This is a really cool idea. It would be cool if the modular nature of this laptop made it's way down to more normal laptops
@BigTylt
@BigTylt 5 жыл бұрын
I mean, I don't see the average user caring about a modular fingerprint sensor or external GPU as long as they can check their email and Twitter. Maybe the long battery life would appeal to people, but swappable batteries are already a thing, even during the curse of the super-light and super-thin Ultrabook.

@@BigTylt yeah, a lot of people just dont want to think about a computer after they purchase it. They just want it to work. I wish more people bought into the idea of making your computer better through modular instead of favoring the convenience of buying a computer and not worrying about how to improve it.

Need is questionable. Some people might benefit but plenty of others would quite literally be weighed down by the extra tonnage for ports and features that have long since become obscure in the consumer space. In truth an SD card reader and USB-A port alongside the now prevalent thunderbolt/ and basic USB-C ports is probably all the extra oomph most people would genuinely appreciate. But VGA ports and disc drives? That’s not really something relevant in 2019 for most people not working in very specific environments which require them due to legacy equipment.

I use the Dell equivalent. It has a handle. You can rest it on its edges if you need to. No fans. The touchscreen is ultra-bright so you can work outside on a sunny day, no problem. And it's so tough you can bash people to death with it if the need arises. Sure it's expensive, but it's also fully repairable. It's really worth it. F**k Apple.

So glad to see these are still around! I've worked on several of the older ones from the XP days, and they were actually pleasant to get into and service. Very seldom were there any issues with the keyboard unless they had something heavy dropped on them. Touchpad failures were fairly common, but not that hard to replace, plus you had the option to ignore it and just use a wireless or wired USB mouse instead. The SSD upgrade is REALLY nice, and the fact that you don't even have to break open the case to get to it, is a definite plus! I would buy one in a minute if I had the extra bucks (and I use mostly Mac these days, although pre-butterfly keyboard and touchbar (2012)).😉

I had a Dell Latitude around 2000 that was somewhat modular. It had two bays, and modular 3.5" floppy drive, CD drive, and battery. You could leave behind what you didn't expect to need, and I believe there was a second battery available, so you could put one in each bay.

I need one of those Star Trek bags (3:40). If it can actually fit a 15" ThinkPad X1 Extreme, then it could be perfect for days where I'm not having to go to the office.

Good review on an arguably nice product. It is a bad days to see that it is tougher and tougher to have versatility in the laptop these days.

what best buy buyer wants to buy a 4.5 pound in 2019? someone who wants a MODULAR, long lasting, durable, multiple resistance, and someone who wants to get the full worth of their investment, the specs alone was enough but it being modular was what took the cake for me. thanks for this vid bro

Precisely. It's the one turn off, but a big one. I've been trying to find ThinkPad alternatives since Lenovo is pissing away the brand, but it seems this won't be it.
@mwbgaming28
@mwbgaming28 5 жыл бұрын
@@AcidTripwire my main problem is battery life, either give me a removable battery or give me an internal battery that can get through a MINIMUM of 3 hours of gaming (full brightness, high performance mode) if I can find laptop battery programming software, I would make a shitload of money making aftermarket battery packs that replace the bottom of the chassis, imagine a Razer blade pro with 12h of gaming endurance and enough cooling that it NEVER throttle, even under synthetic loads

@@mwbgaming28 I bought a ThinkPad e460 a few years ago and let me tell you, I've completely regretted it. The only thing it has going for it is the above-average keyboard - the screen is dogshit, the (built in) battery is absolute dogshit, the build quality is subpar. Doesn't really deserve the ThinkPad label. Seems from looking around that my only option right now is upgrading to one of the T-series
@mwbgaming28
@mwbgaming28 5 жыл бұрын
@@AcidTripwire even with the T-Series of ThinkPads I wouldn't go beyond the T440, the T420/T420S has the best keyboard of them all and is probably the best "all rounder" of the bunch if you want to keep that legendary ThinkPad build quality And modularity

We use Toughbooks at work, usually when I carry mine all the time by the handle and it’s comfortable. I work in rain, shine, cold, knocked and bumped, and in contact with the sorts of fluids that go in an airplane.

I love this concept! It amazes me how no one has done this before, _and yet this isnt even marketed to the general public?_ its uses for work applications are obviously endless, but consumers that live on laptops would love such freedom The only thing i love more than that are palmtops Id love if they became more mainstream, but for some reason they seem to only be used for _gaming,_ which seems counterintuitive

I have used multiple tough books, genteks, and the Dell XFR miltary issued laptops. Aside from the weight they were good computers that took a lot of abuse and kept right on going. I'd almost lean more that direction my self especially with the modular options.
