This helped me out a lot! I had the 7 blinks problem on a Panasonic TH50-PZ85U. I replaced the SU board, then had the pinstriping problem. I followed your advice and got rid of the horizontal stripes! Like you said, to get the ribbon cables in properly, you have to put the ribbon cables into the connectors , keeping them low and close to the circuit board as you do so. I found if you have the cable in the connector properly, you'll feel a positive "click" as you close the connector down.

I visually inspected the capacitors but did not find any that were obviously blown or bulging. You are right that if I could have located the bad capicitor the fix could have been around $.05.

Thanks for sharing, but alas I couldn’t fix our TV. We own a 50” Panasonic Plasma TV Model No. TC-P50X1 and a couple of days ago two thirds of the bottom of the screen has black horizontal lines. At first the area was flickering as if there was a storm, then total black 30 mins later. With your video and another video I was able to at least figure out how to unclip the horizontal ribbons from the circuit board (good tug!), dust, wipe down, and re-clip. However, problem is the same. Hate to dump it, but it has had a good life with us (12 years). Thanks anyway!

@imbillmoney I am not sure how to do a hard restart. I know the 7 blinks can mean that one or a couple of boards are bad. I read through it really quick at about 1:08 in the video. Double check your connections. Is the replacement SC board new or did you buy it used. Maybe the replacement is also bad. Sorry I can't be more help.

I have the same model (bought in 2009) and the light is flashing TEN times after unplugging the power cord for an hour. Any ideas? My husband is handy and can fix it with a tutorial if you have one.

@zoody1 This is what I found, Missing P5V 5 BLINKS P5V from the A board Reasons: • The A board is not generating the 5V • The 5V is been affected by the SC, SS, A, or C2 SC,SS C2 A ¤ board (A short circuit of the P5V). Wrong diagnostic by the A board

I have TH-50PZ80U. Initially it was 3 blinks. I would unplug/replug and it works, but it returns. I thought it was the bulb, which is what many at Best Buy and HHGreggs reps tell you. Today I saw there are now 10 blinks... wth! What is the 10 blinks?

Mine popped and made an odor (more than one time after re-plugging. When I opened it up and started troubleshooting that went away. I followed Scott's procedure on my P50G10, which duplicated his results, six blinks to eight, so I've removed the same board and ordered another. Now that the board is off, I've found the place where it shorted, so I'm hopeful the new board will resolve my problem. IMPORTANT NOTE: the control panel, SU & SD boards do not have to be removed to remove the SC board. the SU & SD boards have two screws each that are attached to the SC board and those are all that have to be removed from those boards. No need to remove ribbons and boards, etc. Remember to detach the black ribbons, then all you have to do is remove the screws around the perimeter of the SC board, then it will slide right out from under the other boards. I sure hope I reattached the ribbons properly. No matter what happens in the end, I felt this video was very helpful.

Why didn't you check some capacitor? Usually they're the ones failing so hard so maybe replacing them should have been enough. Good job anyway!

Don't remember a loud bang. Just remember it would try and turn on like normal and then click like it was turning off and then the light would blink.

I tried to post in the earlier comments the websites that I used to find my information. It has been so long now that I do not remember where I found them. Sorry I can not help more on other models. This is the only tv I have ever fixed or attempted to fix. It is still going strong since the repair with no faults since.

You've either been talking to an overpriced TV repairman who is trying to frighten you in the name of job security, or someone who is especially uninformed on household electronics. It is true that the large capacitors (4k-5k micro-farad) in the power supply of a plasma TV can give you a good jolt if they are not allowed to discharge for a few hours after unplugging the unit. However, as long as it's unplugged it's hardly enough voltage to kill you. It would be a healthy jolt that would certainly hurt. It might also stop a pace maker if you relied on one for life, but 4000 volts? No way. By the way I fixed my Plasma TV power supply myself. There were broken components on the board. I used a digital multimeter to test the various components. I replaced 2 fets, 3 swollen capacitors, and re-soldered some other components that had come loose from the board. Works like new.
