you can use normal vhs tapes on a svhs machine it just records at standard vhs resolution

I have one, and it is still working fine. Only the batteries have seen their best days. I used it for a rockvideo 3 years ago, to get a retro feel. And I used it back in the days, and it was also used by local tv-stations i sweden as "field-cam".

8:33 All older camcorders have the problem with the foam of microphone. Not just Panasonics! LOL. The first SVHS cams came out at about 1987.

Batteries can be charged in the camcorder as well as directly on the power supply.

Panasonic did make industrial S-VHS camcorders (the Supercam series), but S-VHS equipment is often limited to ENG use because of its limited chroma resolution (only 30 lines).

@ProductionsNord Klar sehen die alle fast gleich aus :D Etwa 75% aller jemals gebauten VHS-Camcorder wurden von Panasonic gebaut. Da wurden nur andere Namen draufgeschrieben (Bauer, Metz, Grundig, Philips.....)

Many thanks for you reply , I did read on the net that pro video camers still use tape , ie in studios and fil production , thats why I was interested , tahnk for sharing the model no you used - ,i'm really interested in the white balance - and for filming very close up - whilst still getting a pure picture -which ,I happen to notice may camecorders - either there is a contstant change in solour definition -sometime extreme red tinge , sure I will be watching more of your videos & demos :)

@DrCassette Dass die Kamera kein Stereo kann, wusste ich noch gar nicht. Wenn ich das Schleifproblem in den Griff kriege, wird sie für ein Amateurfilmprojekt verwendet, da wird der Ton ohnehin nochmal extra mit Richtmikrofonen in Stereo aufgenommen. ;) Was ich gut finde, ist, dass es ein sehr gutes Service-Manual mit allen Schaltkreisen und Bauteilen gibt und einer Anleitung zum Auseinandernehmen. Das erleichtert Reparaturen enorm. Habe auch noch eine defekte MS90 hier, da gibts keins :(

Hello. I have the exact same camera. Still works. But I need to find the adaptor to power the camera. Anyone know what the adaptor is called, also where can I find/buy it. I want to play the vcr on this camera. I don’t own a vcr player. And I can’t even find one to buy. Thanks

@schmatzler Meine Kamera hat auch noch ein paar mechanische Probleme, sie mag nicht zuverlässig laufen. Da ich sie vor allem als "Nur-Kamera" benutze, ist das aber OK. Wegen der besseren S-VHS-Auflösung ist sie auch heute noch gut zu verwenden, der Bildsensor hat schon fast so viele Pixel wie ein normales Digital-Video-Bild. Die Kamera wurde damals auch vom Fernsehen oft als Zweitkamera verwendet. Was mich stört, ist, dass kein HiFi-Stereo-Ton aufgenommen wird, sondern nur Linear-Mono.

Ich auch :) Bin leider nie dazu gekommen, da mal eine SVHS-Cassette reinzustecken und was zu filmen... ich habe sie ein paar mal als Studiokamera verwendet (also von der Kamera in den PC ohne Umweg über SVHS). Auf KZbin gibt es / gab's mal ein Testvideo, das zeigte die Qualität ganz gut.

@schmatzler Ja, wenn man den Ton separat aufnimmt und dann nachsynchronisiert, ist das natürlich kein Problem :D Eigentlich gibt es für alle höherpreisigen Produkte Service-Manuals. Die Hersteller werfen damit bloss leider nicht so um sich, deswegen sind die recht selten. Bei der MS90 würde ich mir keine großen Hoffnungen machen, die wird wahrscheinlich defekte Kondensatoren haben, und das reparieren zu lassen kostet wahrscheinlich mehr als ein neuer Camcorder...

Der Sensor der MS-1 ist eigentlich sehr robust, die Ausfälle in den CCD's hat Sony erst in den späteren Jahren mit Consumer-Camcordern geschafft. Allerdings kann es durchaus sein, dass bei deiner Kamera schon einige Elkos das Zeitliche gesegnet haben. Meine braucht so ca. 30 Sekunden bis das Bild stabil wird, da ist langsam auch Tauschen angesagt. Entweder intern messen mit einem ESR-Meter und wechseln oder gleich alle tauschen, das wäre das Beste. Servicehandbuch kann ich dir schicken :)

do you know how to charge batteries with this camera? is it only with an external charger? i just ordered one, and i am afraid i might be missing the charger and want to know if i can get away with the power adaptor.

@DrCassette Das habe ich mir bei der MS90 auch schon gedacht. Hab auch schon einen Großteil von den Elkos nachgemessen, die sehen aber alle okay aus. Bin da langsam mit meinem Latein am Ende und irgendwie lohnt die Mühe dann auch nicht mehr. Die MS-1 läuft jetzt aber wieder! War ein bisschen Dreck im Capstan-Motor. Saubergemacht, neu justiert, Schleifen ist weg :) Alte Technik ist doch was Feines. Kann man wenigstens noch selbst reparieren.

It depends. If you are using a standard definition SD card camcorder, a MiniDV tape camcorder is better. If you are using a high definition cam, it will be better than any tape based camcorder. However, it's going to be all better than this old S-VHS camcorder. Digital is better than analog, at least when it comes to video. This video was recorded using a Sony HDR-SR11E HD camcorder (but downscaled to 480p).

Habe eine solche Kamera aus einem Nachlass bekommen. Auf dem Sucher sind die Anzeigen der Kamera zu erkennen, jedoch kein Bild. Ich als bastler und videonerd würde sie gerne wieder fit machen, habe aber in dem fall überhaupt keine ahnung, außer das der ccd sensor kaputt sein könnte. Kennt sich wer damit aus?

Habe vor Kurzem so eine Kamera auf Ebay erstanden. Ist voll funktionsfähig und macht tolle Videos - allerdings gibt es bei der Aufnahme ein lautes Schleifgeräusch. Mal sehen, ob sich das fixen lässt.

Yes, any S-VHS device can record standard VHS to standard VHS cassettes.

Der S-Video - Anschluss ist an der Kamera, einen normalen analogen Videoausgang gibt es an dem Netzteil.

Thanks really enjoyed this video - I used to sell these years ago -, I was looking at some of the old tapes -and noticed the picture quality was outstanding- very natural light , I'm thinking of getting a new camcorder - however - I currently use 5 to 8mp hard drive HD pocket camera which is very good BUT is tape better than sd cards ???? and what did you film this with as thats very clear ?? :)

I Have the Same in Pal system Looks and Worked Brand new till I decide to put a Cleaning Tape in that Failed cause there is no End on the Tape so I think the Main Motor Burned. So can I put a M7 Motor ina MS1? The Panasonic M7 have CCD broken Thank you
