Hello Stephen, great review. I would to ask you this, on the minute 7:37 you show the rec formats under .mov but i have an UX/90 and i don't have all those rec formats. I have only for .mov 4 options: UHD at 25p, and FHD at 50p, 25p and 50i. You think this is because i live in Europe, or because i need to set some setting better? Thanks a lot for the help in advance

I don't know - this was a review unit that was shipped back a few days later. It could be a European vs. NA issue or something else.

Very nice presenting style and clear review. Would have liked a little more info about frame rates (does this shoot anything higher than 60fps for example?) and some examples of graded flat footage. Also a little about low light performance (the sunset is ridiculously sharp - assume there's no post noise reduction?). As I say though great job thank you!

Can you recommend a 4K Camcorder that has really fast Focus Lock on as i film Common Buzzards in the sky and hate when the Buzzard Jumps in and out of Focus i always use the Viewfinder as i find it difficult to Track a Buzzard in the Sky using the Pull out Screen as i use the Sony FDR-AX53. with my choice Im thinking of the Panasonic HC-X1 or the Sony PXW Z180 or Cannon XF400 or Sony FDR-AX700.

Hi there, great review :) What 4k camera would you suggest for filming concerts, weddings and such? Lots of times low light condition. I saw a test of the x1000, and I think it looked pretty good, but this one should be better in low-light, right? You know if there will be any updated versions of this camera, or the x1000 or similar before march 2018?

I haven't shot on the EX-1. If you look at the bonus video that only includes footage shot with this camera, you'll find a lot of low light shots. They look pretty good to me. Downscaling shouldn't affect that.

Great review. Any thoughts on Panasonic's more consumer-oriented HC-X1000? Seems almost identical, except for a few industry standard outputs.
@schleicher120008 жыл бұрын
From what I know of that camera, the big difference is the sensor size. HC-X1000 is only 2/3-inch compared to the 1-inch sensor, which means 1000 won't have as shallow a depth of field compared to UX90.

I want to use the virtual sets Wirecast offers (greenscreen), maxbe you have another suggestion what cam I should look at. Thanks and keep up the good work!
@schleicher120007 жыл бұрын
You really don't need a 4K camera for live streaming. You should probably look for an inexpensive HD camera for what you need.
@drowles257 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen - I'm a panasonic fan but I have the HMC 150 and while the color is great - when you pan the camera with the HMC 150 (in 1080) you get some crappy images. How is the UX 90 image quality when panning?
@schleicher120007 жыл бұрын
you would have to define crappy images. Are you shooting in 1080i or 1080p? Do you have the shutter speed set correctly? Any number of reasons could cause that. I don't have the camera any more (it was a review unit), but I did not notice any problems.
@drowles257 жыл бұрын
It creates hard edges on the sides of objects - regardless of if it's 1080p or 1080i in my experience. So I'm guessing you didn't notice any image quality issues when you panned using the UX 90?

I did not.

@ProductReviewkk6 жыл бұрын
A couple of questions. (i) What is the resolution of the still images? (ii) I'm sure that you can't replace the lens but can you confirm that? (iii) Can you use it for Macro filming, or very close up shots? (iv) is it possible to get the depth of field effect using this where the background gets blurred? Is it possible to change the focus while tapping on the LCD monitor? Thank you for your time. Your video really sparked me in buying this. I was contemplating GH5. With this video now I have to make a choice between this one and GH5. What would be your recommendation besides considering the price and based solely on the quality of 4K and FHD? As you may have guessed, my work is mainly in video filming . Thanks a lot for even reading this.
@schleicher120006 жыл бұрын
I reviewed this camera over two years ago. It was a review unit I had for a total of five days. 1) You'll have to look at the specs released from Panasonic. 2) You can not remove the lens unless you want a broken camera 3) The minimum focus distance can be found in the spec sheet (I believe it is about 1m) 4) Yes, but that will be a result of Focal Length, Iris, and Subject to Camera distance.

So your saying this isn't a good studio type (greenscreen) camera? For example, this camera being stationary most of the time and the subject having a greenscreen behind them or in an event setting like a convention with attempting to focus on a speaker who is talking? If not, What Camera do you recommend that has a nice sensor with 4K
@schleicher120007 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thanks for watching the video... you may want to watch it again, because no where in the video did I say anything about this camera not being a good choice for studio or greenscreen use. That being said. The internal recording for this camera is 4:2:0, which has really low subsampling of the color whish results in very poor quality greenscreen (unless you like to do a lot of roto work or like chunky blocks around your subject). On the plus side, if you have an external recorder that can record at a better subsampling rate, the external output of the UX90 is 4:2:2, which will give you better (still not the best, but better) quality footage for greenscreen work. So, what camera would I recommend for greenscreen work? Ideally if you can find a camera that has a color sampling of 4:4:4 at 16-bit or higher, then you are in business! That being said, you aren't going to find one that will do that at this price point. Hope that helps!
@KingdomWithinU7 жыл бұрын
Thank you and Thank you for the video!
@jonlambert767 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't actually say that it's 'very poor' on green screen. I actually still use one older DVX100 standard def camera for green screen on some corporate work, and I use a t2i dslr camera more commonly. They both do quite well, as the subsampling isn't the most important part of the process. As long as you are lighting well, and have a camera that can take a decent image, you can do green screen quite well. Sure, the subsampling will help if you're working on really high bit rate projects and all that, but most people aren't. In fact, many streamers these days use green screen that looks 'fairly' decent even with a cheaper webcam setups.
