TOMBOW IROJITEN COLORED PENCILS | First Impressions, Review, Full Swatching & Blend Test

The Irojiten pencils are my absolute favorites. I bought them early on and thought I needed to continue buying all the beautiful artist grade pencils like Luminance, Derwent Lightfast, Polychromos, Pablo and more. But the pencils I always reach for are my Irojitens! I've done all the pictures in the Romantic Country coloring book with them and they turned out so very pretty with all the soft colors, I was surprised you didn't recommend them in that book in your review. Well, I love using them in all my books. So happy to see your review of these beautiful pencils! And also, I was able to get the extra 10 new colors on Amazon recently and they are a wonderful addition to the set.

I found the 10 new colors as a set for $14.88 on Amazon (as of 11/3/22). I got the whole set 2 or so yrs ago. Two things I discovered quickly. First, these are quite hard. I needed to work on layering using these. Second, the colors are ah-mazing. The colors are very different from the run of the mill ones.

I bought them about a year ago and when they arrived I was stuck in quarantine. I love these pencils and I keep them on my top shelve. I use them when I want to colour one of my own drawings. I just love the colours. Just lovely

These pencils are so pretty and I love the unique colors in it. I'm definitely in the colored pencil collector category lol I buy and obscene amount of pencils but the good thing is I do use them all and genuinely like using them. I usually only buy higher end pencils since you can purchase them open stock and I like being able to do that, but I do have some student grade and even cheaper sets that you can't purchase open stock that I enjoy using in my coloring books. I've been eyeing this set for years now, I first heard of them sometime ago, I think when I was in high school and was too broke to buy them at the time. I think I'll start off with one of the 30 count sets (thinking the rainforest set which is the first 3 volumes since it looks fairly well-balanced to me) and trying them out on their own and also with other pencils I have, particulary the Faber-castell polychromos pencils since they're probably my all time favorite harder lead pencils. I used to hate harder lead pencils, but after I bought my pablos and my polychromos pencils I started to reconsider. These look right up my alley and I think they'd be a great edition to either set. Anyways, thanks for the swatches and blending demonstration! I agree that that caran d'ache blender is amazing, I have yet to find a set it doesn't work well with!

I've had these for years and I really like them, though I find that they are hard, I'm used to harder pencils so it doesn't bother me. I want the extra 10 that came out but they are hard to find and expensive to get to Canada. The packaging is really pretty. I haven't colored with them in a bit. I need to get them out again.

I've had these pencils for years......they're beautiful and packaged well. Unfortunately they are hard and my hand tires out with use. Haven't used them in a long while.😊

Fun Fact: Irojiten means color time in japanese. I forget how they are pronounced though.

No, time is "jikan" in Japanese. iro = color, jiten = dictionary So the pencils are in book-shaped boxes.

I’ve had my Tombow Irojiten pencils for about a year and a half now…I absolutely love them!! Not only are they beautiful, but they are very nice to color with also. I have all of the ones you reviewed plus the newer 10 colors.

Not sure if KZbin removed my previous comment but the extra 10 set is available directly from Amazon Japan without having to buy the additional colours and costs around £18.

Love this…I’ve had mine years and just re swatched them into Ruby Charms and forgot how pretty and unique they are…I have the extra 10 which are fashion based…mine came from Japan via a seller in Aus so by the time they got to the UK…they were well travelled…I love neons as well…🥰🥰

Did I tell you there’s a box of 36 extra colours? The 36 is in a flat box and the extra 10 are included in the 36. I just purchased all the sets. A treat to me. I have tested a bit, they are like the Pablos and Faber-Castells imo. I paid approx $106.00 for all of them from Amazon Japan .

There aren't very many purples, also I hear Tombow are quite expensive. But I don't really seem to like these, except the Fluoro

I have two 90 sets of these. They work well alongside the Faber Castell Polychromos, as the Tombows have a hard core as well. Great vid.
