I just purchased the G85 video guide. I was a little worried at first that I might be wasting my money. I have only just moved across to the G85 and found it quite confusing and then I purchased and downloaded Calebs's Video tutor. I am blown away. This has to be the be the best $20 I ever spent. So well made and so informative. I shall be watching this over and over again. Good stuff Caleb and many thanks. I am now confident I can get the best out of this amazing camera.

As someone who spends a fair amount of time behind the camera is always trying to improve, your video reviews and videos in general are both high quality and highly informative. My G85 will be delivered this week and I'll definitely be checking out your Video Guide as well. Thanks again for another stellar video.

I picked up the G85 (A really great kit bundle with lens and extras) for my channel, and so far I am loving it! I purchased it after nearly 4 months of painstakingly working my way through every camera I could get information on, trying to find a camera that could match my criteria. Because this camera will be used for traveling, I found the G85 to match almost perfectly with my needs. I also purchased your master video for the camera and have been working my way through it slowly, trying to memorize the details I will need to get the camera to perform optimally while I travel. Thank you for posting your review of the G85! I feel even more confident with my purchase.

You sound like me when I was looking at buying a camera. I spent almost two months researching every camera within the $1.5k - $2k price range before settling on the G85. My wife thought I had some obsessive compulsive camera research disorder because every time she came into my office I was looking at reviews for yet another camera, after two months she was begging me to just pick one ;)
@thesadtraveler68118 жыл бұрын
I completely understand that, Pieter. Every time I have to make a major electronics decision (camera, laptop, even headphones) I do my research extensively because I want to guarantee that I will love my purchase for years to come. And because I know I will love and use it for so long, I can justify getting more expensive choices. ;)

Here in 2019! Question if anyone sees this. I already have an A6300 and do documentary style shooting for a living. Was thinking about getting a 2nd A6300 OR getting a G85 to go with it so I have 2 cameras during interviews. Another 6300 supports my current lenses BUT always overheat (like my current one). Should I go G85 as my 2nd camera (and use the kit lens) or just wait and save up for a nicer one?

Holy shit, you should be extremely proud of this video. It was comprehensive, and you answered every question that a person like me who is torn between the G85 and the G7 could hope to ask. I was particularly concerned about the lack of in body stabilization on the G7, especially since many of the attractive lenses I had been looking at do not provide that feature. Your video was a real eye-opener, and because I'm past my prime and my hand isn't steady, I realize now that the G85 would suit me better. One last thing also from one neck-beard to another, congratulations on the hot wife, beautiful home, etc.

3 Questions. 1)Does it have a video menu mode that gives 180 shutter speeds like the GH4? 2)When vlogging without a shotgun mic and using IBIS, can you hear the IBIS working? (tried to vlog with the GX85 and IBIS sound was noticeable annoying!) 3) Does it use the same batteries as the GX85?

If you do high ISO comparisons, it would be great to have some area with a lot of detail (bank note, feathers, ...) in the shot to see if the camera is just smoothing out the noise. Flat areas of different color can't really lose any detail so it's hard to tell. Thanks for the video!

The way I look at it with the 80D is - if you don't care for 4k, and don't need in body IS, I think you'd be better off going with the 80D. It's got the flippy touch screen, and paired up with it's amazing DPAF face tracking abilities, you really can't go wrong with it, and pairing it up with an STM lens. The face tracking is simply outstanding with the 80D. But, the G85 certainly has some big advantages with the 4k video, no time limit with recording, and in body IS. Both are great options and serve their purposes. Great review, as usual! You make my Tuesdays better :)

I got this camera on Monday and I was surprised with the 4k and 1080p recording capability. At the time I purchased this the price was a bit expensive but I think it's the best camera for under 1000 dollars. After doing some testing I figured the best focus setting for me was face tracking (not the one point) The 49 point I alright for focusing on a general area and is kinda fast but not as fast as the face tracking. I did some tests focusing on random objects with face tracking and the focus sensitivity at +2 and its focuses in under 2 seconds every time. All in all, I'm pretty impressed with this and since it has 4k and CineLikeD it's kinda future proof.

When I am shooting hand held and panning left or right the video has a lot of shudder and not smooth at all. The settings are 24fps and 1/50 shutter speed. I see a lot of footage shot with the camera and you don't see the shudder when panning. Are my settings wrong? Can you give me any suggestions to stop the shuddering video?

Right now I'm shooting with it in -15 Celsius weather... this is not a weather sealed camera, it may stop working one day.... The G85 seems like a perfect all-arounder, as you said. However, I may start saving money for the GH5.

So you covered everything, and too bad I saw your video after I bought a Sony a6500 because no one else was talking about the HORRIBLE rolling shutter of the 6500. One thing I did notice after I returned the 6500 was that when I was grading the footage, I was shocked at how much lattitude it had. I was able to push it back on forth about 4 stops (clean) WITHOUT using S-log 2 or 3. Anyway, you can do a comparison on the dynamic range and what we can push on this camera (vs the a6500)? I am going to buy this camera it seems as the GH5 while no doubt better in auto focusing STILL chose to stick with contrast detection for video (makes no sense) when that auto focusing system is old and played out. So they won't get my money for that. This appears my best bang for my buck.
