Hello Anthony, You forgot to mention that this camera doesn’t overheat and also has no video recording limit. You could also mention the Leica color science in this camera. There are very affordable prime lenses for both photo and video. Additionally, this camera inspires me to go out and shoot, testing both photography and videography. I can just hold it in my hands without reason as well-it just looks very cool. There is a tracking mode (eye, face, body) for photography now with the new firmware update. Imagine having a camera so good, that the core gripes are around the colour of the text markings on the body and an EVF on/off switch that can be disabled in the menu...and that's really about it. So here's what this video is actually about: Image quality? Excellent. Dynamic range? Excellent. Professional features & tools? Excellent. Ergonomics? Excellent. IBIS? Beyond excellent! Price point? Beyond, beyond excellent! Simply put, there is simply nothing from either Canon, Sony or even Nikon that matches the insane value proposition of the S5II & X. Fuji & Blackmagic come close though.
@LoFiAxolotl
@LoFiAxolotl 26 күн бұрын
we're at a point in technology (have been for like a decade) where there really is no improvement in image quality anymore... and we've got ergonomics figured out as well.. that's why camera manufacturers are scrambling to put in (mostly useless) features into their cameras to make us buy them while driving up the price... look at the Sony A9iii... features nobody ever would need out of the wazoo for $7000... Panasonic said screw that and other than the real time LUT there really aren't any features beyond what 90% of photographers actually need which allowed them to keep the price at $2000 Add to that that their Firmware updates actually meaningfully improve the camera and add features that they release on newer cameras... plus L-Mount now having the largest selection of lenses (and more to come with more and more brands signing up) makes this incredibly attractive... plus Panasonic is about to announce new cameras in the coming weeks

Hi Anthony, great, great video. You catched the idea of Lumix really good. Just two additions: LVF-button is really seldom used, but you can customize this button with every other function. For example power on the WLAN. And with LUTs: You can save different LUTs in "My photo style" (10 slots available) to work with them like with every other preset. And yes... please do a comparison of the S5II(x) and all cameras in your arsenal. And some other things I really enjoy using the S5II: Colors are the best in town 🙂, the gimbal-killing IBIS and the possibilty to have a almost 4x crop when filming FHD and switch to pixel/pixel and you hardly see any difference to the uncroped picture.

I’m not really big on Panasonic but the S5IIX does look like a great hybrid camera. Some Nikon and Fujifilm models also feature the LVF like button and I honestly prefer it that way. There were times that I needed to check critical focus before a shot and if I had to fold the screen in and out every time it could be a little cumbersome and annoying. Also I’ve never been a fan of the new telescoping design of Canons more expensive zoom lenses. I prefer internal zoom after being out on a nature walk with my lens extended and a branch slapped the camera out of my hand, landing on the lens and completely ruining an expensive lenses zoom function. I have dropped internal zoom lenses and the most I’ve ever had happen was a dent or damage to the filter thread. So if I had to pack a slightly larger bag for a more reliable and resilient lens, I’d happily do so. Nice video

I'm a Lumix shooter, I was trained on the GH4 and now use the G85 for everything. I personally find that the color science and entire way the cameras are designed fit me better. I've used Sony, Canon, and very briefly, Black Magic. The S5iiX has been a camera I've had my eye on for a while, and I've heard so much about it at this point. This is the first time I've heard about the night vision feature! Super stoked for that as someone who shoots in low light a lot. I'm curious, one of the only features I haven’t seen anybody talk about is the S&Q mode for this camera. Obviously its easy to shoot in 60P, but, with an embedded mode in the camera, I'm really curious to see what that looks like!

Great review! My take on the lumix s5iix is that it’s not really geared towards the beginner filmmaker/photographer. The s5ii has the non blacked out dials and logo, and has 95% of the features that the s5iix has, so that one would be the ideal for beginners. This camera is basically for lumix shooters looking to upgrade to a newer body that has the bells and whistles while giving you a really cool look, or a seasoned professional that is ok sacrificing a little functionality for a cool looking high end camera. But that’s just my take 😁

I love my s5II but the bottom line why they are able to offer so much for so little comes down to the lack of slow motion. The camera is best when shooting 30fps or below. when you go to 60fps 4K automatically crops to APSC and while it will not auto crop at 1080p 60-fps full frame you do lose the PDF Auto Focus unless you go to APSC. The 3.0 adds improved AF and IBIS(With Crop) as well as proxies and Frame IO uploads but it does not fix the limitations over 30fps. Bottom line for people that shoot 24 or 30fps this is gonna be like a Sony FX3 but if you are shooting over 30fps it is more like a Sony FX30. PS: if you can get past the 1.45 crop the new IBIS is like a gimbal. It is magical I use a Sigma 14-24 and in full frame with the IBIS on High it crops to a an equivalent of a 20 - 35 full frame lens

