I love Panchayat a lot. I have watched all seasons and i am looking for more to come. The director has chosen the best artists in these serials. A very very good serial which i can watch many times. I think by now panchayat is watched not only in India but many countries also be it from my country Mauritius. And its fun and very happy to see Syntell back with Achara along to watch Panchayat

DM means District Magistrate. The DM most of the times comes from Union Public Service Commission's civil services exam. The UPSC exam is for the union/central government. But the DM can also be made from the PCS (Provincial Civil Services) which are for the state governments. The one through the PCS to be a DM takes many years. The post of DM is very powerful, next is the SDM (Sub Divisional Magistrate).

Unlike in the US, where districts may sometimes retain the same boundaries, while changing their district numbers, Indian States have a fixed number of regions which is called "Districts" which sometimes increase due to demand of certain regions from time to time. A districts' head is a DM (District Magistrate). In USA, all the States have multiple number of cities, towns, districts and counties while in India not all States have multiple cities. Some have multiple cities while other have only one city but all the States in India have Districts ranging from just 2 in Goa to 75 in Uttar Pradesh. I think District Magistrate is somewhat equivalent to County Administrator.
