I finished watching the video. Then I scrolled down to leave a comment, and saw Steve's comment about wanting to go back to New York. I thought the same thing while I was watching. I lived in Manhattan for about a year, then moved back to California because the recession of 1990 hit and I mostly found temp jobs in NY at that time. This was another fantastic video. You spoke in an honest and truthful manner. You made great points about believing in yourself, just getting out there and making content you want to make, and not judging others so often. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I always leave inspired after watching your videos. Now, it's time to do something with that inspiration. Thank you, again.

As far as I know the phase detect autofocus adds detecting pixels to the sensor that is not entirely beneficial to image quality. Next thing it'll be how good contrast detect was. Contrast detect is also more accurate but I get that phase detect is smooth for video if you want that.
@RockWILK3 ай бұрын
Makes sense, but it just doesn't even come up for me in the way I work. Even for KZbin videos, for me it's no big deal to manually focus, and all of my lenses are manual anyway, and so... I'm good where I am. ;)
@ryanstark23503 ай бұрын
@@RockWILK Hi Rock. I just got an almost mint second hand S1 delivered. Manual focusing on this is absolutely spectacular. 5.76-million dot viewfinder. I use vintage lenses so all manual focusing. This is my first Lumix. I was using Sony before so some hassle in the next few weeks to get used to it. An annoying expense but my Sony broke so I'm finished with Sony. I've had several problems with them. All these Lumix cameras are a bargain.

Great video! The GH5 is an incredible camera. Buying a new camera is basically a luxury not all can afford. I had the opportunity the other day to meet with some people from Lumix on the House of Red a panasonic pop up event for fathers day and I got to feel the GH7 and the S9 and man they are both incredible specially the GH7 but like I said before it's a luxury.
@RockWILK3 ай бұрын
You’re a great example. You do amazing work with the GH5. I don’t think your work would be any better with any other camera, I guess you would feel like you have greater opportunity to do more with it, but I really wonder about that. You probably have everything you need to do everything you wanna do. :-) Awesome that you got to meet those people, I hope they support your channel. You’d be a great representative for them. If that’s something you wanted to do. Lol.

@@RockWILK Man you do amazing work, Nah Lumix is probably looking for big fish like most companies, which it's insane because most big creators really believe Full Frame is better just because they all repeat it. It's just different systems and tools. If I ever go to full frame it'll be because I want to use some swirly lenses in the future and the lens characteristics are covered by full frame sensors and some of those characteristics get lost with smaller sensors. Other than that The quality is the same depending on the camera.
@RockWILK3 ай бұрын
@@CabralCreates totally agree. I got the S5 because I knew I was shooting a film where I was going to be in the dark a lot. And also, I shoot mainly with vintage lenses that cover the full frame, so for me it made sense, and also for the price that I paid for my S5, it was a no-brainer. But I know if I had the GH5 at that time, I would’ve had no reason to look for another camera.

Even if I have the G9II and S5II, I always come back to my GH5 and S5 for videos, the level of details in these cameras is fantastic and very close to a burst of raw pictures, I can't say the same about the S5II and G9II, especially in 4K.

That's so interesting to me. I think some of the new features, like phase detect AF have perhaps taken some of the image quality down a notch on some cameras. But the thing is... people care more about autofocus than they do how the image looks. Not me. ;) Thanks for the comment and for coming through, I greatly appreciate that.

Makes me want to go back to New York. I wish trains had a small window that opens so I can photograph/video from especially into the sun. With each new camera, I hit limitations, shots I can't get or don't like. Only then, if the shot was important enough, do look at the new camera. Thanks for the video, enjoy listening to you.

Hi, Love your channel...about quality from the sensor no really difference between MFT APSC and FF...but 12 bit Raw from S5 is imho the best you can get IQ specially prores raw...own 3 S5 OG and I am always amaized by the image and I try each time to record raw...sure the stories project comes first (for me is audio the most important because I am in event production and not in narrative) I own as well GH5,GH5s,P4K and P6K...and just love raw video 12 bit the difference if you searching the beautiful image 12 bit is the key P4K for exemple MFT and fantastic image and dept...and it is a 6 years camera kind of all manual functional but great satisfaction Usually I am making short docs,live event multicam coverage of festival concert all about music classical,brass jazz...no corporate and no narrative...love documentary work run and gun... So I am not in narrative but If you are happy with you gear that's the most important... Personally I love shooting raw even if it is more work in post it is just more rewarding...so GH7 great specially for prores raw internal...
@RockWILK3 ай бұрын
Thanks for all of this, and for the kind words. I was actually thinking of buying a blackmagic monitor video assist just so I could shoot black magic raw, or prores raw with my S5. But I don’t really need all of that because I’m a narrative or documentary shooter, so it’s not really that important for me. But I would love to mess around in post with raw footage so that I could really push the colors even further, although I have to say that Vlog is really flexible and pretty amazing. And yes, of course, for me the story is everything. I shot an entire feature film with my phone, and I was really happy with it, but I love shooting with the S5 because I shoot all manual, which I really enjoy. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with auto focus, but I’m just not interested in it with my workflow. Especially since I only use vintage or anamorphic lenses. Anyway, sounds like you’re doing beautiful work, congratulations on that, and thanks so much for coming through, I really appreciate that.

@@RockWILK thx for your answer I have no ambition for narrative...but I will say that if you buy the video assist or ninja V you will not regret it. Some advice for you in advance If you use Resolve Studio Prores raw files need to be transcoded to CDNG wir rawconvertor or assimilate and a 2 TB SSD gives you 2 h of recording. But the image is fantastic 14+ dynamic range Great roll off I love beautiful skin tones and you have a RAW VLOG curve Videoassist 12 G ist super bright really 2000 nits HDR record straight to SSD or to very fast and file size are much much smaller and efficient you get more flexibility and compression choices with a 2 TB Samsung T7...and you can record raw to a V60 card with 8:1 compression or 12:1. I think it could push you narrative to another realm of poetic colors and really help the overall appreciation... Just an advice I am also all manual exept for my S5iiX with télé 70-300 for live coverage...
