I'm committed to M43 and really love my GH5, I really hope the GH6 is in the work, I don't want to switch to full-frame unless I have to. My 35-100mm f2.8 lens only weighs 360 grams, no other systems can match that. Fingers crossed

Congrats, this is a great interview. It's great to know that MFT will continue specially for filmmaking. I think MFT is great for video and easier to scale to 8K. MFT allows less camera overheating and more reliability. As creators, reliability is important. Also is important for us being able to filmmaking outdoors with small gear in order to not worry anyone. That's why MFT is perfect. S5 is also promising in studio conditions, so both systems can coexist, each for different use cases. Thanks again for sharing Panasonic agenda with Lumix users.

Fabulous interview. If I read between the lines I think we could be looking for a GH6 sooner than later. The GH5 was/is a fabulous camera with unequaled stabilization in the Panasonic line and feature rich! My hope is the GH6 will be even more profoundly video oriented, with a smaller number of pixels and a larger sensor if possible, like the GH5S---to improve the dynamic range and low light performance. IMO the value of the size of the mirrorless camera has NOT vanished with full frame and higher resolutions and bit rates. Sony seems to understand this, so they have maintained smaller/lighter as a priority in design. I'm glad to see Panasonic remembering this smaller/lighter feature, because it is one thing that constantly attracts people to mirrorless. The smaller/lighter sure makes the S5 more valuable to me than the S1H for much of the shooting I do. Me, personally, as much as I love the S1H and the image, the weight for hand held video shooting is discouraging. So the S5 is a point of great happiness to me. I loved the size of the GH5, the feel, the weight, and the pure joy of shooting. The moment I heard about the S5 I pre-ordered it. Everything I see and learn about it makes me sure it is the ideal camera for much of the shooting I love to do. Two final remarks about the S1 (and the S1H)--- First, for a manual shooter like myself, the vanishing Peaking during recording was a total deal breaker on the S1. When you're shooting manual focus, hand held video you MUST be able to track your subject, and peaking is NOT optional if you are to be successful at keeping things in focus from the beginning to the end of the clip. In addition, the ability to punch in while recording to check focus is an enormous help. Fuji, in addition to having the best Peaking of any camera I've ever used, allows you to punch in at any time and anywhere before or during recording. So does Sony. This is highly desirable for manual shooters. Why isn't it on the Panasonic models?? Second, on both the S1 and S1H the EVF is wonderful, but the diopter adjustment only goes to 3.0---not to 4.0. I actually had to buy a different rubber eye cup and glue on an additional diopter in order to use the EVF. Every other company has a diopter of 4.0. Failure to do this make the EVF unusable for many of us who don't have perfect vision but want to use the EVF without using glasses. If this can be changed it would be wonderful. I had no trouble using the EVF of the GH5. Why was this changed in both the S1 and S1H? I love these camera---but with just these simple, few improvements I would love them a lot more and they would give me much greater ease in use and better video clips.

I am a huge fan of MFT and won't stop using their cameras and lenses, even if they stop developing them. The GH5 is still a beast, even after 3 years and offers great quality for the price. Just because there are better cameras on the market now, it doesn't mean the GH5 is any worse than it was before. The price keeps falling, which imho makes the GH5 a great option for beginners that want to step into the semi-professional segment without breaking a bank. I must say though that I'm a little bit afraid they might abandon MFT in the long run. Yamane san's consideration of a potential GH6 doesn't sound too promising, although he reassured many times that MFT will be developed further. All we got in the past few months was a mediocre G100. Seeing some similar new lenses like the impeccable Panasonic Leica 10-25mm f/1.7 would be great. But then again, Covid-19 might be the reason why we haven't seen any updates on the MFT lens line-up or a GH5 successor. Really hope that they won't abandon MFT... it definitely has a place in our current market. Who knows, maybe the GH6 is just around the corner but they're keeping it quiet to not hurt their sales.

