depends on the lens youre using. i recommend the rokinon 12mm f2.0 wide angle lens for astro photography. its perfect and costs around 300 usd

Great review man, if you were to pick between this, a nikon d3300 or a panasonic fz300. Which would you pick? Mainly for pictures and once in a while video recording

For pictures I might go with the D3300. Bigger sensor and more megapixels, but my D5300 had a super noise stock lens which made me sell it because of how noise it was for video. So if you are mainly wanting Pictures go for the D3300 I just had a noise stock lens for the D5300 but it might be better now. If not I love my G7 for pictures and video, but it really excels at video :)

First off thank you so much for the support and for the kind comment! Secondly I would say it depends on your focus. If your focus is photography I would go with Cannon, and if your focus is video I say G7 Cannon can take really good video too, and kills it at the photography game, but Panasonic has taken awesome images and kills it with 4k video and way more video tools that I find super helpful in what I do. So it depends on what you are hoping to focus more on. :)

If you like video more definitely go with the G7 and overall if you want a camera that takes great stills and video I would go G7, but if you want a camera strictly for photos the Nikon D5300 is better in my opinion so it really depends on what is most important to you :) thanks so much for the support!

That's a great question. The Nikon (in my opinion is better for pictures) and the G7 is definitely better for video (again in my opinion) but I still feel like the Panasonic G7 takes great pictures! :) If you went with either one you would be happy with both! :)

First off thanks for the extremely kind words! Secondly I usually shoot photos in aperture priority mode as I am mostly concerned with bokeh in most of my shots for photography. I also shoot video in either 1080p @ 24 frames or 4k @ 24 frames. I always shoot photos in raw and sometimes will shoot in raw + jpeg just to see how the camera produced a basic jpeg shot. But because I shoot photos and videos in such a large variety of places and lighting I don't have a consistent setting list I can give you for everything but hopefully those helped! :)

It's amazing for vlogging! It has the fully rotating screen (which is a must in my opinion), shoots in 4k, is lightweight, great battery life for all day shooting, small and portable, and is a great price! It is my pick for a vlogging camera right now :)

Like the video. I have the G7, need help with settings tips you may have. Specifically with focusing in video and with image stabilization. When I walk I get a lot of movement in the footage.

Thanks for the support! As far as tips go... I know that the camera does not have any built in stabilization so if you have anything like a pistol grip or a gorilla pod that you can use it will help greatly reduce any shakiness in or during video. In addition if you have it in the budget I would look into investing in a lens that has built in stabilization if you're doing a lot of hand held shots. Hope this helps!

So... If i'm being honest I don't set mine to anything different but standard settings and then I adjust in post. I am trying to work with the flatter image settings so I can practice color grading more, so if you are into that I really suggest going through and setting the profile to the flattest settings possible. A Blackbird's Books I'd be glad to recommend a mic! I use the Rode Video Mic Go which works great but there are plenty of cheaper mic options that also work great such as the Rode video micro and more expensive options like the Rode video mic Pro that has a decibel boost and is battery powered.

gchild01 so to answer your question if you are 50-50 I would probably lean to Cannon just because it's great for photography and does a really good job at video as well. Cannon is tried-and-true and if you are definitely set in the middle I might steer you that direction, but if you have any desire to do better and more serious video work I would absolutely suggest getting the Panasonic G7 :)

It is a great camera for the price. Love mine. Important to turn on the stabilization setting in the menu when doing video (made the mistake of not doing that and it's ridiculously jittery otherwise). This is engaging the optical stabilization in the lens. I forgot to mention that in my review of the G7 but it's pretty key for video.

That's a great question! I still feel like it is. If you watch the review I did of the Panasonic 25mm you can see that the quality still really holds up! My thought is that if you can look at the quality of it and you don't find yourself thinking that it is lacking anything then it still holds up and in my opinion (especially for the price) it holds up great!

Well really for what it is and what it tries to be it doesn't do much wrong. The battery life kicks butt, the pictures and video are great, and the price point is right. I would say that if I could have anything different I would prefer having an optical view finder. I just like them more (currently) but I will say there are definitely advantages of having the digital view finder (like seeing your exposure before you shoot). But I really didn't have anything I hated with the camera even today :)

The benefits greatly outweigh the disadvantages, it's lighter, shoots 4k, has several more video shooting features, it's focus is just fine and if you are doing reviews you'll want to be using manual focus for most all of that anyway regardless of if you are using canon or LUMIX. :) If you are doing sit down videos you wont have any trouble with autofocus. The only time I have ever noticed any slowness is when I am consistently focusing from two very different perspectives i.e. while moving and vlogging (when you change from a front facing perspective to an object in front of you). Hope this helps :)

I personally have never used the gx85 but it looks like it is a fantastic camera and is slightly smaller, but sadly I just don't know enough about it to fully answer that man :)

Hands down the Panasonic G7! I have done a review of the D5300 you can check out but the short answer is get the G7 if you want to do video :)

Did you record the voice with the internal mic of the D5300 or any external mic? If yes, which one?

I used the Rode Video mic Go and placed it several feet from the camera to make sure I didn't get any of the focusing noise :)

Super late to this video but thanks man! Do you know what lenses I should have? I only have the one that came with it the 14-42. I mainly do upper body videos like this one and some other videos of me working at my studio desk.
