Your ceramic gauze is reflecting heat down on the Trangia causing it to run hotter. Set the simmer ring almost closed and it will creep up to the right temp.

When using butter to cook you should also use a bit of oil, the oil stops the butter burning and gives it more of a non stick property.
@paddlehooked46875 жыл бұрын
I’ve reviewed comments some good tips. I didn’t see any comments regarding seasoning your pan. I think it will really help you out when cooking with hard anodized. Of course lowering the heat to a simmer would help a lot as well. Thanks for the video, I enjoy your “trial and error” style videos. Seems more human than the heavily edited reviews out there.

G'day from the UK, Mark. I don't think the butter is helping you mate! Butter burns far to quickly and at lower temps than say, oil, lard, etc. Using a thin arsed pan over high heat isn't helping the cause either bud! I used to use lard years ago...how I was taught as a youth...and always make my own batter. Nowadays I just use a drop of olive oil for cooking up the perfect pannie. All the best to you and Nay, Dazza.

This system has been around since 1925. I don't think it would have stood the test of time if it wasn't any good. I don't understand why you need to block the the flame wit your contraption. It's an aluminum pan it transfers heat evenly. I can tell by the vid you could have reduced the flame a bit more for the pancakes. By the way, Trangia offers gas burners for this system. Cheers.

The hard anodised aluminium Trangia pan is actually pretty shit at doing sensitive food items like pancake mix, and they're actually not very good as a non-stick pan. I got fed up with burning things and got myself a cheap 24cm non-stick frying pan from Kmart (www.kmart.com.au/product/24cm-aluminium-4-layer-non-stick-frypan---wood-look/1897862 ) for $13 and it fits nicely over my Trangia 27 set in my bag. It rests pretty nicely in the flipped up pot-rests and never burns anything I'm trying to cook.. As an added bonus, the handle screws off real easy with a standard phillips head screwdriver, allowing me to pack it away without the handle getting in the way..

There are so many good advice comments here , you don’t need my two penny worth. I tuned in for the laugh hoping to see another burnt hand vid 😁 - worth watching just to wait for that plateful to skid off the beam and hit the floor. Please keep making these vids, they cheer me up on a rainy day here in England 👍🏻❤️😁🥰😅

I know I'm late, but I just got a trangia 27-3 HA and I'm mesmerized by this video. I've been cooking on it for the hell of it on my off and I love this thing to death. First , having a non-stick fry pan pays big dividends . Second, mating the simmer ring to the burner on high simmer pays even bigger dividends,(less burning) cheers mate...
@77goanywhere4 ай бұрын
When using anything other than true non-stick, heat up the pan until a few drops of water "dance" in the pan, then add your butter or oil, and take off the heat. This will "glaze" the pan and prevent anything from sticking.

G'day from South Oz! I stumbled across your channel on the weekend and have been enjoying watching your vids. I have recently bought a Honda Transalp 650 and getting sorted out to start camping / touring starting in SA and branching out from there eventually. I bought myself the 360 Degrees Furno Stove and Pot Set from Snowy's today hoping it will do its job well, it seems pretty compact which is good. Keep up the awesome work! Cheers.

made hundreds of pancakes on my trangias with the alcohol burner, never had a problem. first off, on a full burner close the simmer ring to at least halfway, fully open is waay too hot.... second, the longer the burner burns the hotter it will get so you need to keep closing the simmer ring as you go along, near the end it will only be open about 1/4 or less. ditch your heat diffuser, it isn't needed. yes, if you use a gas burner you will get more consistent results but that's to be expected as that burner is much more controllable, but not as much fun to use :)
@oldiron71477 жыл бұрын
I newer had those problems with it. But getting the right fuel for it that's is another story when I was down under (20 years ago ) I ended up having to buy a multi fuel burner for it, back in Denmak it worked fine again with the watered down white spirit.
@markgilder77577 жыл бұрын
It's sticking cos the butter is burning. Good effort though dude.
@nedt7 жыл бұрын
Can you try the multifuel burner for the trangier? They call it the "Multifuel burner (750001)". It burns liquids like gas so you could run petrol. Or if you really want gas burner tranhier also have a gas burner.
@todayipaint46672 жыл бұрын
If you do not know how to cook, it is unlikely you will be a success cooking on trangia. For starters, the heat is too high.
@Lulu7404TX7 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more Mark. Since I made the switch to canister fuel system, I don't see the desire to use a liquid fuel system with no flame control. Might as well just cook on the fire. I don't mind carrying the canisters, burner and spork all in my nestled pot system.

Been watching for a while Biker Bits and all - 'Bloody brilliant you Aussie guys ! Loving it- (from a 'POM;) - the out back and the rides you do - I'd love to get stuck in on a dirt road on a bike over there ! - anyway kinda counter intuitive- have you thought about - cast Iron skillet or similar to cook on ? - I'm looking to get a few for outdoors I've heard once seasoned - they ar e good - yes they are weighty but you cannot beat

About your comment about using the gas to heat stuff. the Trangia isn't unpredictable on simmer. maybe you shouldn't burn your food at 100% flame to begin with?
@bendigopipeclub23707 жыл бұрын
I also Have a Trangia but I only use this to cook certain foods ie, soup, stew, beans noodles. I also have the cigarette box stove, plus adapter which I purchased of Marks Biker Bits site I use this as my main cooker, and the firebox as backup, another great vid Mark.

Mate I have a white sperit primus. I find its the best and if I I happen to run out of white sperits I can use petrol from the bikes tank. Admittedly petrol doesn't burn as clean and dirties the under side on the pans and pots. I think your doing such a good job experimenting with all these cooking devices you should give the white sperits primus a go. You will find them very similar to yours butain cooker but possibly more versatile in the way of fuel. Keep up the good work mate love your channel

The only way to cook pancakes on any backpacking stove in my experience is with a teflon pan. I have tried them all. Including your trangia pan. Hard anodized just doesn't do it. Trust me. You need teflon. I use an msr quick skillet on my trangia spirit stove with the simmer ring. It's the only thing that has worked for me when it comes to pancakes. Try it.
@stanl59193 жыл бұрын
For my trangia I have the gas burner for it I think they defo help. The gas burner just slots in to where the alcohol burner goes and the line comes out the hole in the bottom windshield. I think it also regulates the heat better too. 😃 also thoes pancakes look so good
@blacksheep68885 жыл бұрын
Thr trangia also can use gas and can be used in all weather unlike that silly gas stove and trangia has everything you need in it

I feel like alcohol stoves are just good for an ultra light set up and then it's not the Trangia but a soda can stove or a titanium stove under 30g and only for limited cooking applications. Other advantages of the Trangia or any alcohol stove includes low cost of fuel, availability of fuel, low environmental impact and you can take the exacty needed amount of fuel before you start a trip and never end up with a half empty gas cartridge. But they are fiddly stoves with low inconsistent power.
