This is the ideal bridge between a notebook & a desktop...the best of both worlds. Too bad the design is relegated to businesses as opposed to mass consumers. Being able to fully & easily customize your laptop out of the box should be the priority standard across the industry. Too many of us consumers prefer cheap, thin, and sealed tech...until its time for repairs.

My kind of laptop. I remember when the apple PowerBook had bays so you could have 2 batteries or 1 battery and a 2nd hard drive or a c.f. DVD drive or keep it empty for lighter weight.
@janicenunn33394 жыл бұрын
Yes I had modular years ago when on the go. Work at home now so not necessary. But I highly recommend even just for extending battery life or the occasional DVD use, for any general use, does not require being on construction site to use.... Love these!

I’m more amazed at people that come to a tech channel are completely clueless that Panasonic Toughbooks exist? They have only been around since forever, in fact I see them every day, every where. I guess you see what you want to see and know what you want to know.
@CleanSC4 жыл бұрын
Lisa, great vid as usual. Just one correction, the backlit keyboard is RGB so green is not the only option. You can change it to any color you like. Open Panasonic PC Settings Utility in the start menu. Mine is currently white. ;) Thanks to being deployed to work from home, my company said "buy a laptop on us" and I got this one. It's a great machine. Not my first Toughbook. They are awesome deals when you buy used ex-police units on ebay. I also have a CF-30 which is showing it's age but it's a TANK and won't die. I chose the semi rugged version this time as I don't work in a crazy environment. I'm not buying into the ultra thin non-serviceable machines. They have bitten me before, never again.

The modularity of this thing is awesome. If only there was a consumer version without the handle and that price tag and with continuous releases of new modules. Sadly 98% of the general consumers aren't into these things so I guess a man can only dream.

They didn’t glue the batteries they are screwed in behind the case so therefore they did not glue them like apple did. The only thing is you have to remove the bottom cover in order to be able to swap out the battery but you can easily do that by unscrewing all the screws on the panel and around the battery and then it’s out no adhesive

Add a swappable keyboard “module” with maybe less water resistance, a track point, and better feel... and an AMD processor... and they’d have a sale here.
@Verpal4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, not using AMD Pro processor cut down on battery life and performance massively, but considering that Panasonic would have to redesign the motherboard for it, perhaps in next generation? I mean, Renoir certainly proofed itself, unlike the lackluster Picasso.

I've been wanting the CF55 since the crustaceous period. Even so, I know it's up for refresh so I plan to hold off. I suspect WIFI6 and 5G with a more robust processor with base graphics similar to or greater than the add-on module.

Looks durable. The swapping of the modular bays seemed like they required screws to keep them in place. I think that is a big negative if you're out in the field the screws would be easy to misplace. Thanks for the review, enjoyed it.

I have an old Toughbook, and I mean OLD like, it has a T2300 Core Duo. And that thing was nearly indestructible. As of now the keyboard finally gave up. It's not particularly useful now in general. But it's still functioning. I would love to get my hand on another one. If I could afford one a Toughbook would be on top of the list for my daily driver. Right now I'm looking for a laptop that can play games. That is affordable and has a display that I can actually look at without hurting my eyes. Seriously what's with all the horrible IPS panels I keep coming across. Worst than regular TN panels.

I WOULD GO for the Dell Latitude Rugged 5420. More durable and quality. Problems I had with the CF-54 / FZ-55 is the front latch breaks and is not quality made. And when you replace it, you have to replace the whole LCD screen because the latch is built into to front bezel and LCD. Internal Battery also does not last. Junk for a pricey laptop in my OPINION.
