My favorite add to tuna salad is 3 crushed up Unique brand extra dark splits pretzels per can of tuna. Also use an aggressive amount of lemon juice and a dollop of Dijon along with the mayo. Usually diced up sweet peppers and some sweet relish to balance all the bitter. Lettuce and tomatoes on top if tomatoes are in season. If not roasted peppers. Lettuce gets dressed with garlic expression salad dressing, some balsamic on the bread Marie Sharps habanero sauce is also dabbed on almost every bite. Dang, I'm hungry. 😋

Fantastic. I have a baguette I was wondering what to do with...and all the other ingredients in the pantry or dying to be used up. Saturday's menu is sorted!

If you have all the ingredients, why not just make a traditional pan bagnat? It's simpler and easier to make.

César, yes yes yes yellowfin in olive oil. Life-changing. Tuna and onion patties def first date food. Big bold flavors and kindness = second date. Totally on theme with the Seine boats, btw. 🥰

I make a Pan Bagnat for one using a Ciabatta roll. The chances are SO MUCH better that I don't end up wearing it. And I have always misspelled Pagn Bahngnat!!!! LOL

I think ciabatta works very well with pan bagnat. The oil and vinaigrette soak perfectly into the bread, which still retains its chew and doesn't fall apart.

It's salad nicoise on a baguette! Looks delicious. I'd probably use straight up tuna and keep the capers. The cakes look awesome but l would prefer them alone with the salad on the side. Nicely done!

Why would anyone make salade niçoise or pan bagnat with fish cakes, particularly when they started out with olive oil-packed yellowfin tuna? It's like grinding beef cheeks and boneless short ribs, forming them into burgers, then using them to make boeuf bourguinon. Or course, you could do it, but what purpose would it serve? I have no problem with adapting or modifiying a traditional recipe, but only if it's simpler, uses cheaper ingredients, or it improves on the original. Otherwise, what are you trying to achieve?

I would have liked to pickle the onions for sweetness which was missing with all the vinegar.
