I’ll break the REALLY high end ones out one day, we used to have this connection, back in the day..the native Ecuadorian people visited us once with hat bodies that rival the finest ones one earth..we hoard them, they are very, very special, so,e have little woven cutouts of leaves, arrows, etc.. like lattice work,sort of like doilies..and some are so fine, u need the magnifier to see the little stitches.. we have some woven by the famous Delgado who was rumored to be the best weaver, ever.. u see two signatures on a fino, and when one is a DG, the hat goes up in value another thousand.. AMAZING idea for a video. I’m going to do one on those REAL high end ones. People pay incredible amounts for these hats, there’s a dealer in Hawaii that has fine ones selling in the thousands of dollars..and the stuff we have is even crazier..not all of it is super fine, some is okay, just in the $750 range but others ? They belong in a museum, many ahv been sold, but we still have a few special ones, all bodies, unblocked..right from the weavers hands Inspiring comment, thanks!!!!

It's been a while since I checked out your channel. But you're still the man, Kevin. I just purchased a borselino Panama wide brim. But the snap is too up for me. I want to flatten it out a bit flattened out the brim a bit, not sure how to do that. I was gonna send it back.But I love the quality gonna hold on to it for a bit and see if I can stay mid and flatten it myself.Thanks for your great videos

It should be noted that a Cuenca is more breathable because of the lower quality weave. The Montecristi that I have is woven so tightly that it doesn't really allow for much airflow, so it goes better as a dress hat than something you want to wear out in the hot sun. Also, the Montecristi will never be true "white" because they will not bleach them beyond the natural "bleaching" process done with a smoker. They would consider it a waste because bleaching makes the straw brittle and they simply won't do that to a Montecristi hat. I tried. Lol I got told no way. I even had to request stiffener on the brim because even that, they considered lowering the quality of it. But they did it, and they did pick out the clearest and lightest straw they had, so it's pretty close to white! Sorry for rambling. A true Panama is one of my favorite hats. Mine is a Fino Fino Montecristi Havana and I absolutely love it!

Good point, finos are hotter.. yup Little airflow! I like the Tesi Lumbra for that reason..

i bought a very nice looking straw hat at a farm store once, and had it only a week until i was on a tractor and a tree limb knocked it off and it went under the brush hog and chopped it up . I was thinking of buying a stetson Bryce Palm Leaf Straw Wide Brim Gus Hat

allahu snackbar those are a little heavy, but bulletproof, they take rain,stomping, bending,anything..outlasts any other hat, probably made in Mexico? Those are good outdoorsy,tough hats that just last..

yes it says made in mexico, made of palm straw. Looks like one model is curved up on the sides and the other is more like a sombaro look. Both have the gus crown. @@KTGHATS

allahu snackbar yeah,Mexican..those are very,very strong. Cheap prices, last forever.. but be prepared for a hat that is substantially heavier than your other straws..and pretty hard in the crown, but thick and bendy on the brim.. just think thick, and heavy. definitely worth the $50... that’s a cool as &#$@ hat, we carry a bunch of that stuff, not that one.. we have the ranchero, and about six more palm hats,more like downturned safari style brims with western bands.. I say go for it, I think even amazon has that for $50

Hmm I bought me a new panama hat for very cheap online. Branch is Hawkins. Nice hat but now I see its not a authentic panama hat because the weave is not circular but rectangular. Gues thats why it was so cheap. Without your video I would have never known that.

NorthSpider yeah, that’s paper.. it probably said “panama styling” or “hat in a panama style” like this Hawkins here, right below it it says,”paper” panama is good, but not the best, your paper straw is cool, just avoid rain like the plague , paper plus water? It’ll all but dissolve.. just be aware. And enjoy it, there are paper straws all over Stetsons catalog, they call it Shantung, or Toyo, both means..paper. not really bad, just costs a lot less to make. panama is fine, it’s luxurious looking, but overrated, there are many,many,many,many straws, I could name another twenty types.. enjoy that sucker, next time, run it by me if u want, send the link in the comments, my shop has half price hats a lot of the time, we can get u genuine panamas for half price at the end of the summer, Labor Day sale..but don’t sweat it, it looks ok to me.. it may be made in China or Mexico, just cheaper, u probably got a good deal.

Another way to tell, it will always say genuine panama, or hand woven panama, made in Ecuador, usually all three, and they have a hot stamp, a burned makers mark, says made in Ecuador..but yep, you’re learning, no concentric rings? No panama..well done,

Thanks for the reply. I'm heading for a tropical location this summer so that cheap hat won't do I think. And I' from europe so dropping by isn't really on the menu. But much thanks for the info.
