all about the angle

I made a base here from what I saw in your first video as inspiration. That said since Ore mines are a thing now I didn't bother protecting the ore nodes just the coal. I made the castle not quite balanced the left side with the stairs goes out abit more I made it a 4 wide staircase with the leftmost 2 ending one level lower and built my 'home' as an middle floor of the under the stairs area and i made a 'workshop' in the area you put a door to under the stairs with all the stuff that pals don't really use repair/condenser/incubator/power statue. still fiddling to try to make the roof area look like I want.

I’m not certain about the roof. Mine respawns, but you could be right! I have seen NPCs not respawn before because of something built over them. You might be on to something here. Thanks for watching!

Anyone had issues with the coal nodes not respawning? I believe it’s these two near the structure. 4:32 and 5:49 Are they TOO close and are preventing the nodes from respawning? Like mentioned about removing the staircase 😢

I'm having difficulty with the 1st foundation . I'm trying to line up exactly where you are on that hill and if I line it up to meet with the 1st coal node than when I build the back wall I can only go 4 or 5 blocks without It saying not touching ground. Idk how your lining up with that coal and still have room

I had the same problem, but it turned out I didn't place the first block far enough to the left. If you extend it forward you should just about line up with an ore node. Hope this helps
