Pancho Vladigerov - Variations on a popular bulgarian song Op 3 (горда стара планина)

Some Bulgarian compatriots and classical music lovers may correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is the first time we hear and see the score of this gem and that's even more perplexing if you take in mind Vladigerov is our most distinguished composer and these variations are on a theme of a Bulgarian song that has been our national anthem since 1964. It's absolutely beyond me why there are so few recordings and published scores of one of our national music treasures, Vladigerov. Is it copyright issues, obscurity, negligence,...? I've recently visited the Composers Union Bookstore (which is the only place where Vladigerov scores can be purchased in Bulgaria) to re-purchase a set of collected Vladigerov works I had lost and they told me it was not in print anymore and wouldn't be reprinted due to copyright issues. Go figure.

I'm not 100% sure, but having read about the theme of this piece, it seems to have its own legal restrictions which may have something to do with this piece's relative obscurity. According to Wikipedia, as the Bulgarian National Anthem, it apparently cannot be used as part of another piece of music, which is the case with this piece. If that's the reason these variations are out of print in Bulgaria, that's pretty unfortunately (and seemingly a little unfair, as it really doesn't seem like it was the national anthem at the time of writing). In spite of this, you can still easily find the score on the internet available to download for free.
