Was within my r6 mk2 return window and did just that! S5 ii preordered with the 20-60 for less than r6 body. And the fantastic sigma lenses are great value compared to the value RF lenses. Glad to be back to Panasonic, started the journey with a gh4.

@@davidaltizer loving it still! Currently on a trip and installed some phantom luts to test out. Footage is filmic with sigma glass 👌🏽. Can’t wait to look at it on a monitor when I get back and put something together! Autofocus keeps surprising me how reliable it is, compared to my previous canon and Sony. Crazy to think a Panasonic camera has pdaf!

The L mount lenses are overpriced compared to the RF lenses. The 20-60 is a slow, kit lens for $600. Seriously? The RF 24-105 variable aperture is $200 cheaper. The cheapest L mount lens is a $400 50 f/1.8 which is absurd. Canon's 50 f/1.8 is only $170. The Panasonic 35 f/1.8 is twice the price of the RF version and the RF has IS. Dont even get me started on the laughable Leica prime prices that START at $5,000. Hard pass.

WB lock is cool, also if you watch a Richard Wong video, he has the S5II A74 R6II on a bracket, and in sunlight you can see the S5II rear screen - the R6II is dim and the A74 is barely visible

Japan is a lot of fun hehe. Are there any settings to reduce the strength of IBIS? Or is it only ON and OFF? Also, do you know if S5 II records gyro data so we could stabilize the footage in Gyroflow? Because from what I see so far, the warping at very wide angles is too distracting.. I wish it was possible to control IBIS strength.

Yes there are three levels of stabilization. I prefer ibis on with e-stabilization turned on. They tuned it well with the recent firmware to have less wobble in the wide angles compared to what you see here in Japan. It’s certainly miles ahead of canon. They don’t record gyro data as far as I’m aware unfortunately.

Hi :) Truly excelent review mate. Regarding the awb lock: does it mean that you can start shooting with awb (which is often accurate enough) and then lock it for the rest of the shot? i mean, you dont have to set it before you start shooting, right?

Yes exactly! The camera is adjusting the WB automatically and as soon as you hit record it locks it! So it doesn’t shift all over the place as you film. Once you cut recording, it starts doing auto white balance again. It’s really amazing!

Just depends on your budget! I do think the c70 is the better camera in terms of image quality and having built in ND is nice… but the image is great on the lumix, the ibis is amazing and the fact that it’s full frame, much smaller, and has an EVF makes the LUMIX a bit more useful for me. Though I’d be sad to lose the C70 because I still prefer the look of the sensor

Great choice! I personally use the canon speed booster and the 16-35mm f2.8 for 90% of my shots. However, I’ve often considered selling the package and buying the amazing 15-35mm 2.8 RF IS. I do love the speed booster because i prefer the extra light I get with it, but don’t love the EF lenses. But for me 16-35mm f2.8, 24-105mm f4 is, and 70-200 f2.8 Those three lenses do it all. I tend to keep the 16-35mm on my camera 90% of the time. But that’s also my “KZbin” style

Focus breathing is fine! I just don’t like how big they are and the autofocus isn’t “as” good as RF, though the 16-35mm f2.8 iii is one of the more recent EF lenses. They are bigger and heavier and older. That’s all.

As the only real difference ( photography only for me ) is the focus points and slightly better battery over my S5 I won't be upgrading for a while. Especially as I have only had my S5 for just under a year. But it's good to know Panasonic is upgrading the camera. Thank you for the video.

I’m mainly an architectural photographer so the kit lens has been perfect for me, plus its the first full frame camera I have owned since I started photography 5 years ago.

However you do risk getting a strike. Just Don't get 3 in 90 days lol

I don’t have a Canon or Sony to switch from, but I have decided to replace one of my BMPCCs with an S5IIx and call a halt to any more investment in the Nikon Z Mount. For stills I will continue to use my Z9, but I’m ready to have a lighter, more compact system with autofocus for filming. I’ve always appreciated the way Panasonic leads with video (including the design of lenses with very limited focus breathing) and treats stills more as the side-car, but contrast detect kept me from taking the plunge. But I think the S5IIx will take an important place in my kit. I just wish Sigma would get more of their lens line designed to control breathing. Because of that, the native lens line doesn’t feel very complete. Hopefully phase detect will finally grow their full frame hybrid business to the point where they can expand the lens lineup further. We video shooters are tired of dealing with primes lenses that “zoom” during focus pulls!

Yes EF lenses work really well but correct… slow shutter for photos. Panasonic is aware and is working on it. Video performance though isn’t an issue. Works a treat.

