Thanks Jane for pointing out some of the things esp as beginner I wish ppl would have told me! I struggle even today with over working my paintings and I know better . The perfectionist inside me sees a spot and needs to try to make it perfect right then that moment ugh🤔🫣 lol ! Also learning that every painting has a ugly stage and let those moments happen . Thanks

Girl you are very encouraging about no worries about if you make mistakes It's uplifting,thank you, Oh an your saying softly when painting certain things softly, softly, softly staid in my head in my other paintings, I'm really new to painting on canvas I painted on wood for years an really liked it but I like this so much better. So bless you an thank you again for that soft voice of softly softly when blending or just painting.

It is good to see you back, Jane. I am sooooo looking forward to the oil painting videos. I have been doing acrylics and want to try my hand in oils. In fact, I bought some oil paints, now I need to know how to use them. lol. I’m 67 so I’m not looking to be a famous painter, I just want to have some fun with painting in oils because I do like the fact that it will give me more time and not to have rush before the paint dries. What you are planing to do is exactly what I’ve been looking for!

So glad you are back Jane! I’m really looking forward to seeing what you do with oils. Hi Jane Thank you for this tutorial Its GREAT! I learned alot. Is liquitex Red oxide similar to burnt sienna and PR 101?
@PaintingwithJane2 жыл бұрын
No, it's opaque. It's the PR101 pigment, but it's not transparent. In Liquitex, look for Transparent Burnt Sienna.

Hi Jane! I love your soothing voice! What is your take on retardant versus matte medium to gain some time to work with acrylic paint?
@PaintingwithJane2 жыл бұрын
I find retarders to be sticky. But also, I'm more interested in the transparency that the matte medium offers and less interested in the extended drying time. It's really a very small amount of extra drying time anyway.
@anitaclancy9662 Жыл бұрын
When blending with the oil paint can I use acrylic with matte medium so the paint stays wet long enough to do the blending like the oil. I am not a good blender! thanks Jane.

Oil blending is great, but the difficulty comes when applying paint over that beautiful blended background. I've been oil painting for 10 years and I get frustrated watching videos of people painting exquisite detail alla prima because I just make mud even if I keep my layers thin.
@PaintingwithJane2 жыл бұрын
There's for sure a balance there where mud can easily be made. For me, the trick is using a delicate brush and thinning the paint down with solvet. Even still, though, you want to be sure not to fiddle with it too much. If it's a bit of a larger area (larger than a liner brush is wide), I find it's easier to wipe the paint out before applying the details. It also has to do with the thickness of the pain. If your initial layer is quite thick, you're gonna have a heck of a time getting delicate details on there no matter what you do. The trick is to keep the background thin. Like Bill Alexander (the original Bob Ross) use to always say, "thicker paint sticks to the thinner paint."
@t0raneko2 жыл бұрын
@@PaintingwithJane Yes, all that and more. I regularly fall out of love with oils for that reason, even though they're my preferred medium. I feel my skills regressing from time to time and have to switch to acrylics if I want to ever get anything finished.
@PaintingwithJane2 жыл бұрын
I know how that is! I'm actually in the exact same though exact opposite situation, lol. I'm painting in oils more because I feel like I'm lacking something in my acrylic game, lol.
