I was stationed at both Ft Clayton and Ft Davis in the '80's. I couldn't wait to leave but I'm ready to go back. I have a beautiful wife who is from Panama. She was my nurse when I was in the hospital at Gorgas. I really did have a good time.

what he describes about being a entrepreneur and having a business mindset... that's the mindset I have and yet I don't feel that with all the taxes that the Canadian government puts on people that own small businesses, It is extremely hard for the small guy to survive here, yet I couldn't move there because you need to own a corporation to live and do business in Panama.

In most situations people pay taxes on income, then live and pay bills on what's left....but corporations and most other entities (LLC, trusts) have income, pay expenses, and then pay taxes on whatever is left. (If there's nothing left after expenses, there's nothing to pay taxes on - no profit.) My point? You might even find a corporation beneficial in your current nation. It doesn't have to get complicated to get benefits of incorporation. But there are also bigger deductions and more of them that corporations get to take that sole proprietorships do not. Just food for thought.

Panama 2012 law 80 give exemption from income tax until 2027 for imigrants, if I'm not mistaken.

Some things you cannot learn from books, and actually have to submerge yourself into to learn the quickest and most natural way, as the language is always evolving.

@@misskai8158 Yeah, My recommendation is to learn standard Latin American Spanish from something like The Pimsleur Language Method, the DuoLingo App, or the Mango Language App, but then complement that by listening to Panamanian Talk Radio, which you can listen to by downloading any of many radio Apps on your cellphone where you an listen to talk radio stations from around the world and simply choose Panama for the local accent. Hello! so I currently live in Canada, I want to become a non resident and become a resident of panama. I have a large stock portfolio in a non registered account, my question is will the CRA force me to pay tax on UNREALIZED gains? My plan is to sell my shares after I sever my ties with Canada.or would I have to transfer my shares to a foreign account befoe becoming a non resident? I would very much appreciate a response!

I'm not familiar with Canadian Tax Law or anything but one thing I'm pretty sure is Panamanian Law and that is any incomes originating from outside of Panama, Panama itself will not tax. Again, I cannot speak for Canada, but Panama will not tax you. You can have accounts anywhere around the world that you'd like while living in Panama.

You can own a gun after you get a gun permit. You can't get a gun permit until you get your permanent Visa. Most people in Panama do not own a gun.

why would they cringe? Any local area is a market, whether you want to accept it or not. He's simply speaking from his focus and background, which happens to be business so he is somewhat marketcentric and that's ok; the world needs people with vision and intelligence to help drive economies and keep the financial arena healthy and vibrant.

I'm from Panama and I don't cringe. Even for Panamanians it's the local market. As long as his attitude is not predatory everything is ok. And from having listened to him he does not seem to be predatory, so he's welcome to participate in our market and perhaps he too has things to offer to our market as well. That's what an economy is all about. Panama is a very thriving and open international market.
