There is a very touching story behind this song. It's about an ancient burial site (over 900) they found as they were digging to build the Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua. It is now a sacred site that they've preserved. Maybe it's why this song is extra touching.

I like to think that in the second verse when he speaks of "mai ho'oni'oni I ka nohona" that he speaks of i ka lahui Eo/Eu 'o Amelika
