I think it's funny that you went on so much about the on-off switch, which is something that would never have crossed my mind to care about in any way… but then you had nothing to say about the fantastic high-resolution EVF, which to me is a major selling point of the S1 and S1R. My S1R (with a Sigma 24mm F2, the only native lens I have for it right now) produces the best image quality that I've seen out of any camera. It nails focus, it nails exposure, the colors are perfect, image detail is startling. My gripe is the same one you noted: It's a behemoth. Even though it has a "small format" sensor, it really is meant to fill the role of a medium format camera. I'm just trying to decide if it's too much camera for me. Also, I really like the multi aspect ratio support, including 2:1 and 65:24 that you don't see on many cameras. I can use it like a digital XPan.

You're right about the EVF, it is fantastic and it is something I forgot to mention. After having used it for a short time I'm now thinking that I should have purchased it, but Panasonic may release an updated version in the near future, fingers crossed. Cheers.

Who said it's large and heavy, not really. It's in opposite very comfortable to grip, all people are different, so for some "uncomfortable" but for others it's ideally comfortable size. I would say that only one con - no dual iso for video (compared to S1). Overall ideal camera, pictures are super sharp, autofocus is very good, menu light years ahead of Sony, customization, CFexpress way faster AND cheaper than UHS II. Really most underrated gem! If no anticipated version 2, I would still highly recommend it even in 2024 for photography. Pictures from it like ready to front cover of top world level magazines. Love camera, quality and.. size/grip

And second mini con, not related to the camera itself, not good battery grip (a bit loose)

Regarding on/off as well very questionable. I had it from preorder, so using from the first day and in all these years never had issues or discomfort to turn it on and of with one hand. Heard that complaint before, but realy not a problem

Don't get me wrong, I love the camera but I was speaking of it against most other mirrorless cameras today in that it is bigger and heavier than most but I still think it's a great camera with a comfortable grip and awesome specs. I like it better than my S5 in a lot of ways but I don't own the camera, I had it on loan for the review. Thanks for your comments, much appreciated. Cheers.

@@unpaid_review I've not had use of the battery grip for it, just the camera. Cheers.

@@unpaid_review It's just in an unusual spot as most manufacturers have the on/off switch around the shutter button which I prefer, would not put me off from buying it , I would love to swap my S5 for a good used S1R. Cheers.

"Can do 4k 60 frames per second, that's for 2019 camera is not too bad" - c'mon, it was THE FIRST EVER FF camera that can do 4k 60, no others camera can at that time (might only broadcast level $$$$$). And it can record 6k now

Hey I like the camera and think it has great specs especially for 2019, it's all I need in a camera really, I have Arthritis in my hands and carrying it around for long periods of time makes my hands ache, that is why I think it's a bit heavy, still want one though. Cheers.

Just bought it 6 months ago. Fab evf, great image quality, cool ergonomics. With the current amount of available lenses of panasonic and sigma, as well as lower price, this tool enjoys its second youth. My wife is very happy 5o shoot macro with it.

Cool, the more I think about it the more I think I should have purchased this camera when I had it out on loan for this video. I'm pleased you like the camera, that EVF is very good alright. Cheers.

Oh, man "this camera didn't ship with a charger" NOT TRUE, might you didn't have a retail? It was 2018. Time when everything were right.... And it's not your (and mine) S5ii (s5 original came with a charger). I was 100% sure that I have a charger, checked on "what's in box" specs ans I'm right. Mostly charge with usb, but if you have two batteries it's must have and included

I think that the first cameras with "no charger" B.S. are s5ii and s5iix. I hate that "no charger, but same retail price" scams themes. Before all Panasonic's cameras had a charger.

This unit I borrowed from my local camera shop from the 2nd hand cabinet and it didn't have a charger with it, yes my S5 came with a charger but good knowing it can be charged with USB-C as well. Cheers.

@@unpaid_review It's just cost cutting, wouldn't really cost them that much I'm sure but that seems to be the trend nowadays. Cheers.

@@pictureworldphotography BS trend though. Self cost of charger is couple bucks, but they wanna charge extra on top. The same even on package, probably you didn't see original package of S1r and S1, this is luxury box, like gem inside. In S5ii it's like a cardboard from toilet paper. But cost almost twice of S5 original and close to S1. Hate that.... but BS trend for sure, for example nintendo wii was a masterpiece retail box, nintendo switch is like wrapped in a toilet paper. Quality of everything going down, down, down...... (but cost to the end user the same amount) 🤬

Wife's comment: the camera is nice, but too heavy for my hand and the grip is a bit too large for me to hold it comfortably.

Thanks for posting this. I've been watching a lot of S1r stuff lately.. I have an S5 which I mostly got for video because I was tired of waiting for a GH5 M4/3 successor. I have cobbled together a few of the Lumix S lenses as well as some Sigma EF Mounts and I bought the Sigma adapter for EF to L mount. The idea of the high resolution sensor was of interest to me from the time this camera was announced, but the $4600 USD price tag with the 24-105 scared me off. Right now you can pick this setup for 2500 or less.. Way cheaper than medium format. Very tempting! Thanks again!!

Yes it is a nice camera, takes beautiful photos and very capable in the video department as well. Like I said in the video, it is a bit on the heavy side though, glad you liked the video. Cheers.@@clintjohnson5914
