Here I have 2 Panasonic portable CD players to show off. The first one is a model SL-S140 from 1996 that I picked up a couple of days ago for $7 at Value Village in Whitby. This player works perfectly after 24 years, but it has no anti-skip protection of any kind, so you couldn’t go running with it. The second one is a model SL-SX450 from 2005 that I also picked up from the same Value Village last summer for about $6. I actually had one of these back around 2007, and I recall seeing them being sold at Walmart as late as 2008. This one does have anti-skip protection, and it is MP3 CD compatible, but as you might expect for a newer device, it isn’t as high quality as the older ones, but it’s still far superior to the no-name cheap and nasty junk CD players of the time and even today. This one works fine, however, I think the rail and worm screw the laser rides on needs new grease, because it tends to be rather sluggish.

I still use my SL-S360 to listen to old CD's from my high school days. I could play them on my desktop PC but it just wouldn't be the same. Still works great.

I really like the body style of the SLS-140. I just picked up a SLS-241C which is the fully loaded version. Gotta love Panasonic. They made great consumer electronics back in the day.

That's awesome man! You should make a video about it, because I would love to see it. Panasonic is one of the few companies left who still turn out decent quality products in today's world. But obviously, their products of yesteryear were (and still are) far superior, but that goes for every major brand, like Sony, etc.

I used to have that same model. It was manufactured in 1997. It was a great cd player other than not having the shock protection but that was a fairly new feature at that time and was pretty expensive too. The shock protection became alot more common in the early 2000s which made the prices for them go down alot too and that button is for if you were to program the order in which your tracks were played. It would just display the order you programmed.

FYI, the memory/recall button scrolls through the tracks you’ve programmed to play in a certain order while the disc is playing. It won’t do anything if you don’t program tracks before starting playback. Took me forever to figure this out as a kid and I thought my button was broke.

Embarrassingly, I only recently figured out how to program tracks to play in a set order. You have the player stopped, select the tracks you want to play and press the "Memory/recall" button to program each track. It took me 15 years to figure that out.

The memory button, if i recall correctly is for recalling the memory of things needing recalled. Sometimes it recalls things that I've forgotten through it's clever use of memory. My memory isn't very good due to drug and alcohol misuse, I think ? But I'd have to recall where i put my Panasonic to press that button which if i recall correctly is for recalling the memory of things i need to recall ?.. I think... Hope this was unhelpful.

The memory button is used to program tracks to be played back in a set order. I only recently figured out how to do it, as I didn't know how to when I made this video.

No. Just headphone output. The line out tended to be omitted from later models.
