Just purchased this player. Very satisfied with the performance for both video and audio. However, for a $1k product, I can not believe Panasonic did not add the feature to read metadata from audio music CD's to display the artist name, song and album title. The DP-UB820 and the UB9000 feature the same video capabilities, including HDR10, HDR10+, HDR optimization options, and greater speed precision. The 9000 model does have a couple more HDR settings to adjust and fine tune for your TV, but the bulk of the differences are for improving audio performance. Since you are using separate speaker system instead of the TV's speakers, that can justify the setup to the 9000 model.

Thank you for the informative video. Care should be taken when turning On the Optimizer feature in these players. It works like a limiter in audio, placed at the end of the chain before the speaker outputs. In HDR, the TV already has a chip to adjust the HDR maximum peak luminance metadata values of the content to the TV capability through dynamic tone mapping. In the case of Dolby Vision and HDR10 Plus, the TV also reads the average luminance levels frame by frame. When using the Optimizer in the player, it's better to turn off the TV dynamic tone mapping. Otherwise, the dynamic tone mapping of the content is reduced twice: by the TV dynamic tone mapping and by the player.

My JVC XV-NA70BK DVD player from 2004 can do that with ease. Zoom controls allow more intimate control over content and really adds to the fun. The least Panasonic should do for a player at this price is to add this feature via a firmware, but they probably wouldn't do so even if they could.

Now that the PS5 & XSX are out it's clear that they don't support DV or HDR10+ (though there's a glimmer of hope for the XSX eventually supporting DV on discs). Even though LG TVs generally don't support HDR10+ (that would be capitulation to Samsung for them), the superior digital A/V performance of both players for both DV & HDR10 would make them better 4K Blu-ray choices than the PS5 & XSX.

my old cambrigde from 2010 play it all ok not atmos or fake 4k video!! but stil sacd sound and dts master hd thats fine 547dollars 10years ago stil going strong... no way we will see 500gb 4k on an blu-ray disk never gonna happen

Why would anyone need 500gb for 4K? If you're calling 4K Blu-ray "fake" cuz it's not the same as DCI 4K, just stop it; it's closer to DCI 4K than anything else on the consumer market. Even regular Blu-ray is NOT uncompressed digital video, and HEVC can be set to compress 4K video just enough to fit on a 4K disc (100gb max) -- far less compressed than 4K streaming even using the same HEVC codec.

Why do Americans insist on saying Oh-po....when it’s Oppo! Do you say Oh-pposite? Or Oh-ptimum? 😖

Way overpriced! Plus I’m happy with my OPPO!

LOL Talk about overpriced.
@richellebrittain21273 жыл бұрын
Overpriced? Then get the 820; it doesn't have the 9000's top-notch DACs or balanced audio outputs, but at least it HAS analog audio (unlike most other 4K players) plus almost the same digital A/V features as the 9000. (And an Oppo owner calling the 9000 "overpriced" is definitely a pot-meet-kettle moment.)

@@richellebrittain2127 Yeah $500 more is overpriced! Like I said I’m sticking with my OPPO. Do you have an OPPO, right?

So bad player, don’t work with 4K files via USB ports! Blu Ray discs upscale very bad! Great disappointment! 👎
