What would you choose if lens will be dedicated for olympus E-M10 III? Its better to stay with Olympus lens for olympus body, or its worth to try Panasonic becouse of stabilization? Its for street photography, 99% handheld). Help me choose becouse im with this problem already for almost month xD

I own both Panasonic and Olympus lenses and I have yet to be disappointed in either brands. I own the Olympus 12-40 f2.8 PRO and I will say that it's definitely a must own for M43 users that want a 2.8 zoom. It's sharp, contrasty, and the colors are awesome. Plus it's light enough yet, built like a tank. Awesome lens.👍

Luigiz28 which one do you prefer i have the bmpcc4k with a sigma 18-35 but it’s too heavy for my gimbal.

The Olympus looks sharper and in this one test it even looked like the AF was more responsive. However not having IS is a deal-breaker for me because I'll mostly be shooting video with it.

Thanks. I have the Olympus 12-40. So far it looks very good but it is impossible to record audio close to the lens because in AF the focus engine makes some noise. Do you have the same at your Olympus and does also the panasonic has this problem?

Shoot manual my good man, its the way to go, of course, I dont know your style or shooting situation, but i sure would hate for you to miss out on the real benefits of this great glass on the Olympus ;)

The Panasonic has a silent focusing motor, you never hear the motor during video.

Thank you for this informative video. I have the GH5 with the Olympus M Zuiko 12 - 40 mm f2.8 Pro. But I have problems focusing with the 12mm focal length. I can get a sharp focus at 12mm when the subject is close to the lens ~ 1 ft or .5 - 1.0 meters but when I get more distant like 7 ft I cannot get a sharp focus at 12mm. The focus wants to be all the way to infinity but it is not sharp whether I focus closer or not. However if I focus at infinity and zoom in just a little to 14mm everything is very sharp. I cannot figure out what the problem is. I have the GH5 set on Movie mode and manual focus. The firmware in GH5 and Olympus is up to date. Why would I not be able to get sharp focus at around 7 ft at 12mm but get sharp focus closer or with zoom out to 14mm? I have tried focusing with the focus ring slide back toward me and forward away from me. When I increase the f stop at 12mm it gets a bit sharper than 2.8 - 3.2 but not really sharp.

Hi Ian, can you comment whether there is a big difference in terms of stabilization. Dual IS on the 12-35 and just the IBIS on Oly 12-40. For video.

Hi Jon, Definitely you can feel the difference, the Lumix lense is more steady when you use it with a Lumix budy because of the Dual IS.

Thanks for your quick reply, Ian. That's the thing, when we have a wide selection, we tend to be undecided! I recently gotten the 12-40 2nd hand at a fairly good price. I wouldn't be doing it justice if I don't use it longer.

@@Jaymino_ hi! I'm in the same situation now. I'm about to buy an gh5 and the guy also has an 12-40 for a good price. But I film exclusively handheld, so dual IS sounds tempting. On the other hand there are 5mm extra on the olympus. How is your impression so far with simple IBIS on 12-40? This is a reeeeeally tough choice.. :))

@@michaelacker hi Michael, I use the Oly 12-40 on my GX85. I have found that the IQ is good across all focal length. But I do wish the stabilization is better. And the Oly lens is tad heavier & longer. So in my case, I prefer the Panny. For dual IS and a compact package. Worth shelling out the extra for it IMO.

I agree with everything you said about the Olympus, but I intend to run and gun on my BMPCC4k. would Olympus be a bad choice if thats how I intend to use it? Since there was no comparison of what Olympus clip would look like in the video

Привет! я как раз обладатель bmpcc4k и Panas 12-35 - Сейчас планирую купить Олимпус. Стабилизация видео нужна только для домашней или не профессиональной съемки. Свадьбы и корпоративы тоже можно. Но для рекламы стабилизация внутри линзы просто не нужна. Советую купить лучшее стекло от Олимпус и стэдик. Или спид бустер и стекло от Кэнон или от Сигмы. На Панасоник можно снимать - за полтора года много чего наснимал для рекламы, но объектив от этого лучше не стал. Панасоник 12-35 II это мутная пластиковая хуйня.

The biggest difference is OIS in the Panasonic. If you're using the panasonic then go for the pana.

Lumix lenses preform better on Lumix bodies. Same for Olympus. There is no way the Olympus beat the the lumix if both were mounted to a lumix body.

I was like "whoa!" that's some sharpness difference, surely your lens is defective.. then I realized that youtube HD compression mixed with loading images in Lightroom taking a few seconds, meant that you can't see a thing properly in the sharpness comparison lol.

It's the best for photo, but the constant apperture gives you an extra stop in video at long focal distances and the oly has that great manual focus clutch
