Great tutorials, little thing I noticed here is in my ubuntu install that I did, using your systemd script, I had to adjust steamapps to SteamApps, because for some reason my install has it capitalized. Super small thing that kept it from working as intended. Keep up the good work sir, and thanks again!

Was your steam folder also capitalized as "Steam"? I'm doing the same workaround as you.

@@timofreee negative, not in my case, the key is when looking at that startup txt file, just look at the path to the same file on your device and make sure the capitalization is the same, like I mentioned above the only difference was /SteamApps/ for me. Hope this helps, good luck! :)

@@Gorfy00 I did match the capitalization with the directory and path. Managed to start the service but for some reason users now connect with new GUID so it cant connect old save files. So I'll be manually managing for now.

@@Gorfy00 I had the same issue on Ubuntu with SteamApps. Did you have to do any special configuration to start palworld.service? I'm getting vague errors and wondering if it's caused by Ubuntu vs Debian

I run my own server locally in my own lab. I set it up at 4 vcores (the server can´t user more anyways) and 16Gb of RAM, go with 32GB to be safe.

Hey, kind of a longshot but as you covered the Server transfer part: Me and my friends did that (from another weaker linux server) and now my friend can't connect anymore. In the ingame admin panel his uid won't show up, only 00000000. The file and connecting to the server with his account still works on the old server and it also works with everyone else, do you know what this is caused by? Can you show how to do an automated backup of the "Saved" folder at regular intervals? We initiated the new service in this video and then everyone had to make a new character for some reason. All the bases and pals are there, but no one is linked to their stuff. If we had a backup I feel like we could have resolved whatever corrupted the files.

I had this too. I think if you stop the service and try to boot the server with just the command line it should fix, I did manage to connect back to my characters, so the character files should still be there, but still not sure how to make the service work with a saved world unless I'm missing something

it would be interesting to try with a very light debian distro to see if the palworld server works, I used debian 12 but it uses too many basic resources

Not sure if it will help that much, my debian distro suck 37 Mb of RAM before starting the server! I hope the Palworld dev team will work on the server exec themselves, it looks like they eat a lot of RAM if not restarted (I have seen server burning 64 Gb of RAM lol).

i ran these 2 sudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 8211 -j ACCEPT sudo iptables -A INPUT -p udp --dport 8211 -j ACCEPT and this one: sudo apt-get install iptables-persistent still ahve no access i am using Vbox if there is something that needs to be done there my network is in NAT mode maybe i need bridge for it to work? and do my friend they use my external IP to connect to the server?

Yes. It is required top open the port on the machine which host the Palworld server.

When Palworld servers starts the only two ports that are new is UDP 8211 and UDP 27015 I do not believe that TCP is needed on inbound firewall rule.

ive tried setting up a Debian, and even a Ubuntu on AWS and following the tutorial, but even doing everything as the tutorial has showed, it always ends with me running the server process, and it ending itself after some seconds, it always appear KILLED at the end

I can´t reproduce this error on my end. Check if your server is not overloaded or if it fulfills the spec requirements.

My service file ended up pretty similar before I found this. Too bad you don't have a console from running the script so you can use a socket file and echo 'shutdown' into it for ExecStop. Instead I have a script that runs rcon (using rcon-cli which I found on GitHub) to shut it down, and then monitors if a server pid is still running (simple while loop using kill -0, pgrep, head) so systemd doesn't immediately kill it. It is what it is I guess. What's with the environment options btw? I don't see anything different after adding those.

Hey! Nice to hear! I am making a third part video in which I add a script to backup the server each time it reboots, to make sure we avoid any type of corruption of the data. And I will deploy another script to deploy the backup to another instance (in case of server upgrade or in case of save corruption). For the service file I just wanted to lock out the environment options to the correct folder, better safe than sorry. Thanks for the feedback!
