Great video! I especially enjoy the slideshow at the end. I use the Panasonic, kit version of this lens and even that, is not too shabby. The Leica beats it for its micro-contrast and image rendering. I've used it plenty for professional, event work. But wouldn't use it for professional fashion or portrait work. For travel, if you only want to carry one lens, the 12-60mm is close to perfect. I'm currently saving for the 10-25mm f/1.7 super-lens. Mostly for that aperture. Otherwise the Panasonic-Leica 12-60mm, either version, are fantastic lenses.

Great photo's Andrew. Yes I was also surprised at how good a "macro" lens it is and really enjoyed that aspect during lockdown even though I d'ont normally shoot close ups.

This is the lens I got as my kit lens when I purchased the G9. I liked it so much, I bought its big brother, the 50-200 with the 2x teleconverter. Now I've got from 12-400mm focal length that is extremely easy to pack up and take with me. One of the reasons I like the micro four thirds system so much :)

Hi Andrew, hope your OK? and enjoyed your video. I was very tempted to get this lens too but went for the 14-140 mk 2 fot the slightly extra reach. Stunning photos.

Professionally, I use Leica SL2/3 and Hasselblad X2D in the studio. For some travels earlier this year, I wanted to take something a bit more versatile than an M or Q, which I normally use for personal work. I bought a pre-owned G9 with this 12-60 lens and boy, was I surprised by the quality of the images and the versatility of the combination. Of course there’s a difference with full-frame, but for regular travel stuff, it is surprisingly little. Caught by the M43 virus, I bought a new OM-1 which was the camera (in name) that started my photography when I was 12 back in 1974. I always assumed that the difference with full-frame was too large to justify the purchase, but I was wrong. These cameras are perfect for traveling, wildlife, sports and macro. Highly recommended.

My G9 came with the 12-60mm Panasonic lens. I bought an open box G9 combo kit for 1000.00 US and the G( Leica kit was 1499.00 US. I wanted the Leica 12-60mm, but I could not justify the extra 500.00 US. Thanks for sharing your expertise with us. I used the savings to purchase the 35-100mm F/2.8 Panasonic- which I love.

A nifty wide-angle lens. I'm still using my old Sony A77 for landscape shots with a nice 18-70 Minolta lens which is excellent. I also have another - something like 20-100mm. Last year I shot some butterflies using this 18-70 lens and had the end of the camera lens literally 6 inches away (maybe less as I couldn't see) from the subject and got some great clarity. Any closer and it was a no-go. Your pic at 5:32 very nice indeed. I can see how much you can get into the shot from your pictures at the end of this vid. I agree - definitely a general 'all round' lens. Amazing what you can do with this kind of lens really.

Enjoyed the images and the video as a whole. Andrew, your channel videos and photographs convinced me to buy the G9 with the 12 60 mm f2.8 4 kit lens, also the 100 400mm lens for bird photography. Plan to add a 25 mm prime soon and a macro lens.

In June I bought my G9 & the Leica 100 - 400 lens. I learned that the camera store had a 7 day, no questions asked return policy & on finding the lenses zoom ring to be on the stiff side - & was not loosing up, I returned it. The store brought out 3 new 100 - 400s ( 2 from other camera places ) to try out their zoom rings. I chose the one with the smoothest zoom. I then tried a # of other Panasonic lenses. Being limited budget wise & wanting a good range, all-in-one, weather sealed & fairly light unit, I ended up with the Olympus 3.5-6.3 12-200mm for $800. The G9's IBS works well with the 12-200s lack of one. A friend & I recently went shooting at night at some holiday decoration lights & my Oly lens & G9 got some excellent shots. I'm happy with both lenses.

I'm also quite happy with my G9 and 12-60. I did opt for the the 100-300 and I'm beginning to pine for the 100-400 unfortunately much larger and I'd have to buy some nice gifts for my wife... REALLY nice.

Thanks, very interesting! I also have a 45mm Olympus + Lumix 100-300 for my GX9. Haven't you considered the Sigma 30mm 1.4 - is the aperture and focal length acceptable for portraits?

I believe it would be excellent for portraits but I have not tried it. Very happy with the portrait lens I have for now.

Hi Mate, I hope you don't mind a question. Would this lens manage to snap a kingfisher at about 50 ft or would you need something more substantial like a 100-400 leica which seems another popular lens(beginner :-) )?
@naturesimagephotography Жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry to take so long to reply. With this lens the kingfisher would need to be just a couple of metres away. You definitely need more reach for bird photography. I use the Leica/Panasonic 100-400mm and you can see the results in many of my other videos. A lot of people swear by the 100-300mm which is cheaper, but I've always been happy with the 400mm which was the first lens I bought with this camera. For the 12-60mm, think landscapes, portraits and even close-up as it can get to near-macro range. But not powerful enough for small birds at a distance.

When you've been using MFT for a long while you collect a raft of MFT lenses. The PL 100-400 must be the best ever wildlife lens combined with the G9, the insane Dual2 stabilisation allows it to be hand-held at full length. Dual2 is only a great benefit with the longest lenses, below that Dual-IS is more than adequate. Although they only give me Dual-IS not Dual2 I shall not be rushing out to buy a Leica 12-60 because I have the older model 12-35 f/2.8 and the 35-100 f/2.8, both of which are "world class" (whatever that means). I tend to use the 35-100 more often than the 12-35. The longer lens does have a shallower DoF, you just shoot from further away. Above X3, zoom lenses become compromised. The Oly 45 f/1.8 is a must have but it is quite ancient and works best on an Oly. And the pancake 20mm f/1.7 (old but the exif says it's a Leica). Other lenses to consider - the X10 super-zoom 14-140 (Dual2), the 45-200 II (Dual2), the 7-14 (it doesn't fisheye, when you need 8-10). With MFT lenses we are spoilt for choice. Consider long and hard and research before making a choice. And used lenses are cheaper.

Hello! Thanks for your videos, i like them alot! I have a question though. With the G9 can i instantly start another recording after i reached the 10min time limit on 4K60fps? Or has it like a cooldown?
@naturesimagephotography3 жыл бұрын
I have to be honest...I have never shot 4K video and I have never shot 10 minutes of video in a single shoot. So I can't answer your question from experience. It may depend on the speed of your SD card. However can I suggest you join this group on Facebook (if you haven't already) and ask your question there. It has some members who seem to know all about video...a lot more than I do anyway. facebook.com/groups/PanasonicG9/

Great video, what made you go for this over the Olympus 12-40 Pro? I like the extra focal length of the Panasonic but I prefer the image and constant aperture of the Olympus, so am interested in your thoughts. I am mainly a still photographer with my G9.
@naturesimagephotography3 жыл бұрын
With this lens I really wanted a genuine general purpose lens, for times when I wanted to carry just one camera and lens instead of a whole bag full of gear. So this purchase was mainly about versatility.
@paznit3 жыл бұрын
@@naturesimagephotography Thanks so much for your note. Did you consider the Olympus? It would offer the same function as an "all purpose". I am just interested to compare notes more than anything. What "won" it for you with the Panasonic? Thanks again and amazing content!
@naturesimagephotography3 жыл бұрын
No I didn't look at the Olympus for two reasons. I always favoured Panasonic because that gives me access to the dual stabiliser. Given the choice between having it or not having it, I would rather have it. And the 12-60mm was offered to me at a great price so I made a rather snap decision to grab it, as I had been thinking of getting it anyway.

I have a CPL filter that fits this lens and keep it in my camera bag. I don't use it often but it's there when I need it. I don't use ND filters, I have in the past but they don't interest me much these days.