I’ve been shooting Sony apsc since 2012 and besides the ginormous Sigma 16mm f1.8 there’s no good wide and small vlogging lens for Sony… I assume the 20mm-60 f4 on the Panasonic is wide enough and stabilized and even though the camera is bigger than a FX30 once you include the lens both systems are similar big

@@davidaltizer I shot Canon for 5 years and the last 6-7 I've shot with Sony. The reason I have stayed with Sony is autofocus, dynamic range, and lenses. The S5ii looks super cool but I don't know if it's enough to make me switch from Sony. I did recently buy a Fujifilm x-e4 to play around with. I love how Panasonic keeps pushing the price down and features up! Finally has decent autofocus! If they want to stay in the game then it's about time. ha

YES! That is confirmed by Panasonic. They will be adding phase detect to everything. DPReviewTV just posted a video today about that very point.

When Panasonic brings PDAF to the new cameras, it means the pre-PDAF cameras will drop even further in price, making them even more affordable to late adopters. But it is definitely exciting that Panasonic will bring PDAF across the board. So cool to see you in other creator's videos of the Japan launch.

Everyone is doing reviews about the s5ii, comparing it with other cameras (which I appreciate a lot) but the question here is... Are Panasonic lenses better than the Sony ones? Since the best investment are lenses because we will stay with them in a long-term period of time this is my question. I am almost going for an s5ii but the lenses choice is something I would really appreciate to see from you (proffessionals) and something that I think would help us to decide! By the way, congratulations on your video and thank you for giving us your point of view :)

There are some great breakdowns on this, but basically if you are a video shooter, the LUMIX lenses are fantastic. Next to no focus breathing and all the f1.8 primes are the same size. That being said, Sony has way more options, but LUMIX has all the Sigma options too. Not to mention EF lenses seem to perform beautifully on it as well. I'm happy with the switch and love these little primes from LUMIX

I’m an starter video shooter so I though I could go with the Sigma 24-70 f2.8, which I believe it’s quite the same to the panasonic for half the price, but maybe I look up 2 or 3 prime lenses instead so I could have the same ND filter.

No it's not! But it is certainly better as a hybrid shooter than any of the Canon hybrids in my opinion... even more appealing to me than the R5C.

isn't ironic that this Cheapest camera has the best anti shake and Auto focus combo for film and TV work. reliable and stays cool codecs for film and TV work Doesn't overheat, has the most stable image in the world Not heating up on the job and never shuts down at work great stills, pro waveform, First to do baked in Luts. loved by the top film makers. thanks for sharing

Really like panny color tone, it's pleasant, calm and smooth but not color accurate, like the black has whitish noise/grain making it dull black(?)

Ya I guess it's a bit of a lifted black isn't it? I dont know. But ya it's pleasing. Was using the "nicest 709" LUT as a base.

SD cards! Depends on what format you’re in but I use basic UHS-II SD cards. Nothing crazy fast needed but obviously the faster the better.

Imo, L-mount alliance has one large problem. I'm living in central Europe and here We have really low lens access. Shops don't offer every existing lens for this System. For example, "cyfrowe pl" has 12 lens, and anyone of those isn't what I want to own for my requirements. If I choose Sony I'll be able to choose from 200 available lenses.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. They had a lot of confidence to bring so many creators out to test it. It performs really well for a first generation AF and not only that... it does better than Fuji, Nikon, Olympus IMO

When i saw that they flown so much Sony and canon users to Japan...I knew the marketing guys had a huge pair of balls, if the af was not working, it would have totally ended panasonic as suddenly you would have 50+ videos: "Panasonic pdaf, 5 years late to the pary LOL". One of the reason I went with the original s5 is because of how centric it is to us videographers that use cinema glass to have insane colors and dr/waveforms/luts at an insane price, also no one is talking about its low light capabilities in taking photos ;) how you can recover up to 3.5 stops in the shadows while nikons is stuck at 2.5 stops etc.

Well I didn’t even know that was an option for recovery! Most of us are stuck using jpeg because Lightroom doesn’t support the raws yet. Yeah it’s an amazing camera and I’m stoked to use it!

I saw that s5ii have way better lowlight than the og s5 from reviews, sometime beating the king > a7s3 /fx3 too

Yes, definitely. I cannon R6 Mark 2. Takes like one to 1.5 seconds longer to focus on the face in video than a Panasonic S5 Mark II

Now give us great IBIS (already do) the S1H flip/tilt screen, AND internal ND's (don't care if it's big) and I'll sell my Sony A7siii (or just use it for astrophotography)..
