Panasonic GX80 How to Change PAL 25P/50P to 30P/60P 4K
In this video I show how to change the frame rate of the video modes on your PAL GX80 from 25P / 50P to 30P / 60P. When you do this you can record 4K at 30FPS or 1080P at 60FPS on your PAL model camera. Obviously this is done at your own risk although I haven't come across any side-effects.

And when you return the camera back, before be sure to remove the memory card, otherwise it happens that you cannot return it to the factory firmware until you remove the memory card, it may report an error (not always)

I have gx80 too but in the recording quality selection I only have the options like "FHD 28M /50P" , "FHD 17M / 50i" , FHD 24M / 25P" and "FHD 24M / 24P".. no other options. What is the problem and how can I fix it?

After the camera being set to NTSC, I can't connect the camera to my PC. So I initialised it. Now the counter is cleared and it is naming photos and videos from 100-0001. Is there any ways to get the old numbers back?

Thanks for the vid! Now every time I turn off the camera, I have that exclamation mark triangle pop up. Is there any way to stop this happening? The 60p seems to work great, the exclamation mark just freaks me out a little bit is all haha.

This is normal. There's no way to switch it off, unfortunately. Only if you reset the region back to default settings, as shown at the end of the video, you'll no longer see the exclamation mark.

Hello, i'm thinking of getting the G85 from the US simply as it has no recording time limit (my understanding is that due to EU regulations cameras that are not 'video' cameras have this time limit set up). Would I be able to reverse your process to change it to PAL and will it still not have the time limit? thanks so much for putting this video up!

G80 / G85 already has 25P / 50P PAL modes selectable without the need to perform this procedure. So, you can buy a US G85, record video with no time limit, and still shoot 25P.

These are literally the exact steps from the official Panasonic service manual for the GX80, so I don't know why it isn't working in your case.

Maybe its because you switch the camera into a "service mode". So its maybe a safety (that you cannot connect to the PC while being in it). Some also reported, that AVCHD doesn´t work anymore (at least on the older GX8). But as you can still use all the other modes fine, it´s still worth it staying in the service mode ^^. LG

It is necessary to return the camera back to the factory version. The version is listed on the camera box.

They remain there, they only vanish when changing it back. Tested on GX7/8/80/9, and is very likely the case on other models.

Beside not being able to connect to PC, when trying to do in-camera Time lapse, it shuts down with the yellow exclamation mark.

Maybe your firmware is older. IMy PC doesn't recognize the cam with this hack, but the the Timelapse function works fine

Hi Kathryn, I no longer own my FZ1000 but from memory, the procedure is slightly different - set the camera to single shot, then with the camera off, hold down the Disp and AF/AE-L buttons, switch camera on and then release the buttons. If you look on my channel for the video on how to switch the GX8 to 30p/60p, the procedure is the same for the FZ1000.

Under artifical lights you mean? That's normal and has nothing to do with camera malfunctioning. In most european countries the AC electric current alternates @ 50hz while in for instance the USA it's 60Hz. When you video a scene in a 50Hz country under artificial lights using 60 fps, you will see flickering because the camera's fps doesnt sync with the local current's "refresh rate". That's why camera's for european countries use 25/50fps and camera's for USA 30/60fps

If you want to keep the 30fps mode, when shooting with artificial lights switch to 24fps and 1/50 shutter speed, the flickering will disappear or be very reduced.

The G80 already has the option to choose between 25p and 30p. No need for this "hack".

Yes, you're changing the region so the camera thinks it's an NTSC model and therefore you get 30p/60p recording instead of the 25p/50p modes in PAL models.

No. Your warranty remains intact. It's just a setting on the camera. You can always change it back.

It works on my GX80, which also has the latest firmware. This 'hack' is actually in the official Panasonic service manual for the GX80, so it's unlikely that it's something they would remove. Double-check that you're doing everything in the video exactly as I explained it.

Because of stupid marketing. Panasonic wants you to buy the GH4, GH5 or FZ2000 which have free choice of framerates and codecs, so they limit the options on their lower models. With newer ones like GX800 or GX9 you can change the framerate in MP4, but not in AVCHD which has higher audio bitrate. 128kbs audio is not so nice.

This is just a conversation from PAL to NTSC which is no good to us in the UK or those in Europe who's TV standard is SECAM.

No 'conversion' as such it's simply a switch to different number of frames per second. With the increased frame rates you should experience smoother video. All modern TVs can play PAL (25fps) or NTSC (30fps) so no worries about that, unless you are trying to play the video straight from the camera onto a 25 year old CRT TV, and even those may be able to cope with NTSC.

@@harolddasynth795 That maybe due to the indoor lighting, or any artificial lighting. That's being powered by a 50hz mains supply. The lights are in sync to that frequency. So 50hz to 50 FPS is undetectable. At 30 FPS, the camera is sightly faster at recording, so will see the slight light flicker of the 50hz mains supply. Just a guess.

Personally I would not want to change a PAL camera to NTSC. If 30fps in 4k is important then buy a PAL camera that does this like a Sony a6300.

Yes, and then deal with overheating, overpriced and limited selection of lenses and non-stabilised primes in video mode. Oh and not to forget the annoying "Camera is in NTSC mode" warning Sony thinks is sooo important at every startup.
