A dive into the unique cascading logic effect of Pamela's New Workout and some patching tips for it. Also partial non-boolean logic visuals through an oscilloscope.
The cascading logic effect: When a channel uses a logic function, that output will be included in any higher number channel's logic operation. This allows a cascading effect of building up logic operations all the way to Output 8. When using logic "upwards" (1‹-8) instead of cascading downward (1-›8), it will only include the individual channels internal output, and not the aggregate external output.
See my other video on Non-Boolean Logic for a deeper dive with Pamela's New Workout.

Love Pam’s! Great video. It’s easy to forget how powerful this module really is.

It really is a very versatile module. I use it in 99% of my patches, and works great to sync my modular up to ableton w/ virtually no lag (synced through keystep)

I realized the other day that I use this concept habitually now. I noticed I always start with output 8 and patch my way back to 1, so I can always stack logic with the channels before it.

i understand well enough how logic works, but i don't yet know how to use it musically, like i don't have enough of an intuition for the kinds of beats that are possible from logicing sequences together that i can imagine cool things i can logic up ... this video did help a little, thanks! i'm just starting to get a feeling for how there's not just constant grids intersecting but patterns that are already complicated and then you can layer them & stretch them & change their time relation,,, it's like seeing light through many layers of all different sizes of blinds, all moving up & down, opening & closing, expanding & contracting.... affecting one another even, have you played with feedback+logic at all yet, i can't quite stretch my mind around it yet can you :D

@@simonjefferytaylor What do you use o_C for? I got one a little bit ago but haven't found a good use for it yet. But talking about Pams got me looking at cheap PNWs and I actually just picked up a second one.

@RobotsAreRed so many possibilities and options.. but at this point ... I'm using it to create cv sequences with semi random variation to modulate inputs on the lower cv Inputs on my doepfer a155 every 8 or 16 bars. And sometimes as just4 channels of quantisation.

I have one question, maybe it's a sily one but i don't know that much about electronics in theory: I understand this is not boolean logic in the way that there are NOT two signals on the input, but we have AND, OR and XOR (not NAND NOR........) so my question is, if one of the signals is dictaminated by let's say the "on off" on a gate pattern, whats saying to the chanel you're applying logic into what is the second value!!???? I don't know if i'm explaining myself right or if maybe that's responded on the video but due to my lack of English i don't totally understand, but it's driving me crazy!!!! Anyway thanx very very much, ad thanx for making me think in these ways!! cheers!!

Great Video thanks! For that 8 step sequencer - mode, how do you offset the trigger? I´ve been trying to do the same thing for the first 4 outputs but could not get it running the way you had it for all 8 outputs...
@RobotsAreRed
@RobotsAreRed Жыл бұрын
To offset the trigger, give it 8 euclidean steps with 1 trigger. Then just set the rotation to get it to hit at the right time.
@janez3316

@@RobotsAreRed Ah ok i see, i´ll give it a try but that should be possible for the first 4 steps only as well right?
@RobotsAreRed

I’m a little fuzzy as to why you did the & for the second channel and the “or” for the third one. Did you do “or” all the way up in the later example? Thx!
@RobotsAreRed
@RobotsAreRed 2 жыл бұрын
In the later example, like the note sequencer, I used "or". At the very beginning I use the "&1" to act as a sort of VCA for channel 2. As a general rule of thumb, I use "&" to remove triggers, and use "or" when I want to mix them together. (Just make sure your Width is very short on the triggers when using "or")

it is a CV MACHINE! I think of it as a master clock, sequencer, lfo, sequenced attenuator, and cv utility (like sequence resets) all in one. It is the "brains" of my rack, for sure.

@slimelabAK 3 жыл бұрын
@@RobotsAreRed i am using it as a quantizer, sequencer, and LFO and master clock but I haven't touched any of this logic stuff. I don't rightly understand it either. Once I am finished with my current patch I am definitely going to explore the logic stuff so I can get a grasp on it. Saving this video so I can have something to reference. Thank you!