There would be even more hope if he had mentioned that they were actually working on the next M4/3 camera. What I got was that they aren't abandoning M4/3, and may eventually produce another camera for that format "sometime".
@alantuttphotography4 жыл бұрын
@LumixCommunity_com My point was that while he said they planned to continue supporting M4/3, the comment wasn't any more specific than previous comments, and may or may not actually result in a new camera anytime soon. Yes, circumstances are strange this year, yet there are some of us who are ready to upgrade or switch to a new system, myself included. Some M4/3 users are starting to lose faith that the format will continue to be supported, and are seriously considering switching to Sony or Canon with their recent releases. A simple comment that a new M4/3 camera is in development and will be released in the next year would give those users something solid to look forward to.
@alantuttphotography4 жыл бұрын
@LumixCommunity_com I hear what you're saying that MFT users have more doubts about the system. With Olympus selling their camera division to a company that has a history of not continuing to develop the products produced by the companies they buy, this does muddy the waters. This, combined with Panasonic's recent focus on full frame, gives those MFT users even more to worry about. As far as relaxing and enjoying my system, I am not yet a MFT user, but after researching the system for months, I feel it would meet my needs as long as it has a future. Otherwise, there's no reason for me to switch to it, and I'd be better off switching to another system instead. Bottom line here -- I'm not too concerned about what was or was not confirmed in this interview. I was just stating that the idea of "there is hope" is not supported by what was actually said.

I didn’t read micro 4/3rds isn’t being developed. The Panasonic guy said they’re still selling GH5’s and they acknowledge they have a lot of customers using micro 4/3rds. Panasonic just announced the S5. I doubt they’re going to come out and say “oh yea, we’re developing a GH6 so just wait and don’t buy the S5” I wouldn’t be surprised if the GH6 is L Mount tho.

@@sionhannuna5418 While technically true, micro 4/3rds is a sensor size and a lens mount type. So you could have a L-Mount lens on a camera with a micro 4/3rds sized sensor. I hope this makes my previous comment easier to understand.

i don't understand Panasonic approach at all as an S1 user, they release a new camera Panasonic S5 in specs very similar to S1 but S1 is more expensive and I paid for Vlog extra and now we have silence about the ProRes Raw option on S1 but they offered for S5 which cost less money soon. Shall I think its a reward for trusting Panasonic with the first Panasonic FF camera? ;-) I feel like its a punishment for investing in the entire line. for instance I both 5 of them for my company. they killing their own products because it looks like if someone expects good AF will not jump to the Panasonic line anyway. just let you now I love S line camera film look!

Dear Panasonic, If you read this. I understand that the autofocus is not what you are great at and nor a priority to you, but, how is that possible to Launch the Lumix S5 in Q3 2020 packed with so many options of slow-motion, up to even 180fps at such a disappointing bit rate (20 to 28 Mb/s)? It's just embarrassing man. Please make it at list 100Mb/s in S&Q mode in a future update. Wouldn't hurt no one.

Where on Earth are 4K60 camcorders at the ~£600 mark?! I've been waiting for a 4K60 camcorder around this price range for about 8 years now. But every year all any of these companies seems to do is rebrand their 4K30 again! The Sony AX-53 came out very late 2015 / early 2016, which in itself was a refresh of the AX-33. Are Sony really saying they have no better sensor and processor to make a new camcorder in 2020? So what do Sony do? They remove the EVF from the the AX-53, call it the AX-43 and then charge the same price as what you can already pick up the AX-53 for anyway! Why is 4K60 taking so long to arrive at a non-pro price point? Phones and GoPros have been doing 4K60 for years and in many cases have even moved from this to 4K120 and 8K30. When are we going to see Panasonic or Sony bring this to ~£600 price point? HC-VX2 or AX-63? They wouldn't even need to spend that much money developing them either, they could keep the lens and OIS and body and everything else the same, just update the sensor and processors to give us 4K60 using H.265. There is no technical reason they can't, heat has nothing to do with it as I said phones and action cameras have done it for years and have a much tighter power/heat envolope to work within. What annoys me most is all these companies keep crying out that 'phones are stealing all their customers' but then they are so slow to give us new features such as 4K60. Phones come out every single year and move things on significantly every single year, so is it really a surprise customers forget amount them? For my use-case which is filming low league football, handheld, pitch side you do need a proper dedicated camcorder because the image stabilisation is much better on these than it is on a larger sensor mirrorless camera plus the fast electric zooming and super fast focusing is very much needed too. I just wish someone brought out 60fps version because I often need to slow down clips for goals or fouls, a 4K60 version of the AX43 or HC-VX1 would be a perfect camcorder.
