Pancreatic Cysts: Diagnosis & Management

Patients would not have to go look on the internet, if (some) Arrogant Doctors would spend 5 minutes with them. I was told that I had a 5CM Mass on the head of the pancreas, and the Doctor told me that it was too inflamed to repeat the CT, for another look. No one advised me of the changes in diet that I should make. I was sent home with severe pain, managed by 6 tablets of low dose morphine ( they didn’t last ), and told to come back to the ED, if pain increased, or vomiting continued. I realize that I had acute pancreatitis, but there needs to be more communication between doctors and patients. Even a pamphlet with that information would have given me something!! My repeat CT is scheduled for 8 weeks from the date of the attack, and I’m still in pain, although not as severe.

The VA finally did a CT of my abdomen after years of me telling them I felt like something was inside my adbomen that shouldn't be there. The CT shows a 3x2.3x2.1 cm hyperattenuating mass in the tail pancreas, Severe diffuse hepatic steatosis and hepatomegaly, Gallbladder appears partially contracted, and Small nodules measuring up to 3 mm within the lungs. They've scheduled an endoscopic with biopsy for tomorrow and a MRCP with and without contrast in two more days...but they won't tell me ANYTHING! I've spent the last three weeks researching the terms listed...I have no one to ask about this, they won't say anything at all. Oh, I found out that they found this stuff not from my doctor, but from the schedulers...they called to get these procedures scheduled and I had no clue what they were going on about. They were appalled that my doctor hadn't even told me the CT scan results were in or what they found.

I sympathize with your comments. I’ve had to research on the internet to understand the medical terms describing these findings. I’ve found that knowing some basic information goes a long way not only for me to understand and feel better that I know what is the situation but also gets me more attention from the doctors. I suppose that doctors don’t expect patients to know and we ought to fully trust them. A close fiend of the family just passed away with pancreatic cancer after complaining for years of issues and never fully investigated the cause. I just had an endoscopy to check on a small pancreatic cyst. I requested the procedure to verify the discovery on an MRI. It turned out to be very small and in an area that’s not concerning. Will monitor in a year with an MRI. This video was very helpful to understand the situation better. I wish you both well in your journey.

They will keep a eye on it ,I had cyst on my pancreas after five years and my consultant decided it was getting bigger so had Wipple surgery in 2022

I had a CT scan and was told I had diverticulitis - I said my pain is up under my rib cage, not down where diverticulitis usually is - then I had another CT scan ordered by my GI Dr and same thing - diverticulitis - I told him the same thing, this is not diverticulitis and he said he knew it was more so he ordered an MRI with and without contrast and two cysts were found - both on the outside of two little branches and both very small - now I am having an Endoscopic Ultrasound in a few weeks to see what is what in there with a follow-up MRI in the new year

1.Are Pancreatic Cysts that tend to be very Painful more so for concerns? 2. Why will it hurt severely at time's then not noticeable at other time's? 3. Why does it bring on regurgitating? 4. Why does it bring on weight loss w/o regurgitating?

My mother in law has been diagnosed 2 months ago with cystadenocarcinoma stage 3. It is located in the tail of the pancreas and it's 2.5cm. She entered a clinical trial called gabrinox. Continue smoking and drinking some wine ,very emaciated and has diarrhea at least 3 times a day for the past 3 mont but yet her oncologist says it ok she is going to be OK even so cured in few months. We feel like she' s used as a Guinea pig and they are not telling her the truth which is not correct!

The first 3 minutes were wrong, wrong , and wrong. Granted a lot has changed in 6 years. And if I hear one more doctor make fun of doing your own research “dr google” if you will. It just tells me the supreme ignorance of the speaker and negatively affect credibility of subsequent dialog afterword . I can go toe to toe with this win arguments using real life examples. So bottom line, doesn’t believe what this professional idiots tell you. Keep in mind they can be totally wrong as partially right.

Wifey had an MRI last week. Doc says they 'think' they spotted a lesion on her pancreas. Great.

Yes I was diagnosed with a lesion on my pancreasand my CBD was dilated. But I'd had a previous perforation of my CBD and had pancreatitis. I don't know yet because now I need a CT with contrast but normally they are benign.

My mom has a few pancreatic lesions too. Many lesions are benign. MRCP MRI (an MRI specifically for the pancreas) and Endoscopic Ultrasound can give more detailed info. We are monitoring her cysts yearly.

Please don't say CAT scan, it sounds lame to be honest, especially for a radiologist. Otherwise it's a nice lecture.

CAT scan: computed axial tomography. It’s what the scan is called....

3 years ago gastro doc found a lesion on my pancreatic duct. he said I would outlive it. yet other docs reading the report decided I needed a whipple. I am a retired scrub tech. I know what a whipple is. no one wanted to touch the pancreas. yet they want to slice me up. that was 3 years ago. I have chronic diarrhea BUT I'm doing ok.
