Let's mabele for breakfast fam.
Mabele soft porridge, also known as sorghum porridge, is a traditional African dish that is delicious and nutritious. Here's a basic recipe for mabele soft porridge:
Ingredients:
1 cup fine mabele (sorghum) flour
3 cups water
A pinch of salt (optional)
Sugar or honey, to taste
Milk or cream, to taste (optional)
Sliced banana, Berries, nuts, or raisins for garnish (optional)
1 lemon
Method:
1. In a mixing bowl, combine the mabele (sorghum) flour and cold water, mix them together to ensure the it is well combined.
2. In a separate pot or saucepan, bring 2-3 cups of water to a boil. Make sure the water is boiling before moving on to the next step.
3. Add a pinch of salt if you're using it.
4. Gradually add the mabele flour to the boiling water while continuously stirring. This is important to prevent lumps from forming. Stir until the mixture thickens. I used a whisk and it works all the time.
5. Reduce the heat to low and let the porridge simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. The porridge should have a smooth, thick consistency. You can adjust the thickness by adding more water or mabele flour, depending on your preference.
6. Drizzle lemon juice of 1 lemon. Once the porridge is cooked to your desired consistency, remove it from the heat. If it's too thick, you can thin it out with a little extra hot water.
Serve the mabele soft porridge in bowls. Sweeten it with sugar or honey to your taste, and add milk or cream if you prefer a creamier texture.
Garnish your mabele soft porridge with sliced bananas, berries, nuts, bread or raisins if you like.
