I recently visited an Embera village in the same region The reason they don't hunt, is because they live in a national park where it's prohibited to hunt. Always cool to see other travelers do the same things I did and compare. The ones that we saw didn't have tattoos, and I read a lot of them live in the city and only come to mock villages to stage shows for tourists. Someone even said some sell baskets made in China and wear clothing from Polynesia. It's hard to gague how authentic these tours and villages actually are. The only truly authentic village I know of in the region is located near Quebrada Candelaria. They still walk around topless and have the tattoos, but this one is deep in the jungle and difficult and expensive to get to, though some of the cruise companies take people there. Otherwise, you need to go to the Darien or Colombia if you want to see a TRUE Embera villages. Unfortunately, when you become a tourist attraction, you lose many aspects of your traditional culture.
