Panasonic DMR-BWT850EB PVR Blu-ray Combi Review

I was going to get one of these to replace one of my DMR-ES`s to give me more disc capacity to record my old VHS`s (100`s of them) onto the HDD, edit them, then put them onto Bluray, as well as putting my Digital Stream recordings onto Bluray, but it doesnt have SCARTs & doesnt have a HDMI in, so appears to be useless in that regard.. I`m guessing it doesnt have the option of connecting an external extension drive on either. Is there a Blueray recorder with at least a 1tb HDD WITH connectivity for older AV equipment?

I would suggest finding an old MiniDV camcorder with a composite input. In theory it should be possible to connect a VCR to that and stream the video into a PC with Firewire.

So far I hate it and it's gone wrong almost straight out of the box and today trying to use the DVD player I can't find the eject button on the remote?????

@@KKTR3 Its on the machine, as you have to go to it to change the disk anyway.

Did he say this thing has hdmi 1.4? Why would it not be 2.0? Was this just a misstatement by the reviewer, or is that indeed the standard they used on a 400 dollar 4k blu ray player?

Alter the settings. There is an option to switch it off/on, dim, bright.

Does anybody else lose their existing freeview channels when they update them?

Yes I did when I updated about a year ago, lost BBC4HD and a couple of other HD! Crystal Palace transmitter. Older Panasonic DMR-BWT800.

Kalev Heli disappointed. There's only 1 HDMI port. Cant work out how to record programmes from satellite

Defective product on the HDD already completely confused cannot find the address button on the remote

Very disappointed. You can't record of Sky or burn DVD's and when I get a message that states there are freeview channels to update, I lose all of the channels I already have. Avoid.

No phono audio out options, forget it.

What a disappointment this is. Trust me, don't buy it. You will regret it. The most annoying thing about it is when you have to find a recording in the menu, you have to go through every recorded title as there is no A-Z search which is ridiculous. I'm now going to sell mine on and get a better unit
