I've had the Panasonic sd60 and just upgraded to the v700 for my video and I can say that the OIS is really great! Even shots whilst walking are stabalised so that you don't get the 'bumps' of talking steps. This will be a great improvement to your video's to keep people like myself from getting motion sick from your sometimes fast panning videos.

You can get a high capacity battery for it. Makes it a bit longer, but it's worthwhile.

I have Panasonic V700. The image stabilization in Panasonic is AMAZING. I bought V700 not V500 because of the bigger sensor, MIC input and Amazon.uk lighting deal for only 200£

Yes!!!! I too am thinking of a video camera as using a dslr for walk around video is awkward as hell.

Interested to see the footage comparisons with the D4. I'm not 100% pleased with my a99's video from my Nepal trek, especially the IS, plus some rolling shutter problems, but I'm mainly out for stills, not video, and I'm not exactly keen on carting a second device through the jungle and mountains for two weeks. But if it were small enough, cheap enough, tough enough, and good enough, I'd certainly think about it.

looks good MG, you might want to consider a pistol grip for ergonomics. Blunty uses the Photography and Cinema Pistol Grip Camera Handle on his little cam corder.

I've been thinking of getting one of these but I can't justify even the low cost for now. I'm glad you got one though as I enjoy your vlog videos but get a little annoyed by the camera shake. Looking forward to seeing it in use.

How does this do outside? I'm looking for a video camera myself and am very concerned about outdoor screen performance because of my vision. If the screen becomes too washed out then I won't be able to see it at all (versus someone with regular vision who could barely see it in those conditions). Due to this I've been looking at some of the $1,000 cameras, since they're the only type of camera left in the consumer range with an EVF. I'm coming from an 8 year old JVC MiniDV camcorder. Thoughts?

80x zoom is misleading, because OPTICAL zoom is only 50x and the rest is b/s. Such high zoom camcorder without a stabilizer is b/s.
