By far the most all encompassing G95 / G90 (G80/G85) video on youtube. Lots of other good ones but this one covers everything. Really helped me learn not only the camera, but some basic photography skills as well. Going into depth into literally every single feature was really great as it's quite overwhelming at first, being my first non-pointandshoot camera.

The gentleman gives clear, patient instruction. One main problem--the camera he's showing us is not the G-85. So, his buttons are slightly different. ALSO he moves too fast when accessing the menu to alter settings. It is very difficult to follow when he switches to the inner adjustments menu. Is there a tutorial specifically teaching the use of the G-85 with this amount of patient detail?

This video is incredible. Coming from making content with a phone and having never touched a DSLR in my life, I knew I would be going from roller skates to a space shuttle, but I didn't quite know just how true that was. Out of the box and touching nothing at all, the camera does a great job. I'm excited to see how much more I can get out of it once I have a slight clue of what I'm doing. Once again, you did a fantastic job here. 👍

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I have been traveling for over 12 years with a point and shoot camera simply pointing and shooting wildly and fallen in love with photography. I recently picked up the G95 to actually learn photography. The timing and content of this video is perfect!!! I love your calm demeanor and everything is easy to understand. Big fan, Michael!

Thank you very much, got my G80 in 2023, as far I as can tell there's plenty of them around for years still to come, this video is a great help to get started. Never seen a G90 in the wild or for sale around here btw. Curious to try one if ever. Forum warriors claim the 20MP sensor is rushed, every shot supposedly needs RAW processing afterwards.

Thanks it would have taken me a year to read the book as I stopped on every page to try everything out regardless if I knew what it meant or if I thought I would never need it. I just like to know where everything is. This was perfect to put the camera away, watch this overview and take notes on the spots I knew I wanted to revisit. Now I am much more confident in the gear. Newbie in photography here and this was my first ever camera purchase so this video was great. I do recommend getting the basic terminology down like Michael says. I did do other intro courses prior to this so if you know the basics (Aperture, Shutter, ISO) then this video is perfect

I just picked up this cameras with the included 12-60 mm lens. It’s my first real camera, with the exception of my drones. I hope I did good. I wanted a camera good a both photo and video and this camera fits the bill. I’d be using this mostly for nature/landscapes, long exposures, portraits of my kiddos, short 4K cinematic clips to supplement my drone footage.

I live in Brazil and even before the internet, B&H was known among AV people and enthusiast as a sure shot. I don't work for B&H and the only thing someone else bought for me, there, is a Sennheiser HD565 Ovation during the late 1990s - the fame, though, here in Brazil, persists to this day.

The Art Filters on the Lumix and Olympus cameras aren't a "Dead End." It could take hours in waisted post processing time to create the same result. If your some place at high noon and you'll never be back, these Art Filters can create a very enjoyable image. An advantage to Olympus is that you can autobracket your favorite filters with one click. Many times I've ask people their favorite image from a group, and its an Art Filter one they pick.

It's absolutely insane to me that Panasonic doesn't display active focal length but Olympus does. I stumbled on this video, hoping that maybe your in-depth guide had a solution. Nope, Panasonic in their infinite wisdom (but far better menu system and ergonomics than Olympus) decided to leave this critical feature out. Don't get me wrong, G95 shoots very well. And it's my first Panasonic body with IBIS (GX850 and G100 don't have it), but man - every system does have its quirks. I started on Olympus (E-PL5, E-M1 mk1, E-M10 mk1, E-M10 mk2), so losing my training wheels was 100% on Olympus - and I guess I took that feature for granted. Most of my shooting in the past 5 years has been with primes, so probably why I never noticed initially when I went Olympus >> Panasonic. But after getting a 40-150 f2.8 recently and noticing no focal length display on the G95, my first thought was check DPR/m43 forums. Seems I wasn't alone in being disappointed with Panasonic here, but their lengthy stubbornness on not adding it, seems like we'll never get it.

I love your videos. I am refamiliarizing myself with my G85 because I've been using my D500 for the past couple of years. Anyway, one thing I've noticed is the auto monitor/viewfinder does not work on monitor unless I pull the screen out even slightly. If it remains seated on the back of the camera, screen facing me, the monitor fails to turn on. Once on, it switches to viewfinder without issue.

Hi Michael, tough this tutorial is 2 years ago I find it still helpfull. Just last week I bought the G90 and was in doubt to choose between the G9 or the G90. So I decided for the G90 and I have no regrets. It's a wonderful hybride camera with its 20.3 MP and the image quality is great. Before purching the G90 I already owend some digital cameras like the Samsung NX300 and on this camera there is one feature I really like. It has the abillity when in recording movie it starts in the opening with a ' fading ' mode, and when stopping recording it also stops in the fading mode ( it looks good in some vids on my channel). And I wonder if the Lumix G90 has this feature too. I already went through the whole menu but could not find it. Is the feature available anyway on the G90?

good stuff, getting to perfectly understand all the options of g85 cant take a year of intensive practice. i'm not yet tempted by g95, g85 is just fine in 2019 and it costs used 1/2 of g95 (i paid $400 for a used almost new g85 in april 2018) , extra 4Mpix are not that big deal for me, i can grap d7200 for 24Mpix. the only thing that would make me move-a really bigger viewfinder - i'm too used to full frame nikon viewfinders that are still beating crap out of mirrorless in low light, and i do a lot of low light (dansing parties)

I didn't want to watch this because it's almost two hours long! I'm glad I did though, this is really good. I've got the G85 but even though it's showing the G95 it's great. Super helpful tips and explanations. I've understood the aperture/shutter speed/ISO triangle for years, but had no clue how to manipulate these appropriately. Being able to use the auto-balance is amazing. Even better being able to use it with "manual", and let the camera handle the ISO. I'm only halfway through. Thank you a lot for this great and in-depth tutorial. One remark that confused me (and might help others): At 45:52 you tell us to turn the "Direct Focus Area" to "on". However, this means you can't access the cameras focus clusters as shown in 50:15, since pressing the control dial will just move the focus area. I then quickly had to set "Direct Focus Area" to "off" again. Is there another way to quickly access the focus clusters when the "direct focus area"-option is set to "on"?

At 46:07 you switch on Direct Focus Area, does this disable selecting Focusing Cluster (AF Mode) at 50:12. Do you then have to use Quick Menu to change AF Mode. Can see Direct Focus Area being very useful when using LVF.
