not sure about filipino claims to creating these drills as near identical drills are found in silat from sth thailand,/ where its called muay chaiya,to malaya ,indo ,borneo,brunei /most sth east asian styles have their roots in the srivijaya empires fighting systems including filipino

Lando Patilan Jkd is not a style. It's a artless art. It's about flow & adaptation. It's a process!!!

@@TheSilatiger THE DESCRIPTION SPECIFICALLY SAID PANUNTUKAN..which is a filipino martial art...how specific do you want it to be?...ofcourse it would have similarities with other martial arts cozx all martial arts are inter related...but the fact that the video specified PANUNTUKAN it means that this is specifically a filipiino martial art...and even though its similar to your silat doesnt mean it is silat... if youre familiar with kali empty hands you would immediately recognise the drills

Ha ha! I'm glad someone finally asked. The uppercut under the arm is often referred to as 'gaja', which means elephant tusk I believe. But it sounds kind of like Gaggia, the Italian coffee machine maker. Since I'm often mistaken for Italian, I thought I'd put it in.

problem with drilling is the distance remains constant which in a real fight doesnt happen,theres no in/out movement footwork,and one tends to attack at same speed ,theres no varying speeds in attack,unlike boxing sparring where you see different speeds and angles though its good for rythmn and coordination

TheSilatiger this isn’t a substitute for sparring. Even at high intensity with broken rhythms and range change (which this platform supports) it’s not sparring- it’s semi-cooperative-it’s for building tactile and visual recognition so you learn to do more interesting things in sparring. Combined with sparring I’ve found it develops a capable martial artist far far faster than sparring alone.

of course ,have done these types of drills many times,am guru of harimau ,gayong,berantai and lumpat minang/yours are like variations of ours,we see them as knife drills really

How effective is a full on elbow to the bicep? Like I here the term limb destruction thrown around when dealing with kali/arnis/escrima but is that a exaggeration?

Culture Warrior Quite effective, especially when followed by the hyper-extension of the elbow. In a real fight, you'd be taking that arm out of the equation and fighting a one armed opponent. Also, with practice, it works well against a knife. There are many follow-up moves to choose from afterwards, but the main point is to take that arm out of the fight and not just to hit it. Think of it as a severe Charlie-Horse. Cheers.

ive had it done to me in sparring on accident and on purpose and they both hurt... it's one of those things where if you consciously try to do it you'll probably never pull it off.....but the bicep and tricep as a Target is a whole lot easier than doing a elbow gunt on the fist which again sometimes you end up hitting your opponent in the elbow while he's covering and you actually hurt your own fist because it takes an extreme amount of practice to pull off an elbow. On an incoming fist

It is used to incapacitate your opponents bicep for moment so that you can follow up with your knocking blow.

@KickofLegend

Empty hand Kali, or panantukan, or dirty boxing. This drill is highly related to wing chun chi sao. Anything you'd like to see, write in or check out some of the people I work with!

panuntukan is a filipino martial art...from the root word "suntok" meaning punch...it is one aspect of the FMA which is usually incorporated with kali/eskrima/arnis...

Very pretty, but this is reliant of fine motor skills, and anything that has that many steps before getting to a technique that does significant damage to his ability to fight is a recipe for disaster.