I bought a second hand Panasonic S1R with a 1221 shutter count, for £1469. Which to me was insane value. I bought it to use with my manual lenses, as I was tired of my Zeiss lenses hiding in my camera bag all the time, and using the EVF and LCD makes focusing so much easier (which it is). So far I have been really impressed with the camera. The button placement feels perfect for me as a Nikon/Fujifilm shooter. If I was going to criticise Panasonic, I would agree that the Panasonic zoom lenses are heavy. I decided to buy a 70-200mm for studio use, and the Panasonic 70-200mm f/2.8 is a non starter. The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 is lighter, but for me was a non starter, as I swore never to buy another Sigma lens 16 years ago, after issues with 2 of their lenses). So I decided to buy the Panasonic 70-200 f/4, which weighs 985g, over 575g less than the Panasonic f/2.8 and 360g less than the Sigma. This has exposed me to Panasonics contrast detect AF system, which is interesting (the S5IIX has Phase detect). So, when testing in the shop, the contrast detect worked extremely well, but when I got home I found it to be a little more quirky. Certainly, when focusing it much prefers a contrasty subject. When focusing on my black camera bag, it did struggle, though finally got there when I focused on the zip. I haven't had a chance to try the human or animal detect AF, and I haven't found a eye detect autofocus, which has my head scratching a little. Panasonic has not released a firmware update since 2021, for the camera, which has surprised and disappointed me a little. With companies like Nikon and Fujifilm often releasing new firmware a few years later for many of their cameras. The S1R, is not perfect but I am really enjoying the camera, and I would imagine Panasonic will soon be releasing the S2 and S2r at some point with the S2r having the 60mp sensor from the Leica, and probably a combination phase/contrast detect AF.

On the 'packable' note: The Sigma 28-70mm 2.8 on this camera has an incredible value proposition - I have it on the regular s5ii and the size of that Sigma lens is shockingly small with incredible image quality. I also use the R6 and C70's, so I'm familiar with the RF lenses, they're almost too good, but at the cost of being the tanks that they are (outside the 70-200, somehow that's shockingly reasonable in size). I haven't tried all the Lumix primes, but the 85mm has been good and again, the size and weight is really impressive. Lastly, the Sigma 45 2.8 might be one of the best walk around, small kits you can have on the S5 and it lacks little in IQ, with beautiful "Micro-contrast" mixed with that Leica color science [chef's kiss].

If you enter the "PHOTO STYLE" menu, you can see you can save up to 10 custom presets. This can be made using whatever default profiles it comes with the camera, including "REAL TIME LUT". This was in the camera since the release. You wanted an update with at least 5 custom profile pictures, and Lumix thought about it already, and delivered 10 customizable profiles.

I went back to check just now and figured it out! The camera allows you to configure the "Real Time LUT" Option and save it to 1 of the 10 "My Photo Style Slots" But in order to do that I also had to enable all 10 of the slots under Gear Menu > Image Quality > Photo Style Settings > Show / Hide Photo Styles ☺

Also when i shoot sports the focus will switch focus points and not stay or lock onto the target i want to shoot. While the box is bouncing around I must half press the shutter quickly to lock the focus. I work around it and still get good shots.

As you said in the conclusion, overall lumix is not only a camera for photos, but its a hybrid system that does behave really well in optimal conditions, and also, it has some features that in a camera from another brand would make the price go up in the sky. ps. The S5ii and S5iiX are desgined to also use anamorphic lenses and the IBIS system is the best in business. I and many other users find the fliming/video side of these Lumix models have a load of very good high end video features and no recording limit and an inbuilt cooling fan. Since the new firmware 3.0 they have added a few more features and imporved the Autofocus. The one thing Panasonic could improve on, is to add a low pass filter. The native high end lenses are a bit overly big, although there are other very good smaller prime lenses from panasonic and they also have 3rd party lenese and the Lecia range. For photography, the S5ii is very good (and again Lecia have helped with the colour science) and compairable with other cameras of the same price, but it's clear Panasonic spend more time tweaking and improving the video side of their cameras.

I’m primarily a Video Shooter and I have both the Lumix R5llx and the canon R6ll. In terms of video shooting, the Lumix absolutely destroys the canon. The amount of different codecs that are available is staggering. While I would give the nod slightly to Canon in terms of auto focus, the Lumix isn’t far behind. One thing for me that has been a game changer is the image stabilization. It is simply the best. If I were shooting primarily skills with the occasional video, I’d likely stay with the canon, but for me, the Lumix is a huge win.

Let's stop chasing new cameras and put more work in actually making something that people love. To be honest I've seen channels with millions of subscribers where you can clearly see their video skills are bad but they can present good stories.
